First night in Hilo looking for dinner options- the area we're staying in had little options. Mostly fast food and strip mall restaurants (by Walmart) that were underwhelming for the price. Food here is EXPENSIVE! Stumbled upon Panda Express- you can't go wrong. This location is across from a KFC.... Plenty of staff, very organized to handle the line of waiting customers. The food was fresh and they were constantly preparing everything fresh to order. I ordered the PLATE which comes with 2 entrees and 2 sides. I chose the honey walnut shrimp, the chow mein noodles and I doubled up on the fresh greens which was broccoli and cabbage. That chow mein was SO flavorful! Before we leave, I'm going back for more. I ordered two large sides of chow FUN and I got two orders of chow MEIN. I am pissed and want my money back.

Horrible. Watching them handle drive thru. Quickly doing online orders as I stand in line for 30 minutes and wait for management t9 figure out what to do. I asked thr manager why we are all standing around and she blew me off. What a perfect example of what to expect in Hilo. Rude manaer, slow staff that just does not care and they show it. Went to drive thru and got my food right away. Line is still at the door inside. Owners should be embarrassed. It should not get the Panada name. It's just another toilet bowl next to home depot. So sad this is what to expect from here. Manager and staff should all get replaced but this is the best Hilo has to offer. Another disappointment from Panda on Makala st in Hilo, used the phone app to order arrived at the time it said and still had to wait 10 minutes while they prepared one of the items ordered. the rest of the order was complete and sitting on a counter cooling down for at least 10 minutes if not longer. when I asked if they guarantee that all the food is at the correct serving temperature they made excuses and mocked me as I left. read more

Went for lunch. Servers seem to give drive through priority, which explained the long and slow moving line. Food, however, is consistently good at this Panda. Terrible customer service. Do not order online. If you need to eat here, go through the drive thru. Placed an online order and received confirmation that it would be ready by a certain time. Went through the drive-thru about 15 minutes after the confirmed p/u time to p/u my order and was told my order was still being worked on and was asked to park. I waited over a 1/2 an hour. I called twice and no one bothered to answer the phone. I walked to the front entrance of the door that was locked to customers. After several loud knocks on the door, I was greeted by an employee who's shift was about to end or is ready to quit. I told her that I've been waiting in my car for over a 1/2 hour for my order. She shut the door and from the outside I could see her looking around the dining area confused and walked over to a bag that was sitting on a table. She opened the door and handed the bag to me. She then told me that it was waiting there for a long time. I repeated what she said and she replied: "no, not a long time, maybe 5 minutes". Not only did this employee have poor customer service skills, she chose to lie instead of offering a logical explanation. Which is really disappointing and very telling of the type of the work ethic that the manager(s) allow. Either suspend online ordering if the workers are overworked and overwhelmed, or try to manage customers orders better. Customer service is grumpy, and lacking any communication. I know it is hard to get help these days, but when you do hire someone try training them to have a basic understanding of being nice. This is the second time I tried them in the last 3 months. Horribly greasy and overly salty food! The flavor was bland, and the oil tasted like it was very old. I wish I could say that it was different than 3 months ago, but this time was just as bad if not slightly worse in all accounts. I am assuming the management here is trying to cut corners by giving smaller portions and in stead of giving more chicken and meat in their dishes, it's a lot more noodles and thick sauce that is way too sweet for the chicken Kung pao or the General's Chicken was way too much sauce and breading with SMALL amounts of meat. This is the highest priced fast food in Hilo and they give you less. I guess they're the McDonald's of Chinese fast food? So they rely on advertising to being people in, and Not the quality of food. No stars if I could... I went in tonight and ordered 7 2 choice plates. The lady says what's the first plate? I said all noodles and orange chicken 2x. I see there's no Orange chicken in the tray and when I look up she's on the fourth plate of all noodles. I asked are those mine? She said yes, i told her can I get the rest all rice? I wanted half/half but since she already made 4 all noodles I wanted 3 all rice and I would half/half it at home. Another girl comes and takes over entrees and then a third rings me up. I pay for my food, wait a little while for a few entrees and leave. I drive all the way back to Pahoa and When I get home I have 6 plates all noodles and only 1 plate all rice. My wife calls them to explain what happened and the lady is all uh huh, yeah, I understand. Then she tells my wife she doesn't understand why my wife is grumbling, we only spent $100 there. I used to eat there at least twice a month spending $100 each go, clearly that amount is no longer enough for them to make sure I get what paid for, so, I will be giving my money to some other establishment who WILL value $100 order. I go here more than I'd care to admit. Maybe to the point where im starting to get sick of it! It's good food at a decent price. Usually there isnt a long wait unless you choose that time of the day when all of Hilo decides they want panda also. I love the honey walnut shrimp here and usually get two servings of it even though it costs a little extra. Dont forget to fill out your receipt survey for that free entree! This is probably my favorite place to go when im tired from a long day and just want something to take home and chow down on before I pass out. I'm always craving pandas.. I'm hooked esp. since it's super convenient for me. I always order the one choice orange chicken with half chow mein and half steamed veggies. I love how there chili hot sauce packets are actually spicy. Only down side about pandas is that their drive thru takes forevers!
