The customers with 1-2 star reviews weren't lying!! I grew up on Thai food bc my mom is one of the best home cooks out there! Whoever gave this a Michelin star wasn't Asian for sure. And for the record whoever made the word LARB is wrong. The phonetics is LAAB! There's No "R" in the pronunciation. Just like PHO was mispronounced LAAB should also be corrected. This restaurant was very disappointing. Not only was the service rude and lazy so were their food standards. I never complain about portions but a few main orders was about enough for a teenager kid - not adult portion. Ordered food to go for $150 and I almost believed that they gave us leftover food from someone else's plate since we ordered for pickup right before closing as they wouldn't take any more Uber Eats orders, even though it was an hour before closing so we ended up picking up. Called service on the phone after opening the order at home, but they didn't care and said to email the restaurant. I emailed and no one cared to reply for weeks. * Beef salad - Wilted lettuce, hard beef, barely any lettuce and the bottom core wasn't even chopped off the lettuce heart. They're so lazy I even wonder if they were washed properly. Requested either Thai basil and mint in the salad bc that's what my friend wanted - delivered zero in the salad with like 3 small pieces of wilted lettuce * Chicken pad Thai - didn't have any bean sprouts or peanuts! It's like ordering fries and they don't provide ketchup. Those are the basics for pad Thai. * Shrimp Tom Yum Kung - lots of flavor, correct type of mushrooms but VERY sweet * Sticky rice- this wasn't even large enough for me someone who is 98 lbs. * Beef Jerky - now here's where I believe 99% they threw the scraps from other people's order onto here bc they were closing and reluctantly took the order over the phone an hour before closing. Have you ever gotten fries from fast food and they were all a quarter inch long? And you know that the bottom shakes & scraps right? Every single piece we got was less than half an inch and they are supposed to be 3 to 5 inches long. I feel grossed out eating here because I really do believe that they just threw some customers leftovers into our to-go order because it was late and they were extremely rude and wanted to leave and go home. The oil for the beef smelled so stale!! The salad was the same. * BEEF LAAB - ok guys here's how you tell if a restaurant is authentic. The meat is supposed to be hand chopped like CARNE ASADA pieces - not ground beef. That's cheating and no good authentic restaurant will make it like that! Look at the beef laab pics from Thai Bistro and compare to Jitlada. Big difference! 6) Chicken Satay - dry like cardboard. It's not hard to make this and the restaurant simply doesn't care anymore bc they're riding on the hyped Michelin star. If you want more tips on how to tell if a restaurant is authentic there are some dishes you can focus on and do some food forensics like I always do but this time I didn't bc my friend swore by this restaurant just bc it was a Michelin. LOOK FOR: 1. Tom Yum - it should always have the dark straw mushrooms not the white mushrooms. Bonus is you can see long stalks of lemon grass and Kaffir lime leaves. 2. The LAAB should be hand chopped pieces- rustic style like carne asada meat. If you don't see that find a restaurant that has that like at Thai Bistro. 3) Papaya salad - should be hand scored rustic not done with a peeler so all pieces are thick enough crunchy and different textures. The best Papaya salad is at Hollywood Thai. They hand score it and it's perfectly crunchy and rustic. Every bit is different but amazing. Ask for the Lao style papaya salad with blue crab. You'll love it! Way better than Thai style bc it's more savory, robust and flavorful. 4) look for dishes with the green string beans. Authentic restaurants will use the Long Bean which is skinny and wrinkly not like the regular American Green string beans. That's how you know a restaurant really pays attention to authentic details of the dish. 5) Look for sauces. The more types of chili oil and pickled chilis- the better the restaurant. I've posted pictures of exactly what we got of the beef jerky. Scraps. This was so disappointing. I will never eat here again especially being someone who is half Thai. We know our food and I do not suggest anyone who wants authentic Thai food and good service to come here. I would rather go to Thai Bistro down the street because their food looks way more authentic in the pictures and it doesn't come with an attitude and entitled staff because of a wrongly misplaced Michelin star. Even a $10 cash tip didn't even come with a thank you from the guy who prepared it. A spot that has existed for so long that it's crazy I never reviewed it. I'm a frequent visitor to the classic theatres throughout Hollywood so I come by after a late night film showing for some great grub. This time I opted for wings which I somehow never tried. These were solid but the chili sauce was a little flat. Tasted like the type you'd buy in the grocery store. Which the wings also had a little more crispy. The crispy pork with noodles was a real winner. Noodles soaked up all of his flavor through the sauté. All were so tender and the bits of pork belly were like nuggets of goodness scattered around. Paired nicely with some sambal. Red Curry with Chicken was the standout. So thick and creamy, they must really have a high ratio of coconut milk to water. It tastes good with modest serving; nothing extraordinary compared to other Thai spots in LA. However, their food prices are pricey. Some of LA's known writers and actors have been into this place. We order so many dishes that I honestly can't remember all of their name. Overall, I can see why this Thai restaurant is so popular. The flavor here definitely interesting. For me some dishes were a little too sour and too spicy, but the ingredients I can taste were very fresh and high quality. We ordered the duck curry, which was very unique and not usually see at other Thai restaurants. The crab omelette was also excellent with no pieces of shell at all, which I really enjoyed. Jitlada, named after the Thai royal palace in Bangkok, is well deserving of the name. The place was booming with customers and incredible aromas. We were greeted right away, seated promptly, and served without delay. This is a place you can come to with friends, family, or on a date! The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but don't let that deter you because the food is outstanding. We ordered the fried rice, crab meat noodles, spring rolls, yellow wings, spicy salmon rolls, and fried banana with coconut ice cream. Everything was delicious, and I'm already planning a return visit. Pro Tips: 1. The restaurant gets very busy, so you may need to briefly wave down your server. The restaurant itself wasn't too busy when we arrived so we can seated immediately. What we ordered: - Crispy Morning Glory Salad was a standout. Super flavorful and not something I've seen elsewhere. The morning glory is lightly battered and fried until crispy, and the flavors blend really well. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the tamarind dipping sauce had a nice balance of sweetness with a solid kick. - Papaya Tiger Prawn was my least favorite. If it was busy on a stormy night, I can only imagine how packed it is on a regular day. Parking was honestly a nightmare. The actual wait to be seated wasn't bad at around 20 minutes (thankfully my friend had already snagged a table by the time I parked). The menu at Jitlada is really quite extensive. There are numerous types of curry and noodle dishes. I stuck with a classic, the spicy mint noodle (drunken noodle elsewhere). It was definitely in my top 3 drunken noodle dishes but honestly $21 was a lot for the portion size. I usually grab Thai food in OC and it's significantly cheaper with the same level of flavor. I also got a simple pot of tea and finished with their mango sticky rice which was heaven! I had much better luck in the afternoon: I arrived before opening and was seated immediately. The inside is quite small considering the crowds they get. And for good reason: the food is phenomenal. So despite the long wait times, there is always at least a dozen or so parties outside because all the dishes are so flavorful and unique. My personal favorites include the crispy morning glory salad, the crispy duck roll, the southern curry, and fried banana with coconut ice cream. The crispy morning glory salad is one of their most popular appetizers, and every bite packs a punch of flavor and freshness. I also can't get enough of the fried banana with coconut ice cream: smooth and fluffy ice cream paired with crispy, glazed banana pieces. We ordered Red Snapper, Duck with Rice and Spicy Pork Foot Soup. We asked for an extra side of white rice and mango sticky rice for dessert. Snapper was rich in garlic. For the Spicy Pork Foot Soup, the pork was substituted with Chicken feet. According to the server the kitchen was out of pork feet. However, it wasn't communicated to us that the substitution was made. The server apologized and asked if we wanted a substitution. We took the dish as it was. The broth was strong the chicken feet chewy. Accompanied wonderfully with the rice. For the day, the mango was just at the precipice of ripening. A bright yellow. Sweet and slight tang of sour. Not overpowering to the sweetness of the condensed milk nor the sticky rice. Outside of the mixup, food is great not minding the total cost. Dare I say top 3 Thai places I've had in California. Dont let the 3.5 stars fool you, that's how you know this place is authentic. I came on a Saturday afternoon with friends and we came starving. But once we placed our order, it didn't take too long for our food to came. The slow service was immediately forgotten once I had my first bite. We ordered about 6 dishes for 4 of us. That may seem like a lot but the portion sizes were not that big. Their menu is also MASSIVE and had so much variety so it was really hard to pick just a handful of dishes to try. Some of the dishes I have never even heard of but I definitely want to come back and try new things!! Okay, let's rate the dishes (no pics bc we were so hungry that I forgot): Yellow wings 2.5/5: my boyfriend ordered this bc stuffed chicken wings are his favorite but I personally am not a fan, I thought the other dishes we got were more memorable. It wasn't bad but not my cup of tea! Mango raw blue crab 5/5: I personally love a papaya/mango salad that's drenched in fish sauce (Laos style) and bonus points if it has raw crabs. Once I saw this on the menu, I knew I had to try it and I think I personally ordered the best item out of all the dishes we got. The blue crab had a good chunk of meat on it. The mangos weren't too sour, perfect texture and ripeness. It was a very refreshing salad. Crispy morning glory salad 5/5: I've never had deep fried morning glory, only steamed so this dish was unique to me! The texture was really good, perfect amount of crisp but it wasn't too heavy for it being deep fried. Def order this and the shrimp they used was plump. Spicy mint noodles (4/5): this is their pad kee mao, and you can never go wrong with ordering this dish. I loved how saucey their version is bc I find that some Thai restaurants, their version is a bit dry. Duck fried rice (3.5/5): I never thought to put duck in fried rice even though I grew up eating duck, somehow it never crossed my mind. It was good but I think I'll try something else next time. Soft shell crab curry (4/5): I've never had soft shell crab curry but my bf and I are big fans of soft shell so this was really good! I was really excited to try Jitlada, especially since I've heard such great reviews. Flavor-wise, the food did not disappoint, it honestly reminded me of my aunties' cooking, which I loved. That said, there were a couple of issues. First, the timing of the dishes was off, everything came out separately, and our last dish arrived cold, which was disappointing. The bigger issue for us was the customer service. My boyfriend and I both felt completely invisible the entire time. No one checked in on us, and when we tried to get someone's attention to reheat our panang curry, it was really difficult. At one point, a staff member acknowledged me by looking at me but didn't follow up or ask if everything was okay. We came around 10 PM when it wasn't busy, so it was surprising. Unfortunately, the service was so lacking that we ended up having to get up and ask for the check ourselves. We would still give Jitlada another try, because it may have just been an off night. If you can stomach the wait, then Jitlada is a great spot for a great Thai experience in LA. At Jitlada, you can get all the dishes normally available every where else in LA but you can also try something that's a bit more unique. We're a huge fan of the larb, with this intense flavor, and the tom kha here, with the soup being one of the best we've had anywhere. The crab fried rice may seem basic but here they top the fried rice itself with a ton of crab. Some of the more unique items we get here are the morning glory salad, duck krapow, celebrity chicken, and usually we go with some sort of fish with lime juice! However, it's a big menu and not all will hit. One particular disappointment were their crispy pork dishes with the pork's not really crispy. Dishes here are quite small, so I'd say 2-3 dishes per person is the way to go when sharing. For dessert, we usually go with the mango sticky rice, and they got a good one here! Service can be hit & miss. It's so busy here all the time, you may need to ask several times. Parking lot is small so most likely street is your best bet.
