We were hesitant in getting food to go after reading the reviews. The reviews were correct and the food is not that good. The Orange Chicken was actually crunchy and lacked in flavor. The kung Pao Chicken was Kung Pao Squash with only 3 tiny minuscule pieces of chicken to be found and the Biejing Beef was tough and lacking in flavor. The inside of the restaurant was nice but the product was not. Staff were not that pleasant and service lacked. This is a 2 star restaurant. We will not return. read more

We went at around 12:30 on Sunday afternoon. I guess we were after the rush so some of the foods were low so we waited for them to be available (5-10 minutes). Very bad experience... came in at 10 30am with my three girls. At first the male behind the counter greeted us with a smile and came to help. The girl walked up yo him and whispered something to him then he started serving out kids meals with chow mein. Passed the plates to her and she brought everything back and took chow mein out of each plate. At this point the male cashier stepped back and let her finish. This whole time she didn't even look at me or smile once. Were used to going to slo or paso and the portions here are way smaller than that. We were in the mood for Chinese food, and since we received a BOGO offer in the mail we decided to head to Panda Express. As food is now only available for take-away, we did not use their dining room facility, but the interior looks very clean and inviting. Approaching the restaurant, we saw there was a line of people as they were adhering to social distancing of 6 feet between each party. The line moved relatively quickly as we made our way to the ordering station, which had a container of hand sanitizer available prior to ordering. All employees were wearing face coverings, and were very friendly. We selected their bowls of Honey Walnut Shrimp with white rice, and Kung Pao Chicken with fried rice. The Honey Walnut Shrimp was good tasting with a honey sauce coating and good-size firm tempura-battered shrimp. There were only a few glazed walnuts, which was disappointing. Our selection of Kung Pao Chicken is a Szechwan-inspired dish with chicken, peanuts and vegetables, finished with chili peppers. It was a very spicy dish with a good amount of zucchini and tomatoes, as well as a generous supply of chicken. The fried rice was fresh, plump & filled with peas, carrots, green onions & egg. We finished off with fortune cookies as our guilt-free "dessert". Their offerings of cuisine were what one would expect to receive from an American Chinese fast-food chain restaurant. Typical Panda Express food. Has the flavor but not authentic Chinese food. It was 4:15 pm Thursday and only a couple ahead of me 1 came in beside me. The place looked clean. Looking over the steam tables I wanted something to hold me over before making dinner after shopping at Vons. The appetizers on most pans were being made, though empty so that was out. Didn't want an entree and again some pans out or low. Server called out to cooks what was needed and another came and replaced with fresh. Leftovers were put on top of fresh. No waste, good, though hope the person who ordered these received half and half or rather a quarter and 3 quarters . I ordered the medium Chow Mein. My booth was not clean though I am not too anal. Couple of rice on table and bench. A quick wipe, all good. The line was starting as it was getting close to 5 pm. Finished, cleared my table. Noticed in the beginning the first trash container was full. The exit trash container full also. Having been in the Restaurant business for over 30 years I notice the tiniest details. Not one employee came out in the 35 minutes I was there to oversee the overall presentation. Love to have been a Food Critic but I have to many dislikes. The open hours seem more like "guidelines" than business practices. I often try to go on Sunday evenings (they close at 8:00) but experience shows that if you arrive much past 7:30 there's no food available. Many times I've left empty-handed. This evening on Wednesday, (1/11/11) I went to the Atascadero Panda Express. The food service was so bad I would have given the evening management team a zero, but I can only rate them a 1. I had ordered my family meal on line and was suppose to be able to pick it up by 7:20am. When I arrived the crew serving and the manager totally ignored me. I had to approach them which I did (3) different times. They acted like I was invisible. The cook finally helped me even though he was swamped and very busy in the back. Adam the cook was the only crew member working. The rest of the other (5) member crew looked like they could careless about getting my order to me and did not appear to be working either. Finally, after 20 plus minutes I got my order. The cook Adam deserves a (5) star and the food was good. The rest of the crew unfortunately deserves this horrible review. The District Manager of this Panda Express needs to make some serious changes on this Wednesday evening crew that worked tonight. This particular crew lacks proper customer service and really needs an over haul. Until, the upper management makes some very necessary changes here. I probably won't be back anytime soon. The second time I went on a weekend at 7pm the wait was long, the staff were inconsistent ( filing online orders before in person) and the food was okay. But I will say I appreciate the adherence to protective measures, 2 customers walked in without masks and staff asked them to return with masks. I'm surprised their rating isn't higher. I've been regularly eating my lunch there for at least a year. The staff is always friendly and the food is always fresh. Like other businesses in the area, their staff is sometimes spread thin. People need to be patient. They always get food out within a few minutes when it's not available when you come in.
