My sisters house had a leak in the basement, and surprise surprise it leaked on the only spot I had my skis outside the bag. I usually leave them at her place as it's right next to Big Snow. Incredibly rude and insulting employees at this business. I'm looking to buy a new pair of ski boots and made the trip to Bay Ridge because I heard good things about this shop. Once I was there an employee explained they charge $100 for a bootfitting unless you commit to buying the boots that day. I decided I wasn't ready to buy on the spot and felt the price for fitting was a bit high, so I thanked him for the information and went to browse some other ski gear at the shop. The employee must have thought I'd left the store already, because a short while later I heard him insulting me to another employee. Saying something along the lines of "This chump just came in expecting a free bootfitting without buying anything! What an idiot!" I stepped out from behind the rack of ski jackets I'd been browsing and made eye contact with him, he glanced back in shock and flashed me a thumbs up and a guilty frozen smile. Needless to say I immediately left and won't be returning. Look, I understand the reasoning behind having the $100 policy (though it would be nice if that info was readily available on their website). I also understand that for retail employees talking trash about customers is a time-honored way for passing time and blowing off steam. All that being said, you should really make sure that your prospective customers are out of earshot before you start loudly insulting them. read more

I needed new ski boots and was a bit hesitant to trust a shop in the city, but Panda was incredible. I went around 1pm on a Friday in mid-January and was helped almost immediately. I was fitted by Duke and had a really wonderful time chatting with him as he took various measurements of my feet, ankles, and calves; talked me through two different boot options and why he chose them for me; and fit the boots to me, which included heat molding them. I skied in them this past weekend and they felt better than any boots I've ever worn. I'm so grateful to Duke and would absolutely recommend him again and again. Just know that you might be there for a couple of hours, since they take such meticulous care to find the right fit. And be sure to bring knee-high socks for yourself! After making the 65-minute trek to Bay Ridge, I can confidently say that Panda Sports deserves its unique status. The entire team is incredibly knowledgeable about the products they sell and passionate about their work. They maintain the classic family ski shop vibe found in New England ski towns, but with a uniquely Brooklyn personality. I had the pleasure of working with Duke. I brought in a pair of boots for retrofitting that were a full size too small. We had a straightforward conversation about the necessary augmentations for the boots and discussed the cost-to-success ratio. After two days of work, despite the odds not being in my favor, Duke managed to make enough room in my boot for a perfect fit (albeit a little snug, but that's to be expected). During those two days, it became clear to me that for the team at Panda Sports, this kind of work is a craft. This is a refreshing change from typical employees who are just working a job to sell you a product they aren't confident in. For as long as I stay in the city, wherever in the city that may be, when I need ski equipment, I will make that trek again. Panda Sport is the BEST! Great local family shop. I came here to purchase ski boots and rent skis for the winter. My partner and I have both been coming here for multiple seasons and are always super pleased with the care and customer service we get. Duke gave me the most thoughtful recommendation for ski boots and ski rentals. With my old boots, I had been having issues with bruising and fatigue. Duke listened to my concerns and took many measurements of my foot, arch, ankle, leg, stance, and even iliac crest (hip distance) to get the perfect recommendation for me, and to make sure it fit perfectly. He gave me tips on how to break them in and get the best experience with my new equipment. Duke has been doing this for decades, and it really shows through his expertise. Duke also helped me get excellent skis for my skiing style, height, build, etc. We also talked about my skiing style to make sure my bindings were the right setting. The tune up and binding adjustment was done right on the spot, and only took 10 minutes. Phenomenal. The ski rentals also come with poles, which is a nice plus! The owners are a local married couple, who told me they opened their store 35 years ago, and that skiing and snowboarding are their bread and butter, their main passions. They're frequently on site, and it's nice to see that they take a lot of pride in both their store and their customers' experiences. Overall I've always had a stellar experience here at Panda Sport. Equal price compared to shops in Manhattan but much bigger and better selection and will adjust boots to get perfect fit. Very good selection skis also. Lots of people also rented and they seemed happy with choices. I took off 1 star only because I bought a pair of new boots but not new skis. Was promised new boots would fit with 6 year old skis/bindings. But when I brought skis to reset bindings, was informed that I needed to get new bindings as old ones would not work with new boots. I went to Panda Sport to get fitted in my first pair of owned ski boots as an adult after a multi-year break from skiing. Robert, the owner, spent something like 3 hours with me to fit boots. He started with my ability level, trail preference, flex, and taking several measurements of my feet. I then tried on several pairs, finding the pair that worked best for me out of the box. Thereafter, he made tons of adjustments and heated/molded the liner to get the boot to fit like a glove (with no pain). After 15 days so far on the slopes this year, and a short break-in period of a few days, these are my favorite boots by far and have totally contributed to a rapid improvement in my skiing as I can feel and control the skis in a way I hadn't experienced before. Really impressed and recommend Panda Sport for anyone in the NYC area.. the 1hr+ subway ride from Manhattan is well worth it!! Thanks again read more

Initially they answered my questions via phone, which made it easy showing up in person already knowing what I wanted, and then upon visiting they *still* managed to find ways to improve my selection beyond original expectations. I had read great reviews about this place so I was excited to visit it in person. We arrived at about 2:30pm and the place was packed. The store was clearly busy and I knew I had a couple questions I wanted to ask about skis and equipment. I was fairly certain I was going to buy a set today, but I told them I was just looking. Seeing that the store was packed I made an appointment to come back at 4:00pm so I could have all my questions answered. Arriving back at the store the lady with the clipboard confirmed I wasn't buying anything then set me up with a ski tech to quickly answer my questions. This is the first frustrating part, because I had waited over over an hour to have an appointment. Next, the ski tech clearly wasn't interested in helping me. I asked about skis, boots, helmets and everything was a one or two word answer. At the end of the day I didn't buy anything because honestly I didn't feel like they took the time to help me even after setting up an appointment. I busted up my board pretty badly and after taking it to a few VT repair shops that "didn't want to touch it" or suggested that I scrap it, I decided to get another opinion locally in the city. I heard great things about Panda and finally made the schlepp down to Bay Ridge. This place was well worth the visit not only for the selection, but also the friendly, family-run staff. Who knew that authentic South Brooklynites could be so knowledgable and passionate about the mountains? The main repair guy had a great sense of humor, assured me that my board was very fixable, and even backed it up with pictures of his work over 25 years. Given that I needed a quick turnaround, I wasn't able to get a comprehensive fix but the staff offered to throw some p-tex on it to last me until the rest of the season until I had more time to come back. I bought new skis online with a trip planned to Park City 5 days later. No ski shop in Manhattan was able to sell me and mount my bindings with less than a 3-4 week wait time. I called Panda and they assured me they could get it done that day when I expressed the urgency of the situation. They have technicians on site when all those other stores like REI send their skis out to get serviced. I took the subway in from manhattan and they mounted my bindings in less than a hour. It was well worth the trip. I also bought my boots from Panda and they are boot fitting experts. I would HIGHLY recommend them for all your ski needs. I immediately came to Panda Sport after finding out they mounted skis. I have no other place to compare this to because it's my first pair of skis, but I do think they did a very good job with it. The total was a little less than $100. I walked into the store and someone (Frank?) immediately came to assist me. He asked when I needed them by and I said tomorrow morning. Of course they got it done that's why they get five stars (along with many other factors I did and will mention in this review)! Frank was very friendly and patient! He helped me into my first boot and later called Danny to inform me about the process. Danny helped me into my second boot while letting me know how it should feel when I lean forward and back. It was a snug fit so that was perfect. Everything took approximately 30 minutes. I bought my skis, boots and bindings online and apparently the bindings are a little big for me (I'm rather petite). Anyways, obviously it's not their fault, and they did the best they could with the adjustments. Danny did not mount my skis, an older man did, but he explained what was done to my skis and answered questions I had. I totally recommend Panda Sport for your new skis or if you need to touch-up on it! read more
