Kee Mao Noodle with Shrimp
Lance N.

A few days ago, a few friends went looking for some Thai sauces and goods before going to the Palms Thai Restaurant. Now, I have been here before, but it has been many years, and it's changed inside as there was no more stage for Elvis to perform. The service was nice and pleasant for sure. As for my order, it was very good, but not totally expected. In the past I have ordered spicy at other Thai restaurants and they have a hint of heat. At the Palms, I would say it was a bit of a fire with the spicy rating. Hahaha... the flavor was good, but I was putting up a sweat and going through my Thai Ice Tea like it was water. Now I can take some heat and so I didn't mind the spiciness of my Kee Mao, but I will warn you to check your tolerances before going all the way up to spicy. Hahaha ... Enjoy, as I will definitely be back.

Absolutely phenomenal no frills Thai food. The decor is quaint and modest but the food packs a punch. Went here and had a delicious lunch. Both authentic and incredibly well sized portions. You will not go home hungry. We went with the catfish salad, phad thai, and chili basil stir fry. Everything was packed with flavor and it was probably some of the best Thai food I've experienced. Rich in flavor and the perfect level of spice. Everyone was very nice and the food came out quickly. Would definitely come back.

I haven't been here for years and it's time to revisit. Hostess was very welcoming. Service was great and they're all attentive to the customers. Prices are reasonable and good food. They have shows at night. I will definitely come back more often. Thumbs up

Great service. Elvis was in the House rocking his great songs. Food was excellent. Had great time with family here. Parking was easy.

Chicken Sa-Tae and BBQ ribeye

My first experience enjoying Thai food was at a birthday celebration in December. It was a fun time. Palms Thai Restaurant is a great place for large group celebrations . The atmosphere is upbeat and lively. So the wife and I returned for a post Valentine day dinner. Once again the staff was very accommodating , nice and friendly. Food is fresh and delicious, served hot from the kitchen. I love the family-style dining so I could return to second helpings of the spicy water spinach (Morning Glory). Mixed vegetables are delish also. The shrimp-fried rice was so good with large shrimp throughout. Crunchy fried wontons with chicken Sa-Tae opened the evening. BBQ beef ribeye filled me up and was washed down with a delicious unsweetened ice green tea. Looking forward to our next Thai food experience.

Service was underwhelming and the food didn't live up to expectations -- especially for the price. What really left a bad taste was the automatic 18% "large group" gratuity for a table of 4 adults and one 3-year-old. That's not a large party by any reasonable standard. We always tip well, but this felt like they chose quick cash over long-term business rather than focusing on good customer service. We were going to tip well anyway, but it felt wrong -- like they wanted extra money rather than earning it through good service, since we only asked once for napkins and bowls that should have come with the soup, they never checked on us, and we even had to get our own to-go containers because they were too busy. After years of coming here, this experience makes it an easy decision not to return. There's better Thai food down the street with better service that doesn't feel the need to shake customers down for extra money. Heads up to other customers: this place is starting to feel more about money than customer care.

Crab curry

Beef satays were delicious. Love the sauce & meat were tender too. Crab curry were a bit more salty & spicy than expected from a medium, although flavorful. We might have made a mistake of dunking the vermicelli into the bowl and mixed with all of the curry sauce. Probably would be better, had I spooned the curry crab on to the vermicelli sparingly and mixed in more curry as needed. There is a parking garage shared with the storage shop next store and entered from Bronson Ave. I went on Friday night and it was $5 all night. (Check their closing hours if you wanna use it for pantages parking, which is an easy 15 mins walk) Love all the cute wooden cat sculptures lined up at the ceiling.

2. Egg Rolls
Jamal G.

Myself and a few coworkers decided to stop by Palms for lunch. The restaurant was fairly empty in the middle of the day so the service was fast and friendly. I had the friend wontons, egg rolls, and as my main course I had the chicken curry with a medium spice level. The wontons were a 4/5 for me. They were crispy and flavorful. I could eat those things all day. The egg rolls were ok (3/5), but I've had better. I really enjoyed the chicken curry (4/5). I got a medium spice level which was perfect for me. The chicken as well as the veggies were flavorful and tender. I would definitely go back for this.

Another savory, delicious and authentic Thai dinner at Palms Thai restaurant. The catfish curry paste, Thai omelette, Tom Kha chicken soup were few of the highlights. Staff are super friendly and nice. Ambiance is bright, cozy and comfortable with lots of seatings for large parties. Parking is valet only. A true Thai classic restaurant in Hollywood. Highly recommended!

Coconut soup

Service is sometimes a hit or miss honestly but I will say the food is really really good. Probably my favorite Thai restaurants in LA. The fried trout with mango sauce is really the star for my family and I , the crispy fried trout with the sweet mango sauce is just so delicious . The coconut soup taste better than other places . Parking is mandatory valet 5 dollars , not bad I guess being in Hollywood . The restroom has a funny story on the wall to read .

Victoria M.

Ordered: * Chicken Pad Thai- 9/10 * Combination Fried Rice- 8/10 The chicken pad thai was delicious! It was saucy and all the flavors were harmonious. I thoroughly enjoyed the combination fried rice. It was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and didn't lack any meat or flavor. Would definitely come back again!

Khao Soi Beef

A long-time favorite of mine, my family and I have been coming to this place for years! They offer $5 valet parking. The menu is extensive, and you really can't go wrong with anything. My personal favorite is the coconut shrimp soup, it's flavorful, spicy, and one of my gos after a late night out.

Palms Thai Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Palms Thai Restaurant

Do they take reservations?

Is this the same restaurant that use to be in the same parking lot with Ruen Pair?

Yes. But they moved over 15 years ago. And no longer have the Thai Elvis. Don't know if they still have stage singing weekend nights during Covid.

Does Palms Thai serve Jade Noodles, my favorite?

No, they sadly do not or that I know of.

How much does the valey parking cost? Do they have an on site self parking lot or garage and how much does that cost?

Free garage parking No charge

What time is the live band starts?

I've been there a few times various days of the week and I have yet to see one. I don't think they have a live band anymore.

Does everyone that come here pay for parking? Where else can you park without paying?

Yes I do pay for parking, we came in tonight and it was $5.00

A Thai restaurant I know used to have freshly fried shrimp chips as an appetizer. Like the fresh, high-end version of what you can buy in bags and markets. They took them off their menu. Where can I get these delicacies? Does Palms Thai?

What I do know is that Palms Thai Restaurant serves as an appetizer called the "Shrimp Cakes" which include 4 per order...and are served with sweet plum sauce. Hope this helps...… Read more

Is Thai Elvis still performing Saturday Nights?

No, unfortunately no. Thai Elvis went back to Thailand. But there still is a live singer (usually female), and that's a nice consolation.

What would you recommend for someone who can't eat spicy?

Yes. You choose your level of 'spicy'.

The regular menu is quite expensive with the cheapest at $17 for appetizer and salad options and most expensive at a whooping $80. The lunch menu was more affordable but still on the pricey side $21-$32 with add on options. The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. Parking is metered parking or paid lot.

I felt like I came to eat and my mom's house. They take Debit Card and Apple Pay WITH a pin only. I forgot my wallet and paid with Apple Pay. It did not have a place for tip which made me feel awful. At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. This place is by far my favorite Thai restaurant and that's why it's so disheartening to write this…read morereview. I have written at least 2 glowing reviews of the restaurant in the past and wish this could be one of them, but it's not. Over the last 4-5 days I have tried no less than 2 dozen times to call the restaurant during proper business hours to order food for pick-up as I often do. The phone rang and rang to no avail. I live too far from the restaurant to just pop up and place an order so I rely on calling ahead. I have been a customer of this restaurant for at least the last 9 years and have almost never had the aforementioned experience. Though I do recall not being able to get a call through several times on one or two occasions in the relatively distant past. Today I was finally able to get a call through and began placing my order which includes shrimp. I ALWAYS request the tail (with shells) to be removed from the shrimp as I find it quite difficult to enjoy my meal if I'm constantly having to pick off shells with my hands. It's unsanitary and messy. Removing the tails from 15-20 shrimp prior to adding to an entree or soup should take no more than 60 seconds and that's if one is moving at a glacial pace. However, today I was told that the kitchen was too busy to honor my request. I assured the lady taking my order than I was a loyal customer and make this request will every order I place and it is always honored. She repeated her claim that the kitchen was too busy and refused to do it. I cancelled my order and ended the call. Now I usually order food from the restaurant 4-5 times a month and usually spend about $65 each time not including tip. That is approximately $325 per month of my hard earned money that I give to this restaurant in exchange for great food and service. I am appalled and quite upset that having been a loyal customer for almost a decade and spending as much money there as I do per month that they could at least honor my patronage by simply taking an additional 60 seconds in the kitchen to make my meal more enjoyable. Her refusal to do such a minuscule task has deeply soured my experience with Hoy-Ka not to mention the fact that I could not reach the restaurant for almost a week by phone for no apparent reason. I will not be going back to this restaurant until they rectify this situation.

Each time I've come the waitstaff has been super friendly, and the food amazing. So, when planning a little birthday lunch for my mom's 81st birthday, this was one of the first places I thought of. My mom lives in south LA and we live in the valley, so after picking her up, we wouldn't have to travel far to eat. Although we planned to arrive to the restaurant at 2, traffic was horrible and we arrived at 230pm. After looking for parking, I dropped the fam off at 2:40 so they could sit and look at the menu while I found parking. I get a text from my husband saying they closed at 3 so hurry. This was news to me, as I thought they closed at 5. I found parking and rushed in at 2:48, to see my family outside the restaurant. Perplexed, I went in to ask if we could still eat, as it wasn't yet 3pm. No wait staff came to the front to greet me, so I walked in a bit and asked the waiter if it was okay to eat. The waiter said we close in ten. I said I thought the website said you closed at 5. I must have read it wrong. I understand, but it's not 3 and we came a bit of a distance and it's my mom's 81st birthday. The waiter, whose name is Jack, offered to ask the kitchen if they would still make food. I said yes please would you ask? While Jack was asking, another waiter asked me if I had been helped. I told him yes, that Jack was asking the kitchen if we could still have lunch. This waiter says, we're closing in 10. I'd like to have lunch too. And walks away. Yes, with shade. Jack returns and says it's fine as long as we can order within a few minutes of getting the menu. I say great and we all come in. The 2nd waiter takes our order with the least amount of personality he possibly can, and the whole lunch is slightly awkward and we're not able to truly enjoy ourselves with the feeling of "we better hurry up and eat" lingering. By the time we ordered and received our food (which was delicious as usual) , there were still 4 other groups of customers there, and we actually left the restaurant within a minute or two after the last customers before us. Also, no one came around to ask how our food was and if we needed anything. I'm giving 3 stars because this experience didn't quite sit right with me. Yes, it was near closing, but your doors weren't closed and there was no sign saying last call/order at 2:45 or anything like that. I feel like once the kitchen approved making our lunch, customer service should have been at its peak for paying customers, who gave no attitude and tried to be as polite with the ask as possible. It was not. I still tipped 25%, because Jack (waiter 1) was polite and my 81 old mama who I was celebrating raised me that way, but I'm not sure I'll patronize them again.

The Pad Thai was the best I've had outside of Thailand. Extremely well balanced, not too sweet, not too tangy, not drowning in sauce, just perfectly done with great noodle texture and loaded with shrimp. The Pad Kee Mao was so flavorful. Smoky, spicy, full of flavor, and had that proper "wok hei" char that makes noodles addictive. The Pad See Ew was equally rich and savory, and deeply satisfying. We also got the turnip omelette (Kai Jeow with preserved radish) and it blew my mind, honestly. It is so simple, but packed with flavor. Somehow one of the best egg dishes I've ever had. The morning glory with pork was another standout, super fresh, garlicky, and cooked perfectly. Everything came out hot, portions were generous, and the whole table went silent because the food is too good to talk through lol. On top of that, the servers were super nice, friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better despite how busy it was :) Packed restaurant, amazing energy, AMAZING food. We got the raw shrimp salad, spicy catfish and bbq pork over rice. The raw shrimp "salad" is probably the best thing we've ate, but the chili sauce was over powering and couldn't really taste the freshness of the shrimp. And I feel like there could've been saw garlic to go along with it, but nope, just decorative cabbages that is not edible. As for the bbq pork over rice, the sausage was good and the crispy pork too. But the BBQ pork itself was HORRIBLE I literally spit it out. It tasted like old refrigerated dry meat, barely edible. And then the spicy catfish, the portion was so small, it looked like someone ate half of it. The pieces very tiny and it was so dry it tasted like it was refried. The spicy sauce didn't help much. And I overheard the table next to us waited around 30 mins for their dishes. Overall, I'll not be coming back here. There are much better Thai spots than this. Not to mention the parking is horrible as it was valet only on a Saturday.
