An absolute gem in North City! From the moment you walk in, you can tell that every detail has been…read morethoughtfully crafted. The food is beautifully presented and tastes even better. We had the chicken pesto panini, ham and cheese sandwich, mushroom quiche, and blueberry macarons everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with exceptional care and quality ingredients. What made the experience even more special was how warm and personal Chef Christophe and his wife were in greeting their guests. I had a fun chat with Chef Christophe, and it instantly made the space feel less like a bakery and more like the kind of neighborhood café you can't wait to return to. That genuine hospitality, paired with such incredible craftsmanship, is a rare combination. San Marcos is incredibly lucky to have a patisserie of this caliber right in our backyard. Already looking forward to my next visit!

I wanted to love this little bakery but I will need to settle for "like" for now…read more By noon on a Sunday, every single pastry and baked good, except for macarons, sandwiches, and one lonely peanut butter cookie, was gone. You snooze, you lose. I will make an effort to come far earlier some time to try out their good stuff. (We did buy the last cookie.) The chicken pesto sandwich was delicious. The bread was outstanding. It is a pricey $15 or so. The cookie had almost no flavor. That was a disappointment. We tried some iced coffee drinks and they were just average. AND they charged for adding half and half. I have never paid for cream in my coffee anywhere other than when I buy it in a carton in a grocery store. For a place which charges extremely high prices for everything, charging for cream is robbery. It is a small robbery but it is still a robbery. Starbucks doesn't charge for cream and neither does Denny's. Don't charge for cream. Come on. I don't like referring to other businesses in my reviews, but if you want coffee, do yourself a huge favor and get it from Necessity Coffee almost literally across the street. It is fantastic. And they don't charge for cream. I will return--early--to try the pastries.

Hands down the best pie I've ever had was from CA mountain bakery. I've never had boysenberry apple…read morepie (I never knew I liked boysenberry) but my friend wanted to try it so I ordered a frozen pie to go and we all loved it and agreed it's the best we've had. Even a frozen pie that I cooked at home was amazing, Of course when I was there to pick up the to go pie, we decided to try their breakfast sandwich and apple pie with cinnamon ice cream...everything was so good. Oh and I did order frozen pot pies to eat at home and I really enjoyed it as well. I know Julian may not be a place many of you thought of checking out but this place alone makes ir worth the drive. The small town of Julian is adorable and I highly recommend you go at some point. They are known for apple everything ~ cider, etc.,

I found my favorite pie shop…read more I heard that California Mountain Bakery is the best pie shop in California so me and one other person had to put it to the test. We made the drive out to grab one of their pies to bring back and try. I was impressed they had 8 different types of pies the day we came. The staff was really nice and answered all our questions. We ended up getting their Summerberry Apple pie which was an apple pie with all sorts of berries in it. It was absolutely insanely delicious. It was perfectly sweeten, had the perfect filling to crust ratio, and the crumble on top was heavenly. It was a hit with our friends back home and highly addicting. I recommend it. Besides their popular pies they also had cinnamon buns, cookies, sweet and savory pastries. I did also get a blueberry scone which was alright but I probably wouldn't get again. California Mountain Bakery also has a full food menu which carries items like sandwiches. The restaurant is pretty large. You order at the register and they'll call you when its ready. There's a whole dining area inside and out. I would most definitely be back and highly recommend them.
