Came here for a lunch on a Saturday and it was moderately busy but not bad. Parking is easy as there's a parking lot. The ambiance and decor inside is so cute and unique. The menu is huge with lots of vegetarian options too. We got the tom kha soup, vegetable fried rice, pad see ew, and fried banana with ice cream for dessert. The service was really good and they were nice to give us the egg on the side for the pad see ew since only one of us wanted it. All the dishes were good but could've used a little bit more flavor and spice in my opinion. We had to add lots of chili to it. The tom kha soup was nice and sour because of the lemongrass. We had some Thai essentials, pad see ew and papaya salad, and to be honest they were less than stellar. We ordered our dishes spicy-spicy, but they came out safe-spicy. The food is very good and a little different from what you would eat at most Thai places. Jitlada serves up some of the best southern dishes with bold spicy flavors and delicious seafood. So make sure you like seafood and you like a little kick to your dishes. Otherwise, you can still order most of your Thai favorites here too. The crispy morning glory salad is an original dish and not something you can get at any Thai place either. Definitely one of my favorite dishes. The water spinach was lightly battered and served with chopped shrimp in a light and tangy citrus sauce. The green mussel curry was another group fav. The curry was fragrant and flavorful with lemongrass, Thai basil and galangal. Great over rice too. There were just enough juicy mussels to share with the six of us. The crying tiger beef was the perfect appetizer served with its tasty dipping sauce. This is the grilled or fried pork/beef jerky you would order at other Thai restaurants but here it was tender, tasty and not at all too chewy. We ordered some of the basics like the chicken tom kha and shrimp pad sa ew. Both were spot on and as delicious as you'd expect. The portions in general are on the medium to smaller side. A spot that has existed for so long that it's crazy I never reviewed it. I'm a frequent visitor to the classic theatres throughout Hollywood so I come by after a late night film showing for some great grub. This time I opted for wings which I somehow never tried. These were solid but the chili sauce was a little flat. Tasted like the type you'd buy in the grocery store. Which the wings also had a little more crispy. The crispy pork with noodles was a real winner. Noodles soaked up all of his flavor through the sauté. All were so tender and the bits of pork belly were like nuggets of goodness scattered around. Paired nicely with some sambal. Red Curry with Chicken was the standout. So thick and creamy, they must really have a high ratio of coconut milk to water. The restaurant itself wasn't too busy when we arrived so we can seated immediately. What we ordered: - Crispy Morning Glory Salad was a standout. Super flavorful and not something I've seen elsewhere. The morning glory is lightly battered and fried until crispy, and the flavors blend really well. Savory with just a hint of spice. - Crying Tiger Beef was also excellent. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the tamarind dipping sauce had a nice balance of sweetness with a solid kick. - Papaya Tiger Prawn was my least favorite. I got the fried honey duck, which was okay, a bit dry, next time I would opt for the stir fried duck. The Thai tea was good. The service was good, the whole place looked nice. OK, my last review saying the only thing to get there is the southern Thai last page-dishes, and having corrected my error from the last time, I stuck to that page, and it wowed me once again. Jackfruit jungle curry tofu had a wonderful sweet/sour taste; beef khua kling with a fishy sauce was like a wet "dry-rub bbq" taste, and perfect mouthfeel. I've heard about Jitlada for many years and finally got to try it on a rainy evening (I thought it would be less busy). The place was PACKED. If it was busy on a stormy night, I can only imagine how packed it is on a regular day. Parking was honestly a nightmare. It took me 20 minutes of circling the local neighborhood to find a parking spot. The actual wait to be seated wasn't bad at around 20 minutes (thankfully my friend had already snagged a table by the time I parked). The menu at Jitlada is really quite extensive. There are numerous types of curry and noodle dishes. I stuck with a classic, the spicy mint noodle (drunken noodle elsewhere). It was definitely in my top 3 drunken noodle dishes but honestly $21 was a lot for the portion size. I usually grab Thai food in OC and it's significantly cheaper with the same level of flavor. I also got a simple pot of tea and finished with their mango sticky rice which was heaven! So despite the long wait times, there is always at least a dozen or so parties outside because all the dishes are so flavorful and unique. The crispy morning glory salad is one of their most popular appetizers, and every bite packs a punch of flavor and freshness. For me some dishes were a little too sour and too spicy, but the ingredients I can taste were very fresh and high quality. One of the worst service experiences I've had at a restaurant. We sat there for about 10 minutes without anyone coming to take our order. I raised my hand multiple times trying to get someone's attention, but no one seemed to care. Meanwhile, some of the staff were outside chatting with what appeared to be regular customers while we were still sitting there waiting. When someone finally came to take our order, her attitude was incredibly rude and unpleasant. She acted like we were bothering her just by being there and was cold and dismissive the entire time. To make things worse, one of the dishes we ordered was never even put in. The service stayed bad throughout the entire meal. No one came to refill our water, some of the plates were not properly clean, and after we finished eating, we were once again left sitting there waiting just to get the check. It felt like we had to chase someone down for every basic part of the dining experience. The food itself was actually good, and we finished everything that did arrive. But I definitely would not call it the best Thai food in LA. There are simply too many other great Thai restaurants in the city to justify putting up with service like this. I also brought a friend here, which made the whole experience even more embarrassing and disappointing. Good food does not make up for terrible service. I recommend the Thai tea and a spicy smoothie. I got ginger and it was delicious like ginger chew candy. The crying tiger beef portion was small but it still tasted good and was perfect crispness. I would honestly get another dish that is more filling. Shrimp fried rice was delicious but there was not the most shrimp in it. I still think it's worth getting. The oxtail curry was my favorite. It was on the spicier side but extremely flavorful and the oxtail melted in your mouth. I am for sure going to get this again and recommend it. Any of their southern curries are good but the oxtail as the meat made it even better. Jitlada's menu has like a hundred items. Why can't they narrow it down to just the best stuff? It should be easy to order their best food, but they make it difficult. Even if I go back, order "the right thing," and discover it really is the best Thai food in LA, I don't think I'd change my review. Restaurants should be judged by the quality of their food overall. Worth the wait! Had a little snafu yesterday morning as the restaurant opened an hour later due to an issue and luckily my group was not in a rush to eat. We were seated very quickly once they opened the doors and the staff paid extra attention and took care of everyone, came over to check in periodically throughout the meal without needing to flag them down. Also, thank you to all the customers who came and waited patiently, didn't complain loudly or berated the staff who had no control over the late opening. Grateful to be with a chill even vibed crowd from what I could see. The food was fresh and flavorful. We ordered Som tum (mild was no spice so next time will try medium even though was hesitant), stir fried morning glory we asked to have less seasoning and it was perfect (thank you for letting us adjust due to sodium concerns!), yellow chicken (fried stuffed chicken wings), giant grilled prawns w seafood sauce on the side, pork jerky, sticky rice, and mien kham (have to come back when the leaves that they usually use will be in season- we got basil leaves will still works and is delicious but I want the authentic one). Have to say my favorite dish was the mien kham as I was looking forward to it and it didn't disappoint even though they used basil leaves.
