    7. Market Tuna Specialty Sandwich. Look how fluffy the bread is.
    Angela D.

Fresh tuna salad sandwich with a healthy serving. Yum yum. There staff is extremely nice and helpful. The tuna salad sandwich was very light but with a heaping serving of tuna. The bread was very light, fluffy and soft. In also ordered the clam chowder soup, which was okay but more cream than flavor. You can access this place thorough the city walk, which is downtown Des Moines. Especially on a rainy day like today it is great to use. Almost every building is connected by the sky walk and you can access the street level. Such a charming area. Would definitely come back for a deli sandwich.

The one place in the world that you will find Frogs eye salad! Such a treat! Found Palmers in 2009 and love that they are still going strong. Fabulous food and friendly staff. You won't leave hungry.

Stopped by Palmer's Deli with a co-worker today and the place wasn't too busy since we got there around 11:15am. The place usually gets pretty busy around noon, so plan accordingly. There are multiple lines you can get in to order your food. So there is a sandwich, soup, and salad line. You can start wherever you want and then pay for your meal at the end near the salad line. You'll find your typical sandwiches, ham, roast beef, turkey, tuna, etc. They offer different kinds of bread such as marble rye, ciabatta, croissant, kaiser, and sourdough. For soups, they have chili, baked potato, tomato, and a soup of the day option. For salads, they have Chef, Cobb, Greek, Caesar, Teriyaki, and Spinach salad. I ordered the Chicken Caesar salad without black olives. The lady helping me said I could replace the olives for another item, so I added cucumbers to it, so that was nice of her. The salad was good, nothing special, but that's kind of what I expect these days when ordering a salad. It did it's job by filling me up and not making me feel to fat :) They also have alot of pasta salads, and other side dishes. The desserts here are ginormous! The rice krispies are so big, that I probably would have had to share with 3 other people. Who am I kidding...i'd probably eat the whole thing! The prices are kind of high at Palmer's so don't expect to pay $5 for something to eat, but if you're looking for a place that serves good sandwiches, soups, and salad...oh and desserts, then check out Palmer's!

I got their box lunch here today and left full but not satisfied. Also very confused while ordering. I got their Palmer's specialty sandwich which had a whole lot of meats on it and it came on some type of sourdough. I didn't get asked what type of bread I wanted but that's ok. I could tell the meat they use is good quality but the sandwich as a whole was very bla. Since I got the box I got sent to the section with salad where the 4oz salad portion was scooped and left in the back where I was confused where to go next. Eventually someone pointed me in the direction where I can get cookie and they grabbed my salad that was left on the back counter. Confusion of service aside, as I said sandwich tasted like something I would throw together at home and very bla, the salad was ok, chips were out of a package, and cookie was not at all soft but very sandy. My coworker also said he was not happy and would not come back again as he didn't like his soup or sandwich. I spent almost $12 on some not so good food. I think I could have a salad here because they have a good variety. But judging by the prices and taste of food, this is the last time I will be coming here. They have nothing special I would come for.

I apologize for the half eaten sandwich. I couldn't stop. The "Sub"

Sandwiches were hefty and voluptuous. Ciabatta was a little dry. Soup was fire flame. Overall would recommend.

They've got wide selections of sandwiches and honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. The Manhattan is my go-to (Corned Beef, Ham, Salami, Coleslaw & Swiss with Mustard, Mayo & Pickle on an Onion Bun) but I always sub the onion bun out for a hero bun. Every flavor works well with each other, the coleslaw is sweet and contrasts well with the saltiness of the meats, the crunch from the pickle, and finally the mustard cuts into all of them for a beautiful clash of senses in your mouth. Other sandwich pictured is their Tuesday, it's a daily special sandwich you can get on any day. The special pricing won't apply if you get it on another day obviously. The Tuesday was hearty and the cheese on top of it was seasoned well. The peanut butter brownie, very decadent! I don't even like brownies but I always try to snag this one whenever I'm here! Service here is always prompt and helpful. The ambiance does a great job at pulling on the community aspect you feel at your local corner store in NYC.

Dreamed about this all night, that warm pillowy soft marble rye piled high with that delicious NY Pastrami, pickles, and mustard. My Beautiful Wife got the Zach Johnson or #3. Hoagie with ham, hard salami, pepperoni, provolone, hot pepper cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, oil dressing, added banana peppers. I had a bite and can say this is my favorite cold sandwich here. It's definitely a solid sandwich. We split the #1 with ham, cotto salami, bologna, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, oil dressing on a hoagie bun. Definitely another great sandwich. I don't think there is anything on the menu that's not delicious. I stayed away from the Chocolate Chip Crack Cookie, but it was so hard leaving without one. Don't forget a pickle spear as a perfect end to a fantastic delicious flavor festival of a lunch. Just amazing food from an Amazing Authentic Deli.

Pretty shameful on my part considering the shop was first opened by the Brooks family in 1922... I'm not a big fan of downtown, but B&B isn't quite as downtown as I thought. More Southside. The store is a definitely mom and pop. There's a small lot to park in just off of Hartford Ave and there is additional street parking available. You enter by the grocery area. There's a counter and register kind of to your Left as you walk in. You walk past the counter and you will see the sandwich and meat counter further to your left. For sandwiches you walk to the furthest end of the counter where the sandwich menu is hanging and place your order. When your food is ready they call it out by the items in the order. Payment is done at the counter and register back towards the front of the store. First off the food was great! No complaints. The selection is HUGE... Something like 74 sandwiches available to order and a nice selection of sides. I took my order to go, but there is limited seating available for dine in too. I ordered an extra large breaded pork tenderloin with onions, pickles, and mustard. An order of hot cheeseballs (comes with ranch). And a dad's killer sandwich (cold). My total came to just around $30. Cash preferred. 2.5% surcharge for using a card. The tenderloin reminded me of Chuckie's and that puts it in good company. A little thicker and on a proportional bun. Similar breading. The cheeseballs were fresh out of the fryer and the ranch is fantastic; made in house I assume. The meat and the vegetables on the deli sandwich were impressively fresh. The real star here to me was service! As I walked in one of the staff had two young girls by a board with some toys and jewelry on it. He was counting down as they studied the board. The girls were laughing as they were deciding on a choice. Some sort of giveaway game for kids they do when they have time I assume... I was greeted immediately as I walked up to order. There were three or so people waiting for their food. Placing an order was easy. I'd looked at the menu online and kind of already knew what I wanted, but it was still fun to look over the colorful boards and signage. They were busy working on their tasks but there was some cordial banter back and forth. The wait was short and there are plenty of things to keep you visually occupied here too. Everything was individually wrapped and taped up in butcher's paper. As I took my items all three gentlemen behind the sandwich and meat counter thanked me for coming in. When was the last time that happened to you at a big box store...? I'm not an introvert... I struck up a conversation with another customer and the woman at the register as I was paying. The other patron and I stood outside and talked for a bit. We were about the same age I think...he might have been a skosh older...mid-50s to early 60s. He was the one who told me how long the store had been open, the family name, and that he had been brought/coming here since he was three years old. Said his mom still calls it Brooks Grocery (v. B&B)... Not that I couldn't have found all that online, but I'm not one to shy away from a friendly visit of any kind. I mentioned to him that I found the customer service here to be a really refreshing thing. He said he thought the three gentlemen helping us had been there maybe 15 years or so. A handshake and thank you and we were both on our way. Can't say enough about my visit to B&B Grocery today! Friendly service and great food! Fair pricing. Don't make my same mistake... If you haven't been yet...find the time to stop by! http://bbgrocerymeatdeli.com/
