The beach is located on a dead-end street, so it's on the quieter side. There are only a handful of stalls right near the beach access, but 400 feet away is a larger lot with plenty of free parking. We came on a Sunday around 1030a with my 2.5 year old toddler. He had the time of his life digging the sand and playing in the shore break. At times, the waves got really big, and we had to watch out, but in general, it was a swimmable beach. I even got in at 6 months pregnant! We saw two sea turtles swim by while we were there, which was a treat! You can see the offshore islands as well as west maui, which makes for a picturesque day. The sand is super soft and fine, and there is hardly any coral to worry about stepping on. Really reminded us of Kailua Beach on Oahu. The showers and restrooms are back at the lot, so plan accordingly.

There are no facilities here sans for a lifesaving float belt posted near the beach's entrance. As long as there's no south swells, the water is very calm; good for swimming/floating and snorkeling with a small reef close to shore. A convenient loading zone is available near the beach allowing you to load/unload your gear. A lack of parking is the only downfall as Makena Road is a residential street with just a few spots along the shoulders. There is a small park and parking lot just north of the beach that also sports restrooms. OVERALL: The "baby beach" of Makena.

It's located within walking distance from luxury resorts like the Four Seasons and Grand Wailea. It's also minutes away from The Shops at Wailea shopping mall. It's a popular spot in a busy area so there are lots of people but the water is very blue. They have complimentary parking in the lot nearby and also have public restrooms. If you're lucky you might be able to spot sea turtles in the water.

We've gone to Maui at least a dozen times, and this place is always a go-to for us. There are never many people, and the wake is family-friendly. I would recommend bringing an umbrella because there's not much shade, and it can get pretty hot. There's some parking, but it is probably limited to 20-25 cars (some disabled parking available). Please keep in mind that there are no restrooms. If you're looking for a place to hang out that is not busy, this will most likely be a good experience for you.

You won't be the only one here but it's much less crowded than Makena Beach to the North. We went during "peak" time in late afternoon and at 9 am and both times there were other people there. It's very easy to find, google maps will lead to it accurately. You'll be in a residential neighborhood trying to find a break in the black stone wall but most likely you won't be able to spot it because cars will be around the entrance. The cove you walk into is part of the secret, you can go exploring north and south to find more though the only entrance we could find was through the black stone wall.

Very calm waters with plenty of reefs near and while we didn't see thousands of variety of fish we saw enough to leave happy and with good stories... My son saw a turtle! and we saw lots of Dori's family members and tons of Reef Tigerfish which also known as the Hawaiian State fish! There is a golden time to do snorkeling or swimming without the bigger waves rolling in. We got there around 11 and stayed until 1pm or so because the waters began to feel more forceful. Also a telling sign was the surfers started showing up another telling sign the tides were shifting. Have a great time, and be ready to see a lot of beach chickens too! Oh lastly, it's a very short walk if you want to grab something to eat at a cool indoor mall with a few food truck style options and if you need to shop for things (Safeway, Longs drugs, ABC, novelties).

If you are going with little kids bring water shoes. I was taking small and big pieces of fresh broken glass -- not sea glass-- out of the sand and water. There are homeless people. We went early in the morning and a person was swimming close to us and he pooped in the water. A huge human turd floated by us and it was disgusting. It's sad because the water was clear and the coral made it such a fun place for the kids but that incident made it so gross, I had to shower immediately. But because the area was so shallow we stayed anyways.... The shaded area smells like pee. So not sure how clean it is.

Several canoe clubs paddle and SUP boards are here everyday. There are parking spots available right at the beach. There is a nice grassy area (not all that big but nice), showers and a public restroom. I only gave it 4 stars because the water isn't very clear. No one would ever snorkel here. People do swim here but I prefer other beaches for that.

There is a nice grass area above the beach where kids can run (as mine chose to do) or yoga as others chose among my wild little humans. There are bathrooms and showers in between the beaches. The beaches are split by rocks giving it its own unique little cozy cove feeling. I found a little entrance to the beach that made it seem like you were going on an adventure. We found a big snail making his way before rush hour, as well as some plants. Fresh air, soft sand and small waves, take a stroll on the sand or pathway. Mahalo

We love coming to this spot for the past several years. We have a couple of great spots we go to…read morefor shade on this beautiful sandy beach. It's a great swimming and snorkeling spot. We know right where to snorkel to see at least one or two turtles. We've noticed that there is less fish here from years past even with less people in the water since COVID. We have seen turtles, whales and dolphins from shore. It was just last week when we watched dolphins playing and jumping for a good half an hour. Soon we will be seeing whales breaching right here. We also come here 3-5 times a week to walk from here to 5 Palms. Sometimes we even stop for a cold adult beverage at the 5 Palms bar....and maybe lunch too.
