We go to Panera very often as a family and its one of our go to places. Their menu changes and on this particular day, I ordered a different pick two than the usual. I ordered the combo of corn chowder and steak sandwich. The soup was not particularly hot and the sandwich was very light on steak. It was like having mainly toasted bread. Now I do believe this was a one off and this is not their normal service or food quality and this one experience doesn't mean I won't be going here again but it was disappointing to say the least. All the tables are dirty entering the restaurant. If you're dining in you must clean up the previous customers mess. I'm sure if people cleaned up after themselves they wouldn't have this issue but I'm also sure having clean tables for incoming customers is part of their job. I've been here on a few separate occasions during different parts of the day and it's always the same no matter the shift. Employees should wipe off seats and tables regularly. I usually come here every morning with my dogs to get my morning coffee through drive thru. Sometimes the wait is a little long due to them needing to make the food for every customer which is absolutely fine. Today I had exceptional service from a staff member named Brooklyn. I have to say, Panera is one of my favorite quick and easy chain restaurants. I really like their food, everything is fast, and they do awesome catering. I use them for catering a lot for both breakfast and lunch for my office. They are super easy to order from online, with lots of great options and reasonable prices! I highly recommend the breakfast sandwiches and egg souffles for breakfast. Delivery is always on time, and someone calls me the day before the delivery to check and make sure everything is set. This puts my mind at ease. I also eat at this Panera quite often when I'm in the area shopping. Service is quick (cashiers aren't always the best, but no big deal) and I love their soup and salad options. Try their butternut squash soup--it's delicious! I also love the bag of chips (or apple or baguette but come on who would pass up kettle chips) and love dipping them in my soup. They have unique and delicious tea, juice, and other drink options. This new stand alone Panera has been around for a few years now I guess. I went to the old one bc it was right next to the swim school and kids like bagels. End of story. I didnt go to the new one for a long time, bc Panera is kind of $$ for what you get. In the past few months I've had several get togethers here...and I'm now a fan. This location is great for a morning meeting! (probably afternoon too) It's a great place to linger. There are areas with good sun light. There are areas with a bit of privacy. It's clean. It's big. I like being able to drink as much coffee as I want out of a real mug. The breakfast sandwiches are good. But Ordering. Is. So. Slow. I should just get used to the d@%$ kiosks, but I like to special order my sandwich (just no cheese, nothing too fancy) It seems like they never have more than one person trained to do registers, even if other people are just wandering around behind the counter fussing with nothing. Even if the person at the beginning of the line is ordering a million things for a teacher breakfast and doesnt know what she is doing, a second staff member will not open a register. Okay, normally I would give three stars as the food has always been decent, but my husband and I had such a bad experience here I just have to give it two stars. We came on our lunch break, and there was a group of four in front of us. Right after we came in four or five more people came in. They had a trainee on the register with a trainer and were struggling to ring the first people up. My husband and I noticed several other workers waking around the lobby, filling coffee pots and cleaning even though the line was growing rapidly.. We waited close to 5 minutes as the people ahead of us all took turns asking about different things and paying one by one. Finally another worker started to set up another register and a few minutes later we were able to order. However, this cashier took a very long time and after already waiting for one cashier we really just wanted to order, get our food and leave. We had to repeat what we wanted twice and it took several more minutes for him to ring us up and allow us to pay. Two people that had been in line ended up leaving because it was taking that long, we almost left as well as we only get 30 minutes for lunch. Our order was correct, though the mac and cheese was not creamy or hot and my sandwich wasn't put together nicely, it tasted okay. We had decent service and food here before but this experience was so off putting we will not be returning to this location. The last couple times I have tried, online ordering asap neither for curbside or coming in is available at this location. Seems odd during a global pandemic they aren't trying to minimize traffic through their space. They have a drive through, I don't understand why they wouldn't allow for online ordering to pick up in drive through either. I generally really like Panera's food, but I've had mixed results and service at this one. There has been a really crabby employee with a short temper (I think manager) who has barked at me and I have heard her do similar to other customers when trying to ask a question or get a correction on their order. Panera, is Panera, is Panera, right? Wrong. This particular location is insanely busy - seemingly all the time - slow service from start to finish every time I have ever been here. For the business luncher, this is a big problem, and I have, on more than one occasion, had to cram food down my throat as fast as possible, can't be late getting back to work after all. I cannot say enough good things about their food though, everything on the menu is delicious and has something for everyone, even the picky eater. They also get a big plus from me for listing calories right on the menu. Warning for you folks dining here, the 'back door' by the soda machine locks when you exit...so don't try to get back in through there, you can't. I used to use that door all the time to get refills when you sit on the indoor patio, now you have to go all the way around, through the crowds of people. A plus for this location is the availability of several stores, it is a mall after all. So if you are a woman (or man) of leisure, spend some time shopping after eating. I definitely love Panera and still frequent this one, but just allow yourself more time, or take your food to-go. So Panera, while you have my heart and would get a 5 star rating - this particular location is knocked down to only 3 stars purely because its so busy....which could also be seen as a positive. Customer Service can't get any worse! There were 3 of us on a Sunday morning. We all ordered a scrambled egg on a bagel. We waited 15 minutes before we checked on our order. We stood waiting and ignored for another 10 minutes while the 6-7 employees were loading bags for a 'big order' When we finally got our order with no apologies it was wrong. This last time I mixed it up with the pick two and instead of my Mac and cheese got clam chowder soup which I didn't order-they kindly gave me my Mac and cheese when I went back and a refund. Standard Panera fare which is not as good as it was a couple of years ago. Today I opted for a pick two with half a sandwich and soup. I don't know if they store the bowls outside in the sub zero temperatures but the soup was not even hot. If you opt for one of their preconfigured panini sandwiches you have to live with the full ingredients as they are pre-made. This location in particular is over-run with mommies with young kids, largely due to the swim school across the mall hallway. Your best bet if you want to avoid some of the cacophony from the kids you should seek shelter behind the divider near the exterior entrance. Ok so normally I love Panera, it's a special treat for me, but this location has gotten my order wrong so many times. I've had to swear it off. Worse the staff are actually super nice and try to help every time and yet somehow things get worse. For example, I ordered some bagels ahead of time with some cream cheese and pasta for dinner. Well, they lost part of my order and messed up the bagels. The dude was new but no one else was really working so he did everything he could to help, even gave me a free pastry. I just want to apologize to the young cashiers who I interrupted social time to order food for my kids and I last night. Yes, I noticed there are self service ordering kiosks, but I was in a rush to get my son to his speech therapy appointment and didn't feel like fidgeting with it. Maybe if I hadn't interrupted you, you'd have said hello and thank you like a polite customer service worker generally does, and you wouldn't have been in a rush to finish the order after every item and instead asked "anything else?" after each item. Pretty awkward when you assume I'm done ordering and I'm not. Now, I realize you're a privileged Edina teenager and your parents are probably just forcing you to have this job to bring you down a peg or two, but I genuinely am really sorry to have made you do some work and that I got a little short with you because you weren't doing a very good job. We did not get our order in the bag the next drive thru. Went inside to fix and we got our order and someone else's in the bag. We ordered an as listed breakfast sandwich, no customization, and that was wrong. We have ordered bagels and not all the bagels were what was ordered nor did they tell us in case they ran out. The other orders were simple mistakes, missing side item or just did not read the order for the customizations. This location just cannot get their act together.
