My daughter had heard great things about this place, I tried to talk her out of it but she insisted and I found out that the food and the CS is still not, quite, right. When we walked in tonight 12.13.12, the restaurant was fairly busy, most folks seemed to be winding down and we stood there for a few minutes looking for an empty table. When we were finally seated, the older, really miserable looking server who seems to be a manager of sorts, got two menus and SLAPPED THEM ON THE TABLE, without looking at us, greeting us or telling us to go to hell. She seemed to have a serious bitter stick up her A$$ that only fell out when a man walked in or when she was waiting on the couple of tables full of men. The other two young girls were much, much nicer but that older woman, is a piece of work...and not in a good way. We ordered two speciality roles, the rice was cold in both and both roles were covered in two ribbons of a white, mayonaise based sauce and a sweet, hoisin type of sauce, very strange. I also ordered a salmon skin hand role but the entire thing was ruined because it also contained some sort of mayo base dressing inside the rice. We ordered a chicken teriyaki bowl and thank God the rice was hot, the veggies were barely cooked so they were crunchy and tasty. The chicken chunks were decent but again, the entire bowl was covered with some sort of sweetish, hoisin style sauce. The best part of the meal was the chicken and soba noodles we ordered for the kids. The noodles were absolutely legit and that would be the first thing I would recommend to anyone. This food is strictly Americanized 'sushi' and 'Chinese' food, bland, overly sweetened and under seasoned and def not worth the money you will spend. Drive to City Heights or Kearny Mesa if you want legit sushi or Chinese food. read more

Quite surprised at the quality of sashimi/sushi here especially during happy hour... for $1 you get 1 piece of nigiri sushi!! Sometimes you get what you pay for but in this case, you get a little more than what you pay for. it's in no way is this the "best sushi" as a few yelpers have claimed but a great "bang for the literal buck"! If you want "the best", I highly recommend Sushi Ota in downtown San Diego. Other things we tried: - fried gyoza (very good), - hot and sour soup (a bit too thick.... average to below average) - miso soup (good) - california roll (wifey says it was pretty good) - egg fried rice (just blah... below average) Overall this is definitely a come back spot whenever we're in this area. I used to live in Alpine and would come here quite often. I really loved the sushi rolls and they had an amazing deal on lunch specials. (Like orange chicken for $5.95 and it was delicious) Well I guess all things must come to an end. Tonight while visiting a friend in Alpine I picked up an Alpine Roll and a Sexy Roll to go.. total $25.86... When I arrived home 30min or so later the alpine rolls rice was crunchy like a cheap grocery store sushi roll rice has. Hard to explain. Very disappointed. read more

We've been coming here for several years now and things are always great. The food (both Chinese and Japanese) is invariably excellent. Overall wonderful service, it was really busy but they managed to seat my party of 8 within 15minutes and service was awesomethey brought out the food rather quickly ,the food was delicious ! Panda machi was a pleasant surprise. Worth the drive up to alpine I was very happy with the amount of food the amount of choices and how super friendly and attentive the waitresses were there. Each sushi dish that came out looks like a work of art and was super tasty the bento boxes were incredible I really like the kung pao chicken it definitely gave you enought to make you happy. I found the food to be exceptionally good on both the Japanese side and the Chinese side and it was no wonder that there was a line out the door on a Thursday night. Panda Machi was far from the best sushi I ever had, but I have to say that I was extremely surprised that it was as good as it was, being in Alpine. Rolls are extremely inexpensive (just a few bucks per item) and we were able to stuff ourselves silly on totally decent sushi on the cheap. To be frank, the dining room was a little shabby, but not too offputting. She always goes out of her way to make sure everyone is pleased. I almost always order the Seared Ahi Roll. I usually eat pretty healthy, but it satisfies my spicy mayo and eel sauce cravings. I like to go for happy hour to get $1 nigiri. That's right, ONE DOLLAR NIGIRI. At other restaurants I've paid up to $9 dollars for a two piece nigiri, not here! Their fish is always fresh and you always get a healthy portion. The lunch specials are out of this world as well. You get soup, choice of rice, salad, cream cheese wonton, egg roll, and your choice of entree for around $5!!! If your feeling experimental, have Trinity whip you up a Chef's Roll. Tell her what you like, and she will ALWAYS leave you satisfied. Gets busy in there around dinner time, but is worth the wait every time. Five stars all the way. We've been getting take out orders from this restaurant for many years. They don't always get the orders perfect, but the customer service is good and the food is pretty good as well. I'm very picky about my Chinese food because as a former New Yorker, I'm used to the best tasting and best quality Chinese food. Best sushi I've had in the San Diego area and same goes for the Thai iced tea (: the customer service is on point every time we come here, which is usually once a week. Ahi roll and surf-n-turf roll are AMAZING. If you like nigiri, go for the hamachi or seared ahi. I wish there was a Panda Machi closer to SD so I could go there even when I'm not in Alpine. Although the food was ok at best their desire to be as inflexible as possible really soured my family's experience. All my kid wanted was some miso soup, and i wanted him to eat some kind of vegetable. Finally he agreed to eat the special machi panda bento box (he really wanted that soup). When we ordered we asked if they could include the soup for my kid (to be kind) but they said they wouldn't do it, it was only for dine in orders. Now i could totally understand this if dine-in was an option (Covid-19), but seeing as it wasn't, it just kind of seemed like a way for them to short expenditures (while also not offsetting the price by the way) and pass the bill to the customer.
