Today, as Merced reached a new high of active COVID -19 cases, I was shocked and a little pissed that Panera would not allow us (65 years+) to use the drive-thru, the app, the website, or order curbside pick-up vía phone because...a manager had to "verify" our coupon. We were told we could only use the coupon if we came inside the restaurant to place an order (requiring a wait inside the building with unmasked patrons). We were also told it could not be used in the drive-thru. The cashier impatiently stated the coupon was intended for Fresno patrons, not Merced. Then she blamed the mix-up on "corporate." She seemed exasperated that I was asking for a minimal contact interaction, and the restaurant seemed to be using tactics to discourage the use of this generous coupon (BOGO) by making ordering as difficult as possible. Tsk, tsk. Customer Service = 0/5 Give a Darn Factor = 0/5 Prices = 2/5 (Overpriced for the quality) Food = Be careful what you order. Currently being on the road and going to a new location with my boyfriend, we were tired and out because we had to use the restroom as well as we are very parched and hungry we arrive to the Panera bread located in this area in a little bit hesitant just due to not being locals, Carmen was very helpful and very sweet and made sure that we were spending the right amount of money and we were not overspending due to she knew that we were travelers. Lazy employees are not keeping track of items when made with sell by date or the company just resells hard ass bagels. This is disappointing honestly. My daughter and I went into Merced to shop. We live in a tiny town an hour away that has no shopping facilities. At about noon, we selected Panera as our place to have lunch. This was the sorriest time and place for us. After standing in line to order a simple bowl of soup and a sandwich, drinks and a sweet roll, we were given a receipt for our $30.plus lunch bill. We were directed to sit and that we would be called when our meal was ready. Over an hour of waiting, my daughter went to inquire about the lengthy wait. She was told it would be up next. I was in town for 3 weeks taking care of my mom after surgery and working remotely and days and nights were super busy for me. But most mornings I'd be there right at opening to grab my coffee to start my day. The staff always helped me start my day off with a smile. Everyone in the morning were always so happy, friendly and just amazing. Coffee was always hot, ready and tasted perfect. After a long day and night sometimes I just really appreciated all the warm smiles and kindness all the staff showed me every morning I came in. Very friendly staff and the orders are always accurate. It's not cheap but the ingredients have always been fresh and tasty. One of the few places we've been in the past couple months that is consistently on point and satisfying. I'm not sure why others have had a bad experience or if they even bothered to ask to have their items remade, but it seems like the staff would be happy to remake your order if you are not satisfied with it. I just came from Panera Merced.I ordered a buffalo chicke melt, l opened the sandwich. It was all bread with a very small amount chicken, and a little bit of sauce. What a disappointment.They gave me a grilled cheese sandwich, I didn't even order. It was inedible. The bread want even toasted, and the cheese was all dried out.I got the broccoli cheese soup, and that was good, but doesn't make up for the whole experience. They charged me 19 dollars, and never gave me a receipt.II guess they charged me for the grilled cheese, I never ordered. It's Panera, you know what you're going to get with the food. Everywhere has the same menu, for the same (overpriced--but yummy) food. This location however, is on a corner right next to Chipotle. I came here a few times before ordered sandwiches, soups, drinks and most importantly bagels and tubs of cream cheese. My 2 last visit before today I received a bad tub of cream cheese that's watery. The seal was broken. When I called in the manager said she would replaced my half dozen bagels and a tub of honey walnut spread. I'm not a fan of their dark roast, but if that is your jam - go crazy there. Service is preached. Prices are reasonable. The Merced Location is small relative to a few I've been in. I like this place. I always buy beagles here and honestly is the only place that I get my beagles from. There Very yummy . I love getting the beagles. My husband likes it as well. There so delicious as well. Every time I go here customer service is always perfect. There so much Friendly people working here. I enjoy going here. I would totally recommend the beagles here. Went thru drive thru to get it since I had my baby in the car and they told me they can't give onlines thru the drive thru and to pull to the front of the restaurant. The Internet can sometimes be weak and slow so you'd better have a phone or tablet to use as a " personal hotspot" along with a good cellular plan. My wife and I love the seasonal salads and the hot paninis. Soups are great during the cold season so they say but we eat them year round! So glad to finally have a Panera in town! Anyway got food to go from here and do glad it was prepared fast. I got the Mediterranean veggie, broccoli and cheddar soup, and low fat mango smoothie. They also offered a pastry for 99 cents but I refused. Sandwich was great and I'm so glad I don't have to go to Turlock or some other city just to eat the Mediterranean veggie lol. Had the smoothie for the first and that was great too. The soup tasted really good, but I thought a bit on the watery side.
