My boyfriend's uncle told us to go here for brunch. They tried the machaco tortas, and I had the chicken tamalés. It's a small bakery on the corner with conchas, cake, other Mexican-baked goods, mini burritos, tortas, juices, and more. The strawberry roll cake slice was pretty tasty. It wasn't overly sweet and had the soft, pillowy texture I was expecting. There was another dessert that looked similar with the coconut shreds that I wished I could have sampled. At first, I was a little disappointed they only had 3 different flavors, but the pollo was still good. There was good meat to masa ratio. The tamalés were piping hot, and unfortunately, the second one came out really mushy. Still pretty good, but half of it just crumbled. The prices are reasonable. Strictly the Pan Dulce/Bolios. This was so fresh and delicious. A bit well done around the corners but in a good way! Crunchy on the outside and super soft on the inside. I don't like the unsafe location, it's on holt blvd and there's a lot of homeless, pan handlers, & creepy people passing by. I wouldn't go alone... The prices are pretty cheap too! The building is all white with red signage,located in a mini shopping center so I almost drove past it. Great prices, (all these for $7.00) selection and customer service. Cash only. Since there's a change shortage, try to have the exact amount.The staff was playing Spanish music & dancing. I definitely felt welcomed into a fun loving environment.They took pride in their work & loved what they do. I got a mollete and a torta de asada. Both were delicious but I wished that they added more beans to the mollete. The panaderia has a wide arrange of bread and pastries. They also sell tamale de elote (uchepos). When I walked in there the bread and coffee smelled so good. Give this place a try and the prices are pretty affordable. I found this place by driving. The location lot is fairly empty. I walked in there's a mixture of different smells which is hard to explained. I tried the chicken and pork tamales. They were inexpensive $1.75 each. But I was not too impressed with them. I feel like they were a little dry and dull of dough. I love their mexican bread, trust me when i moved out here i was looking for a good panaderia, and i did try several here in this city but this one tops all the rest! If you're looking for fresh 'bolillo' or mexican rolls this is the place to go. The best thing about this place is that they are cheap and they have specials throughout the week, their 'conchas' are yummy and so soft. It's better if you go early in the morning when they're bread comes right out of the oven, but they also get busy in the afternoon so they're constantly bringing out bread. And the service is great! Needed to find a tres leches cake and called Panaderia Cortez having no idea if they even had it. Called them and spoke to the owner who promised me a 10 1/2 outta 10 on their cake. The price was great and the customer service was awesome. The cake was amazing, authentic, and exactly what I was wanting. Couldn't have asked for a better customer experience and cake. This place was so bad I have to assume the previous raters were paid advertisements. I got there early, just after opening so I'd get fresh pan dulce. Imagine my disappointment when I looked and saw nothing close to resembling what's in the photos offered up by previous visitors. The selection was so poor I couldn't reasonably pick a dozen pieces of bread. Not wanting to make the trip a total loss I ordered one of the breakfast burritos previously mentioned. They are small, I don't have a problem with that, but they were mostly beans. I ordered two carne asada burritos and was unimpressed with the quality. This is one of the reasons why I loved living in Pomona. Hands-down, one of the best panaderías around. They have a good selection of pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread) and several bakery items. Additionally, they have tamales and a handful of other grab-and-go got food items, like tortas, burritos, and more. Their champurrado is pretty good too. The small shopping center where this place is located isn't exactly eye-catching, but the employees are extremely polite and make you feel welcome. Highly recommended! read more
