Meaning that if you overpay, it will be on you to sort it out with their billing office and your insurance. I've never encountered this kind of billing process before and found it to be really unprofessional and very stressful/frustrating. Luckily I have the ability to call my insurer beforehand to get clarity on what exactly the co-insurance amount would be, but for most people, this wouldn't be the case. As a result, an already stressful experience (because who gets a scan for any reason other than something might be wrong/abnormal internally?) becomes more of a headache/pain and for no good reason. Poor care and confusing processes complicating an already broken system, meaning those with the most needs struggle even more to get the services they need. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars and not one is because the actual imaging process was fine and the technician was good. But the front desk staff/the office staff sure could use more work/customer service skills, not to mention have a little more empathy for their patients. Imagine if it were you or a loved one in the same position - would you want to be treated as callously? A little kindness goes a long way. Do better.

So we arrived here around 5 pm, and a security guard brought a wheelchair out to the car and wheeled her into the Emergency Department. That's what I call service! Then we went to check in which took longer than expected as there was a glitch in the system but luckily the waiting room only had about less than 10 people. Finally the glitch was fixed and my sister went in to see the nurse who asked her various questions, then she brought us into a room and the nurses came in to ask her more questions and then we met one of the ER doctors, Dr. Wu and he explained what was going to happen. My sister was going to get a CT scan and xray for her injuries as well as blood work, then they gave her IV of fluids and Tylenol for the pain. A nurse came to pick her up for the CT scan which only took a few minutes, then someone else came and did the xray. The staff was friendly, sympathetic and efficient. We had to wait at least 1 hour for the test results and luckily I brought some snacks as we got hungry waiting. My sister even joked about not having a tv in the room to occupy our time. One nurse mentioned that other ER's do have tv in the emergency rooms for their patients but I guess Kaiser has not upgraded to that. After all is said and done, my sister got release around 8:45 pm as her blood pressure went back to normal and her test results were good after Dr. Wu came into the room to tell us the good news.

If walk-ins are never actually going to be seen, why offer the option at all? As a contract worker, I lost three hours of work time I can't get back, and I left without the blood test I came for. It gets worse. There was no bathroom access for anyone waiting outside. After hours in line, one patient couldn't hold it any longer and urinated where they stood. That is a basic dignity failure, and it's a direct result of how this place runs its line. Once it happened, it took staff another 5-10 minutes to come out and help, leaving a person humiliated and unattended. That's unacceptable at a medical facility. There was also a heated argument over the walk-in policy, which shows how badly this is managed. Remove the walk-in option if you have no intention of honoring it, or at least tell people the truth upfront and give waiting patients access to a restroom. Anyone with a medical need, and anyone whose time is worth money, deserves better than this. My advice: book an appointment well in advance, or go somewhere else.
