Palmers has always been a great experience for me. I'm only in town once and awhile for work but always make it here for lunch. It is conveniently located in the skywalk really close to where I work. The ordering process can be a little hard to figure out when you walk in but after watching a few people I figured it out. Maybe some signs on how it works. They have different sections for sandwiches, soups, and salads. Then you pay at the end. I usually get the chef salad with the creamy garlic dressing which is fantastic. Salads also come with a roll which they have a wide variety of options. Everything is tossed together in front of you and can add or take out things. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. I am usually here alone and it's a great spot with lots of space for solo eaters as well as tables of 4 or more. Definitely recommend for a quick lunch. read more

Fresh tuna salad sandwich with a healthy serving. Yum yum. There staff is extremely nice and helpful. The tuna salad sandwich was very light but with a heaping serving of tuna. The bread was very light, fluffy and soft. In also ordered the clam chowder soup, which was okay but more cream than flavor. You can access this place thorough the city walk, which is downtown Des Moines. Especially on a rainy day like today it is great to use. Almost every building is connected by the sky walk and you can access the street level. Such a charming area. Would definitely come back for a deli sandwich. read more

I placed a to-go order. They sure push turkey at this place... They put a ton of turkey on my Vegetarian sandwich! My fiancé's Melt sandwich had at least 90% turkey with only a couple slices of ham... they might as well have named it Turkey melt. read more

Stopped by Palmer's Deli with a co-worker today and the place wasn't too busy since we got there around 11:15am. The place usually gets pretty busy around noon, so plan accordingly. There are multiple lines you can get in to order your food. So there is a sandwich, soup, and salad line. You can start wherever you want and then pay for your meal at the end near the salad line. You'll find your typical sandwiches, ham, roast beef, turkey, tuna, etc. They offer different kinds of bread such as marble rye, ciabatta, croissant, kaiser, and sourdough. For soups, they have chili, baked potato, tomato, and a soup of the day option. For salads, they have Chef, Cobb, Greek, Caesar, Teriyaki, and Spinach salad. I ordered the Chicken Caesar salad without black olives. The lady helping me said I could replace the olives for another item, so I added cucumbers to it, so that was nice of her. The salad was good, nothing special, but that's kind of what I expect these days when ordering a salad. It did it's job by filling me up and not making me feel to fat :) They also have alot of pasta salads, and other side dishes. The desserts here are ginormous! The rice krispies are so big, that I probably would have had to share with 3 other people. Who am I kidding...i'd probably eat the whole thing! The prices are kind of high at Palmer's so don't expect to pay $5 for something to eat, but if you're looking for a place that serves good sandwiches, soups, and salad...oh and desserts, then check out Palmer's! read more

I got their box lunch here today and left full but not satisfied. Also very confused while ordering. I got their Palmer's specialty sandwich which had a whole lot of meats on it and it came on some type of sourdough. I didn't get asked what type of bread I wanted but that's ok. I could tell the meat they use is good quality but the sandwich as a whole was very bla. Since I got the box I got sent to the section with salad where the 4oz salad portion was scooped and left in the back where I was confused where to go next. Eventually someone pointed me in the direction where I can get cookie and they grabbed my salad that was left on the back counter. Confusion of service aside, as I said sandwich tasted like something I would throw together at home and very bla, the salad was ok, chips were out of a package, and cookie was not at all soft but very sandy. My coworker also said he was not happy and would not come back again as he didn't like his soup or sandwich. I spent almost $12 on some not so good food. I think I could have a salad here because they have a good variety. But judging by the prices and taste of food, this is the last time I will be coming here. In town for business and this place was close to my hotel. I'm not a big sandwich eater. Was going to get a variety of their salads but honestly I was a little confused about he process as a first timer. I wasn't sure where to go or what to do so I just headed to where it looked like the beginning was. (Maybe some instructional signage would be helpful?). I decided what the heck, I'm at S sandwich place, I'll get s sandwich. I ordered the "Sub" which was some meat and cheeses, (I think it was salami, ham, cheddar, Swiss?) lettuce and tomato on a ciabatta, and your choice of condiments. Cream cheese???? Yes! (My favorite sandwich shop of all time outs cream cheese on so I had to) I was going to get a pasta salad on the side but when I saw the enormity of the sandwich there was no way. This was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had!!! I can't even tell you exactly why. The flavors just went together so well and the bread was amazing. Being able to add cream cheese was the icing on the cake. If I'm ever in town I AM coming back. Every day. UPDATE! It's now 1.9.2018 and I'm back to have the same sandwich! Lol. Palmer's Deli makes a very legit sandwich! And an even more legit salad. It's kinda like a salad bar, but you don't have to touch the utensils! They make the salad for you, and you pick the toppings! They have a great selection of toppings including some really fab hummus! They also do great soups! The only bummer about this location is the limited hours! It's only open for lunch, but hey call ahead and they will have it ready for you! This location is big and open and has plenty of seating, they can hold a lot of people and the line moves fast! So if you only have a half hour for lunch this would be a good spot to hit, to get quality food in a quick fashion! read more

Palmer's is definitely a classic. The sandwiches, soups, and salads are made with good quality ingredients. It's fairly standard. The service is always great and the seating makes for an excellent lunch. Living downtown I wish they were open in the evening for a quick bite when I need it. read more

This place makes some very good salads. As sometime who consistently is underwhelmed by restaurant salads, it was refreshing to get one that tasted as good as one I'd make myself. Specifically, I ordered the Greek salad. It was a decent size, and came with spinach and romaine, tomato, olives and feta, all tossed in Greek dressing. Simple enough, but everything was super fresh and melded well together. Service is quick and efficient, which is important, since this location gets slammed with the office lunch crowd. I will have to take one star off, simply for the prices. I think they are a tad expensive, but it's not highway robbery by any means. read more

BROWNIES!! That's all you need to know. They have the best down here. It's a fudgy brownie with a sickeningly sweet and deep dark chocolate. Palmer's serves REAL FOOD, which is why they are always packed in what has become a total wasteland for the downtown lunch hour. Unfortunately, that is also the reason they charge you an arm and a leg for their food. If that wasn't clear, I think Palmer's is overpriced, but it's excellent quality and very consistent. Sandwiches, salads, market deli salads, soups, etc. It is all wonderful. I'd go more if it didn't set me back $10 for lunch. There are still other options nearby that serve up competitive "real food" for $6-8. read more

Great food. Kindof expensive. Very busy. I went one day with my wife for lunch on a wednesday. She always raved about it. I wasnt impressed. The place is gigantic with a warehouse type feel to it so you'd think there would be room. Wrong. It was like Best Buy on black friday. My wife had to show me through the lines because they're are a few depending on what you want, and they cross a few times. Very confusing. My sandwich was what you'd expect from any deli..not huge but not wimpy either. It came with one rather small and a drink. So I added another side. When I finally got to the register I was out over $10 just for mine. Now I haven't been to too many delis but $12 for a sandwich meal is a lil steep. Getting my fountain drink was a chore too due to so many people. When we sat down, I noticed how underdressed I was. More suits per square foot than the IRS.. but Palmer's is downtown. The food, as expensive as it was, was delicious. So if you don't mind shelling out some extra cash and listening to businessmen BS with some out of towners, it does have some pretty good food. read more

The signature sandwiches are always stacked high with meat and toppings, and the variety of salads is phenomenal. I work right next to this place so I have eaten here more than 50 times. The soup here is delicious. Actually, all of their food is pretty good, even salads (and I never like salads). The workers here are nice, hardworking people. The only reason why I give this place a four is because it can get pricey if you eat here a lot. However, they give you nice portions. read more

Palmers is really good, consistent food. I have liked everything I have tried here and I've tried a lot. My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner here and the service was great.
