The head massage during the shampoo was lengthy and was wonderful :) I wish they had shown us a look book of the options before just diving into doing our hair. It wasn't until after my hair was washed that they asked what styles we wanted, and they just verbally explained the style options rather than showing us a picture. We all asked for loose waves. One sister was thrilled with her hair and thought it better than she could achieve herself (she has long, salon-colored hair, and her hair is coarse). My hair was flat (no-body) and looked not nearly as good as I can make my own hair look I'm about 40 minutes. My other sister's hair was flat (no waves as she'd requested) and it looked like it had air dried. Overall, we had a great experience from the customer service perspective, but our hair did not meet expectations for 2 out of 3 of us. It's a fun place to visit, but I likely won't be back.

We get there right on time and walk into an empty salon. We waited for a good 10+ minutes before the girls came back to the empty salon.. We let them know we had an appointment and they looked incredibly confused and told us we didn't. They called the owner and found out she forgot to schedule it... It doesn't end there. They very reluctantly squeezed just me in to do a trial. I told them we didn't have to if it was going to cause her to rush, but they insisted. I felt like the entire time we inconvenienced THEM. When she finished, it was pretty. Not exactly what I had in mind, it looked like she used too much powder and was a bit messy. Clearly rushed. But I'm nice so I didn't say much. Here's what really got me... after the treatment I received and the rushed hair, they proceeded to charge me 200 for the TRIAL. My hair started to fall down the moment I got in my car. It didn't even hold. I would never recommend this place. There was no apology, no discounted offer for the troubles. This was supposed to be special.. instead, I felt like I was an inconvenience to them. But they truly inconvenienced me (and my mother).

I have lived in Los Angeles and San Diego for the past 8 years, receiving color correction treatments for bleached out ruined hair, highlights, and balayage at high end salons in La Jolla and Santa Barbara. The peak of what I have spent on my hair should not have been in Wilmington, NC, and for bad hair at that! Yes, I have long hair. I have NEVER been charged anything close to $600 and even if I was okay with that price, I am not okay with it for the hair that I left with. My hair is fried, looks nothing like the photo that I showed her, has a bad cut, and has bad color. There are streaks of platinum mixed with deep brown, leaving me with all shades of human hair on my head. When I called the salon after getting over the initial shock of the $600 charge, Rachel couldn't give me a good explanation for how that price came to be. She said she charges by the hour, then she said by the individual service "she had to charge extra for the money piece in front". Then, she told me that she had to provide color correction and that is why it was so expensive. I color my roots with Wella at home. There was no color correction needed. She gave me a full highlight service with toning and it ended up frying my hair and looking not at all subtle. I feel like crying, looking back at how my hair was just a couple of days prior to going in and paying $600 to someone for this "service" is such an insult. I had a few experiences with the local salons that left me wanting and concerned that anyone knew what current hairstyles and colors were all about. I was getting very saddened that I would not find a quality salon that had the experience and current styles I was looking for. Luckily my sister-in-law suggested her hairdresser, Alicia B. at 1051 salon and spa out of Wilmington, North Carolina. My first visit with her was like heaven. She and her assistant were extraordinarily attentive and she totally got my vibe and what I was looking for. She is extremely talented and a lot of fun to talk to and I had a wonderful time. Such a good time in fact that I went back to the front desk to see if they had any openings for the spa and they fit me in for a facial. All in all, the day went great! Love my new hairstyle and love Alicia. Thank you 1051 salon and spa. You've given me a little taste of NYC which I was missing terribly. I look forward to my next cut!
