I had been going to Sage Salon for many years and never had a problem until I did. Lauren, the owner, was doing my hair and we were chatting about a neighbor of hers who had been causing her trouble. As she started to wash my hair, she proceeded to tell me that her neighbor was Black. Then she proceeded to say that she isn't racist, but there are some white people who are white trash, and there are some Black people are *n-words* (except she said the actual word). I was so shocked, so disgusted. I told her she cannot say that word to me and that was not ok!! She said she didn't mean to offend, but the damage is done and I know who she is now. Anyone who can freely use that word with a client at their place of business will not get any more money from me. read more

Amelia has her own place now, in Mayfaire. It's small, and one has to wait one's turn in the hallway. It's also a challenge to park. I think I prefer the larger salon experience. read more

I'm so thankful I found Lauren. She is so talented! She listens and exceeds my expectations every time. She knows exactly what she's doing with color- which is comforting for someone who likes to switch up color/tones seasonally. I ask for a natural look and that's precisely what she provides, with a glamorous healthy cut that provides natural volume. The facility is always clean & inviting. The beautiful girl that works the front desk (Lacey) is so kind and helpful with appointments. Just a truly great experience all around... every time. Thank you Lauren! read more

Lauren continues to be my first and only choice for sugaring- she is so professional, knows exactly what she's doing, and is able to put me at ease throughout my entire appointment. I feel welcome from the time I walk in the door- every patron there is smiling and is welcomed. It's a great experience. I recommend Lauren and Sage Salon to everyone! read more

A week after my first haircut from Lauren, I was in Whole Foods when a woman walked by me and said, "Someone gave you a really great haircut!" I honestly can't remember the last time a stranger commented on my hair. The biggest surprise was that the compliment came after thyroid issues had been causing handfuls of my hair to fall out. My hair was in a pretty sad state, tbh. When I went to Lauren, I was hoping just to get a cut that made my hair look a little bit thicker, but what she gave me was a game-changer. I'm grateful for her wizardry with my hair and I'm so happy that I found her! read more

I was very impressed by this salon and the ladies whom work there. From the moment I entered until I left I felt very welcomed and pampered. I had three services done a facial (beyond what I expected and very relaxing, my face felt very clean and hydrated) then I had a hot stone massage (best massage I have had in a long time, extremely relaxing and the therapist knew what she was doing) finally I got my hair done by Eliana. She highlighted and cut my hair. I was very happy with the results. If you are looking for a total spa day, this is the place to go. I was impressed with the pricing, very affordable. read more

Absolutely the best hair cut in all of my 76 years! Absolutely the most consistently the "same" cut after cut. Lauren always evaluates what is best and possible and the pros and cons I what I might think I would change. And, the salon is comfortable and offers great massage, facials and mani-pedi at very affordable prices for the quality of services. read more

I visited Sage salon in December to take advantage of their holiday stress relief package, which included a deluxe mani/pedi, 1-hr massage, facial, and haircut. The price for the package was very good, but the mani/pedi was the only thing I was satisfied with. The nail technician's personality was sweet and calming, she paid a lot of attention to detail, and the nail services were done a private, quiet room. My massage was so-so. I found the massage therapist to be a little odd... My haircut was terrible. I was assigned to one of the newbie stylists - one of the disadvantages of getting a package deal, I guess. She got rid of all my layers, which I did NOT tell her to do, and was a little hyper and overly chatty with others in the salon, as if she was not taking my hair cut seriously. The facial messed up my skin for about a month. I have acne-prone skin, especially around my chin, and have had facials before, which I found very beneficial. None of my previous facials made me break out like this one did. I broke out on my cheeks and in other spots where I rarely get pimples, and this went on for an entire month. Not exactly a stress reliever. Furthermore, the aesthetician seemed unconfident and uninterested in being there. She played Dave Matthews band and similar-type music (ugh) the entire time during my facial, at quite a high volume. It was not relaxing at all. Not once did she ask me how I was doing or feeling during the facial. The front desk staff was very nice, but unfortunately I cannot recommend the services at this spa/salon. read more

Great salon. Staff professional and good at what they do. Pleased with Karen's work and great massage by Jennnifer

I first heard about Sage on The Penguin during Kim's show. They had a special for half off any service is you say the word 'mother earth.' I took advantage of their hospitality and haven't gone anywhere else in the past two years! The owners, Lauren and Amelia, are awesome! Lauren does my hair. She gets me, and we have a lot in common! I enjoy sitting in her chair, and I see her around town a lot! She does a great job with my color, and all of my friends (even strangers) compliment me often!!! We are all Facebook friends, and they even invite me to events outside of the salon! It is great to have such a close relationship outside of business! The staff is super friendly, and I love that Sage is eco-friendly! The fact that I don't sit under a heat lamp like at traditional salons makes me feel better about the health of my hair! read more

Lauren who is both the owner and a wonderful hair stylist did my hair the other day I absolutely love it! Her prices are affordable and her years of experience and her talent are enough reasons to check her out. Her effervescent personality shows in the way she manages her business and the welcoming atmosphere of her beautiful salon. Don't even get me started on the amazing massage that Kelsi gives it's almost like getting a chiropractic adjustment at the same time! Run to Sage and tell them I sent you! read more

Got a massage and haircut here. The masseur, Morgan, was very good, with a very technical style. He was obviously very knowledgable about finding and working on my trouble spots and very responsive to my needs. Also got a good haircut from Elle. The facility is not posh, but clean and put together. The whole staff was very friendly and helpful. read more

Sage salon is a "green" salon and spa. The products they use are really nice and natural. Amelia (the owner) cut my hair, and it was a great cut! She wasn't overly chatty, which I actually like, so I will be returning to her for my hair in the future. I like to get a cut and feel a place out before I trust them to my blonde color. Prices are average for the area - though I still feel like $45 is a little steep for a 30 minute trim and style, it is what I pay almost anywhere. The receptionist seemed new, but very nice. I'm planning to check out the spa services also. read more

My friend and I was in town and decided to treat ourselves. We decided on a facial. Not sure what that young girls name is but she was lovely. I don't think anyone could have done better. The receptionist and the young man in there are friendly. The place is worth another visit read more

Do NOT let Sammie touch your head! It's a shame this salon allows inexperienced stylists to practice on innocent victims. This girl is a ding dong cheerleader wanna-be hair stylist. The color - I asked for subtle highlights - I have chocolate brown hair and was hoping for caramel'ish color. Her interpretation of caramel was golden'ish platinum. As she was blowing me out - I looked like I'd aged to be about 100 years old! That color looked like I'd sprouted a head full of gray hairs. She then tried to correct it - again, I specifically said "caramel - more of a reddish brown, not yellow or platinum"...so she added another toner to whatever she'd just done and the result was better but now I looked like I'd tried to do a do-it-yourself highlight kit. It was a streaky mess. She did it one more time and this time I just said "please just make it brown again!" I kept hoping that the stylist next to her would've said something. Sammie clearly did not know how to properly develop color. The cut - Oh gosh - I don't even know where to begin. It was horrid. My hair is wavy. She tried to put in very choppy hard layers which might be neat on super straight hair but on my hair it looked like a 2 year old got a hold of me with scissors. As she realized her error, she tried to fix it..and fix it...and fix it....so my "trim" ended up being a huge hair cut. I was so sad that I walked out of there with a freakish bob-like style when all I needed was the ends trimmed and some long layers added in. For 6 months I wore my hair in a ponytail or a messy bun because I couldn't bring myself to try to style it - just seeing it made me sick. I went to a different salon when I was due for color again and when she asked if I wanted a hair cut I vehemently said NOOOOO! I have stylist phobia now and am inclined to try to cut my own hair before I let somebody butcher it again. The salon - The salon is really beautiful. They've done a good job keeping the natural vibe. I love that they're so environmentally conscious and that they use vegan and organic products (that is what drove me to the salon in the first place). When I was there the staff seemed pleasant enough but they were very chatty. It's cute for a little while (and maybe if I hadn't spent 6 hours there getting my hair over processed and butchered this would not be an issue). Sammie and the aesthetician were gossiping and talking about their weekends, and who is "hot", and what new diet they were trying...it was so juvenile and unprofessional, and so completely out of place in this serene zen-vibe place. I didn't expect to have a full on conversation about saving the rainforest and bunnies or anything, but if I wanted to know all the juicy stuff, I would've spent 2 dollars on an US weekly magazine (instead of 100 and something)!!!The receptionist - I wish I remember her name - was very professional. She fit in very well with the feel of the salon. And maybe I looked like I was about to cry, but I thought she showed a lot of kindness. read more

Wedding day hair and make-up: Amelia patiently and thoughtfully worked with me to customize my wedding day in Ocean Isle, NC. She came out for a trial run the day before the wedding and graciously listened to my feedback on the minor make-up changes I wanted. She nailed it on my wedding day! She flawlessly dealt with a challenging mother of the bride and made my wedding party's hair gorgeous (as well as mine). Very creative in the moment and able to go with the flow. She was a great rock amidst chaos. :) I am extremely picky and was very happy with Amelia's work -- organizing a wedding from Chicago and not knowing much about the local salons was daunting, but Amelia rocked it out! Gracias! read more

LOVE love love my hair!!! Sending everyone I know to you! You fixed a nightmare read more

I got my highlights retouched by Heather who was friendly and chatty - in a good way! I was excited to find a "green" salon. They use vegan (and delicious smelling) shampoos and they recycle as much as possible - even the foils she used for my highlights! Kiki did an amazing job on my facial and it cost waaay less than I expected! I walked out of there glowing! read more

Sage Salon and Spa is awesome! I was driving through one day, saw their sign and stopped in where i met Sammie and had her fix my haircut. She knew exactly what I wanted and listened to all of my needs. I AM VERY PICKY! She impressed me so much that now my 2 daughters and one of my dearest friends got to her! We have all been very happy with the work she has done! As far as the salon... it's beautiful, the staff is super friendly and you cant tell they work well together. I love coming here because I don't feel like a client, I feel like family. I highly recommend this salon!!!!! read more

Sage Spa and Salon created a great experience for me. I have several allergies and was able to bring my own shampoo and conditioner. I had a haircut by Candice who did a great job giving me a simple cut and as we discussed a small amount of layers. I have extremely long hair and I received exactly what I requested. I enjoyed Candice's attention to detail and sweet personality as well. I also received a pedicure today from Sarah. She is very sweet, informative, and took great care to make sure I was pleased. I mentioned my skin allergies to her; and she made sure to be aware of all possible issues that might need to be discussed. The cuticle oil bothered/irritated the skin area where I have a rash near my toes, Sarah noticed and said we can use something different next time. She was very concerned about my comfort. I love my pedicured feet! They look perfect... I also love that the nail polish is made without the three bad chemicals, including formaldehyde. I look forward to trying another color next time. :) My suggestion to anyone not pleased with something during a service being provided at this or any other salon or place of business, is to communicate with them. Communication is the key to your happiness. If they don't know you don't like the music being loud or the music type, how do they know to make your experience better while you are there? Salons are there to serve you. They need to know what makes your experience relaxing and enjoyable to you. I like that it's not an all white facility. That would not be relaxing to me. I look forward to going back to Sage Spa and Salon. Thank you to all the staff for being so great! Christina R. read more

I tried this salon/spa for the first time today. I took advantage of the living social deal I purchased for a mani/pedi. I loved it!! Amelia was fabulous! She was very friendly and personable. I have been in search of a spa of this caliber for a long time and I think my search is over! I even left because I didn't carry any cash with me so that I could visit the ATM and come back to leave a tip which I NEVER do! I will definitely be going back for all future mani/pedi service. Do yourself a favor and give them a try if you want a different, pleasant and environmentally friendly experience! read more

Lauren is one of the owners and I have been following her around for years... she is THE BEST colorist. I live in Jacksonville and have tried to find people here that were close to as good as her and I have yet to find one (trust me I've tried several).... so I am stuck driving an hour away to get my hair colored. It is worth it though! I am constantly changing up my color from light to dark, to ombre, highlights etc.... she can do it all. I cant speak for any of the other stylist, but Lauren is awesome. read more

Amelia is highly skilled when it comes to curlies. She is knowledgeable in all the latest curly trends, as well as fads, providing a professional and individualized approach to my haircut. She answered all of my questions. Best cut I've had in 10 years, reasonably priced, and nearly effortless to style. I'm very happy to have found this salon! read more

Brought a picture in to show Sammie how I wanted my hair. Needless to say I am very dissappointed. You should leave a salon looking great . My hair looked better before walking in. She is determined to do your hair the way she wants it done. There is a reason she has alot of openings. read more

I have been trying since I was just a wee-fro to find a stylist that has experience with curly hair. Lauren is one of the only stylists that has actually helped my hair to grow and gives a great cut every time. She did a dry cut on me, which instead of cutting off too much and putting me back at square one, has finally allowed my hair to grow longer instead of into a horizontal-humid mess. Anyone with thick, curly hair that is looking for an experienced stylist with curls should definitely give Lauren a call. The salon also has a relaxed / artsy vibe, which also makes it great for their spa services as well. I have since relocated to Raleigh, but still make my apts at Sage whenever I am in town. read more

I've been going to Sage since it opened, as I followed co-owner, Amelia, to continue my great cuts and color. I had been to all the top salons in the area and not found anyone else who has taken care of me as well and done as good a job on my hair. All the stylists seem to have a good following here, are stylish themselves, and their clients leave looking better than when they arrived. They all seem to have a good rapport with their clients as well. Sage has a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, is eco-friendly with employees who all seem to get along well and welcome all customers warmly. Needless to say, I am quite satisfied with my cuts and colors. I refer people all the time, and anyone who has gone has been happy. Sage also offers discounts to referrals and refer-ees as well as new clients. I don't often get mani-pedis, but have had excellent experiences here. I have traveled and been to top rated resorts and spas, and although Sage doesn't compare in accommodations or price to such decadent spas, the experience at Sage comes close in customer service and end result. I've had one massage at Sage a few years ago. I was good, but it wasn't worthy of remembering or referring. I've not ever used their esthetician services read more

Sage provided manicures and pedicures in an afternoon event with almost 20 guests attending. They were flawless to work with, did an excellent job and were extremely professional and courteous. Highly recommend Sage for group events as well as individual salon and spa services. Thank you Sage Team for making our event wonderful!! read more

I love Sage Salon. I am very picky about my hair and my face. My haircuts have always been great. The cut is always cut for my type of hair and face shape. I always have people asking me where I got my haircut because they really like it on me. I also get highlights and low lights on my hair which also look good. As for Sammie, she does not cut my hair but I have seen a lot of her customers when she has finished their hair and I cannot say that I have ever seen a bad haircut or color. I also have frequent facials and peels at Sage and again have always been completely satisfied. In the past I only used Oabagi skincare products but have changed to "Image" which Sage has and my skin looks better than ever. People now ask me what products I use for skin are since they know I used to be the director of a medical skin care clinic. Sage's aesthetician, Kiki is very knowledgable and a good practicioner as I have highly sensitive skin and need a special touch. Any issues should always be discussed with the owners. They are professional and want to know if someone has an issue so they can correct it. Sage is my spot of total relaxation in a too busy world. read more

I had a Mindful Massage with Amy and it was AMAZING!!! When I walked into Sage Salon & Spa, I was stressed out and extremely tense. By the time I left Sage Salon & Spa I was completely relaxed. I highly recommend getting a massage with Amy! Also, love that Sage is green certified! read more
