As I was leaving the waiting room to be weighed, a staff member identified as Mary approached me in an aggressive and patronizing manner regarding my service dog. My service dog is a highly trained 10-year-old German Shepherd who assists with my disability. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), medical staff are permitted to ask only two specific questions regarding a service animal: whether the dog is required because of a disability and what task the dog has been trained to perform. Instead of following these guidelines, I was confronted in a way that dismissed my legal rights as a patient with a disability. There were additional concerns during this visit. The front desk was unable to print intake paperwork from the new Prairie Lakes / Riverview Health system, leaving me unable to review documents I was expected to sign. While the medical assistant and office manager were professional and respectful, the overall handling of the situation was troubling. Dr. Jeni Shull-Clayton appeared unprepared to address the situation and was unable to meaningfully discuss my concerns or the role my service dog plays as part of my care support. My service dog was not acknowledged as part of my care needs. Most concerning, I ultimately received no medical evaluation, treatment, or care during this appointment. Because no services were provided, neither Medicaid nor I should be billed for this visit. Patients should feel safe, respected, and heard in a medical setting. Unfortunately, I left this appointment feeling distressed, unsafe, and disappointed. I hope Prairie Lakes Medical Clinic and Riverview Health ensure that staff are properly trained regarding ADA service animal law and patient rights so that other patients do not experience similar treatment. I am unclear if I nor my adult kids, desire to return here any longer after trying them for years. My questions are answered, prescription issues addressed when needed. The My Chart tool used in this way, allows me to stay focused on issues, tests, appointments and medical history in a comprehensive manner (especially helpful as we age!)

One thing that was different than my previous dentist is that Dr. Nam didn't do my actual filling. She administered the numbing agents and then another person came in, placed and set the filling, and then Dr. Nam checked this. In my other experiences, the dentist always did the full procedure, so this struck me as slightly odd. Other than that, office is clean, staff is friendly, and both appointments took me nearly on time (within a 5-10 minute window) which I think is pretty good!

Ms. Butler performed one of the procedures today, and I'm already feeling less pain in the area she focused on. She was compassionate and gentle, plus she kept me involved at all times. The next procedure will be July 3 to hopefully resolve the larger issues identified. If today's results are anything like this on July 3rd, I'll have high success expectations. He performs fluoroscopically and ultra-sound guided procedures for pain and spasticity. He is located at the IU Neuroscience Center directly facing W. 16th Street. This large glass building is very easy to find, and a parking garage is attached to the Neuroscience Center (ticket not validated). Patients can be dropped off by the main lobby with wheelchairs available by the information desk. The staff at the desk are super friendly and helpful. The doctor is personable and well-spoken, explains the process well, and has a visual aid, plus he answered all my questions. I do wish I had taken a few notes to remember medication given and some of the other details, but I have an appointment in a couple of weeks. During the procedure, he explains first what he is about to do. I love that so I can prepare myself. Dr. Morrow was great about controlling the pain and checked often on me. Most of what I felt was pressure when injecting the medication. This was my second procedure to resolve another area in my spine. I am still anxious but no longer fearful as I was during the first procedure. I worry slightly of the complications that could occur, but I feel it is worth the risks. Dr. Ramsey-Morrow and his team have earned my trust. After two procedures, I truly believe he is a dedicated and skillful physician who acknowledges each patient as an individual. I didn't feel as if I was in an assembly line but his only patient. The area of my spine addressed is already showing signs of improvement. I cannot say enough good things about this practice. Let's start with support staff. They are…read morefriendly, helpful, and just all around pleasant. I have left several doctors and dentists, purely because the support staff is so awful. Dr. Brengle's team never make me feel like I'm an imposition or a number. I am treated respectfully and my time is respected. Dr. Brengle is the best doctor I have ever had. I have migraines and asthma. Many medications to treat one can exacerbate the other. He has worked hard to help me find the correct mix of medications without making me feel like a guinea pig. He has never treated me like a pill seeker or a hypochondriac, which unfortunately is not common when addressing migraines. Dr. Brengle is not afraid to tackle tough subjects and he does it with grace and tact. During my physical last year, he made the tough choice to address my weight. At the time I was very overweight, with blood pressure issues, and high cholesterol. He discussed what I have tried to lose weight and provided me with information on the most recent studies on weight loss. He didn't give me anything gimmicky or try to sell me supplements. It was basic nutrition 101 - eat less, exercise more. He explained that studies show you lose weight simply by being accountable to someone. I started coming in weekly, then biweekly, then monthly to weigh in and talk about any struggles I was having. It's been almost a year since that appointment. I've gone from a size 18 to a size 8, losing 42 pounds. I've maintained my weight for the last three months, despite the pandemic bringing stress and making it harder to get lots of protein and fresh vegetables at grocery stores. Weight loss doesn't solve all your problems, but it has solve quite a bit of mine. My blood pressure is down, normal BMI, good cholesterol, great blood sugar, all of my stats are in a healthy range. I'm 41 and just put on a skirt from college. Finally, Dr. Brengle makes himself available 24/7 in many ways. I have had in-person visits, phone call visits, and sent him pictures and messages after hours for rashes, injuries, etc. It was weird to do the club medicine thing. You pay a flat rate every month, which gives you access to unlimited appointments. For someone who rarely goes to the doctor, this may not be a good fit for you. For someone like me that has health conditions that need frequent monitoring, I've saved a bundle of money. And it is comforting to know that anytime I need a doctor, I know who I will see, that he will be available, and it will not be a hassle.
