Just wrapped up a visit to Paley's and had mostly a good experience. They are a well-stocked garden center with lots of flowers and veggies and all kinds of necessary (and a few extraneous) accessories ranging from gloves to rakes to pots to manure. So yeah, we wound up with a pretty large assortment of tomatoes, cukes, peppers, spinach and what-have-yous. Prices aren't cheap, but then this is planting season when markets do much of their selling. We again missed begonias in hanging baskets; we'll try later in the spring. The staff here are pleasant and knowledgeable folks, and the greenhouse and the inside market are clean and easily accessed. Paley's Farm Market & Garden Center is definitely worth the trip from anywhere. From the friendly people, Gorgeous plants, to the delicious produce it is a treat for all the senses. The hard working staff are always keeping it very neat and clean. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Paley's for over 10 years. I value the quality and variety of plants they have as well as the amazing selection of soils for my pots and raised vegetable garden beds. The atmosphere is friendly and there is always a staff member to help or advise on plantings. I also love the indoor market where you can purchase fruits, vegetables, handmade pastries, local meats and cheeses and bouquets of fresh cut flowers. I look forward to their season opening each year. Paleys's is a true gem in our community. read more

Im shocked a the reviews. Sorry not getting to use staff bathroom doesn't warrant a one star. We live nearby and love this place, the staff couldn't be more helpful and kind. We were there today and found stunning plants beautifully cared for, had a lovely banter and off we went. Smiles all around. If you need to use the bathroom there is gas station not far in Ny state. HA. The entitlement of some people! Insulted by the sign? Had too many snacks on the way? oh brother. Go see for yourself. read more

I've never purchased a single plant that was not perfection. The staff at Paleys are knowledgeable and the friendliest people you'll ever meet! I had always looked forward to a visit to Paley's to begin my summer season but my most recent visit will sadly be my last. We had come with friends following a Garden Conservancy Open Day tour in Sharon. Inspired by the garden we were visiting, I suggested we head a little farther to Paley's. Since we had left home hours before, we were all ready for a bathroom break before spending some cash on those beautiful ceramic planters ( reason for the two stars) visible from the parking lot. " AND THAT MEANS YOU" was scribbled on the sign posted on the bathroom door under the warning " This bathroom is for staff only ". I was stunned. Not only was the sign meant to be restrictive, it was demandingly unwelcome. Paley's had always been a day trip for us. Because the surroundings offered little in the way of restaurants, we always carried a snack for the ride back home. We were always comforted by the fact that a restroom would be available- no longer. Plus, we had to endure being "shouted at " for not being privileged enough to use it. read more

Amazing!! Literally amazing! I was first greeted by the sweetest staff member I had ever met. I told her it was my first time visiting and she gave me a little tour of everything Paleys had to offer. The market had locally sourced beef, desserts, cheeses (IPA infused ones too) and the most beautiful garden center I think I've ever seen. She was very upfront that they were still waiting on some locally sourced fruits and vegetables for their store that still needed more time to grow and ripen. I need to go back and see the market in full stock or fresh produce. I imagine it looks beautiful like everything else there. Whatever you need for your garden or landscaping decor this place has it. And if you're in the mood to cook something amazing and fresh....also covered. This business is 10/10 all the way around. read more

Sold Diseased Plants, They Don't stand behind what they sell, I will NEVER buy there again. I am a gardener with 30 years of intensive experience. I spend thousands of dollars every year on plants and supplies. Eager to try them, I spent a few hundred dollars and went home with the plants. Three of the plants (oriental poppies) quickly begin exhibiting signs of blight. Blossoms turned black and fell off on all three affected plants. It's called: Bacterial blight, Xanthomonas papavericola. Infection first appears as water-soaked areas which soon become black and are often surrounded by a translucent ring. A bacterial exudate or ooze may occasionally be found in the spots. Spots may develop on leaves, stems, buds, flowers, and seed pods. When stems are girdled, plants collapse and die.This occurred during the super dry part of the early summer, and was NOT caused by water. This blight is a problem I have seen once before, about 20 years ago, and Cornell coop told me this is a disease in the plant that cannot be cured, plants must be destroyed. I called Paley's and told them what happened, offered to send photos and/or bring in plants in sealed bags for their inspection. They gaslighted me, told me they'd "get back to me", but of course I never heard from them again. We are not talking about a lot of money, it's the lack of honor and integrity to fix something that is so infuriating. And by the way, it's probably not Paley but the supplier who grew these plants that is at fault, but Paley completely fell down in the basic decency of standing behind what you sell and making it right. I'm truly disgusted by their response and urge everyone to go elsewhere, these people are not honorable. If you want the best plants at the most reasonable prices, I had an excellent experience at Northern Dutchess Botanical Gardens. All plants from them are thriving. Paley's? AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!! read more

Lovely market but the owner was so rude that I am perplexed. I was in the process of selecting HUNDREDS of dollars worth of plants and flowers and respectfully asked her to use the ladies room. I was shut down, in no uncertain terms, and not very kindly. Nothing is close by out this way, when taking a drive to check out a special place and give them business, it would be nice to freshen up. Baffled. Not going back. Too many options to tolerate this kind of interaction. Coulda been great Paley's, but I think not. read more

I have been a customer of Paley's for many years. I have enjoyed all the local produce. In as much as I want to support local farms I will be visiting other locations. The owner/manager is out right rude and not accommodating at all. I understand that once in a while someone has a bad day, but after a few visits with the same attitude I'm done. read more

I couldn't agree more with Kimberley. I had a similar experience with the owner of Paley's. I was a frequent customer for ten years until he yelled and berated me because I mentioned that a bald cypress I bought from him died. That was at least five years ago and I have never set foot in there again. read more

Walking through Paley's outdoor and greenhouse plant area is, for us gardeners, like being a kid set loose in a toy store. At season's height, the assortment of plants--annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables--is vast and high quality. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly beyond the call of duty, and the fresh produce in market, both local and imported, is choice. Paley's is one of the treasures of the area, and we always feel bereft when it closes shop in the autumn. read more

I agree with Kimberly T. It took me a few months after my encounter to write this as I support small businesses, but one should not shop here. There are so many lovely farm stores in the area where the owners are professional---these owners are unkind, particularly Sarah. Be careful when doing a transaction with her. It was a very unpleasant experience and I will never return. read more

Enjoyed our first Paley's corn of the season tonight. Looked and tasted delicious! The sugar plums I picked up a couple weeks ago were fantastic as well. All the fresh fruit has really stood out to me on my visits this year. read more

I've become an avid gardener since moving to the country. Over the last 8 years I've spent literally thousands at a plant/fresh produce store called Paley's just over the CT border. Well, that once beloved relationship is now OVER! I went to Paley's yesterday morning for some tomatoes, 2 plants & some potting soil. As I wandered around the green house looking for 2 flowering pots to replace a couple that are done with their growth period, the owner was out there watering, I replied good morning to his greeting, we both remarked on the drop in humidity & "isn't it great" etc etc. Little did I know he had a Jekyll & Hyde complex! A moment later, one of the kindest, sweetest people I have ever known came out to see if she could help me. No sooner than we exchanged greetings did the proprietor begin screaming at her, telling her that "there are only 2 people out here!, this is not your job!" "What's wrong with you, just do what you're told!" "You're worthless!" Blah Blah Blah!!! I was absolutely stunned!!!! Not only did the owner have no regard that a customer was clearly within earshot of his berating, screaming tantrum, but he also has zero understanding that he has no right to speak to anyone in that manner. When I tell you I was literally sick to my stomach witnessing his behavior, that is an understatement. As I was visibly upset by this, another employee I'm acquainted with asked if I was OK, to which I asked if there was anything I could do to help the situation, she said it most likely would just "set him off again" & from what I gathered, he mistreats his employees regularly. I then went into the grocery part of the store to get my tomatoes, as I was checking out, the owner & the female employee came into the store. She was following him around with a notepad, as he was barking orders at her. I waited for the tone to settle a bit & then stepped over to them from the registers where I was checking out. I merely wanted to let him know that she is an excellent employee & quite frankly, one of the reasons I returned to his store frequently. He literally yelled at me that "he didn't want to hear it & that I could just tell her", he then, rudely turned his back on me in mid-sentence & stormed out the door. What kind of employer doesn't want to hear a compliment about one of his employees? All the ladies working there apologized profusely, clearly embarrassed by their bosses' behavior. I replied it was absolutely not their fault. One of the checkers followed me out to apologize again. I told her it was I that was sorry, sorry I witnessed what I did, sorry they all had to work for such an awful man, & sorry that I would never step foot in his store again. I will never understand why men think it's OK to humiliate, berate, & scream at women. I can guarantee these mindless knuckle draggers would never have the balls to treat other men this way. No, they get their jollies treating women they know would never fight back despicably. I have since learned from friends that have lived in Sharon for decades that Paley's owner has a reputation for mistreating employees, to such an extent that numerous new hires have quit their very 1st day. This is no excuse to continue to behave so horribly, it's never too late to evolve & become a better person. Although I truly doubt that thought has ever entered his pea sized brain. Suffice it to say, I intend to spread the word about the owner of Paley's, as well as never giving him my business again! read more

I have bought at Paleys every year for the last 6 years as I think even though I pay little more, their product is superior. However, I refuse to give my $300+ per season to that company now and will seek elsewhere for my annuals and perennials. Too bad! read more
