I love supporting black owned businesses and I have been wanting to come here for a while. So let's get into this review. Upon arrival it was very hard to tell who was in charge.. I saw kids at the register and people just hanging around. They have open seating and a bar areas. I sat myself down and after a few minutes of waiting a young girl came to take my order. I can tell this is a family owned business as the young girls at the register appeared to be sisters or cousins. My order took a very long time to come out, almost 30 mins... I ordered amala and gbegiri, stew and ewedu with an assortment of meats. The food was delicious, however the meats could be more tender... This restaurant has a lot of potential but they need to improve on the wait time and the ambiance.

    Elegusi with goat and fufu

Wonderful, wonderful food. I have an ever lasting passion to try food that's entirely less known in Austin and this place is so underrated and too less experienced. A hidden gem indeed because even the building has no storefront signage. The mother was so welcoming. I simply told her I want to try multiple things even if I'm not familiar. her eyes lit up and asked the right questions to get down to what I was in the mood for and what they could whip up. It felt very personable. She recommended for me, asaro yam porridge with chicken stew and goat elegusi with fufu. The food was so delicious so warming. Everything was cooked well and tender, the porridge was the most flavorful porridge I've ever tasted it's sweet, soften but hearth yam and peppery creamy reduction of flavor. The elegusi had bits of fish, meats, spinach, melon, topped with tender goat meat stew. Fufu served piping hot and soaks up the soup perfectly in every sweep of the fingers. I got two entrees for myself which my leftovers were equally enjoyed by the boyfriend. Hospitality was great, you felt well taken care of and anyone that was dining in and going out was so satisfied, proud to have found such a hidden gem for their friends and family. Highly recommend, Beatrice and her daughter are very talented cooks. They truly do justice in serving Nigerian food on the pedestal that I deserves like all other cuisines in Austin. I'll be back with folks

On this beautiful weekend in Austin, our dinner destination was chosen to be at Palate-able Nigerian. We got greeted warmly and seated right away. Asked for suggestion and we settled on these: peppered snails, jollof rice, yam porridge, Ewa Agoyin, and goat meat. Ewa Agoyin is black eye pea stew and sauce and meat. Jollof rice came with chicken and rice is very tasty tomato flavor. Peppered snails was spicy dish but tolerable. We had left overs for another meal. One thing I just wanted to point out is the meat was a bit tough to chew. Overall, the kids approved tasty food and unique experience. We will be back to experience other dishes next time.

    Not packaged well and leaking

Food is nasty , got food poisoning Spent 70+ dollars and had to throw everything away way.

I have visited Palatable twice and both times I have gotten the beef and jollof because it's so good. The jollof's bold flavors with the plantains is my favorite. The suya spices is so spicy but I love it! Next time I go I would like to try the vegetable stew.

Amazing! First time trying African food and it was very yummy! The jollof rice with assorted meat was very good! The egusi had great flavor especially with beef as the meat!! Definitely a must try, will be back!!

Finally Austin has an amazing Nigerian Place that serves true authentic Nigerian delicacies. Stumbled upon this gem of a place and loved everything we ordered (suya, fried meat with jollof rice, seafood okro, pounded yam). Jollof rice has that smoky flavor and perfect level of spice and herbs! A must visit whenever I am in this part of the city.

Finally, a place with great Nigerian food in Austin. I loved the Jollof rice, it was smoky and very tasty, the best I've had in the Austin area. The ambience was airy and bright with great Nigerian music filling the room from the TV. Not the fanciest, but certainly functional and inspiring trust in the sanitation of the kitchen. I can't wait to come back to try other items on the menu.

So I got the goat soup and maaaaaaan lemme tell you!!! It was soo spicy and it was sooo good, it was a green soup broth with herb and spices in there. I felt like it was almost a green birria or carne en su juego that my dad makes but different tastes, same texture and different meat lol. The goat meat was fall off the bone dude and even though there was a lot of bone and cartilage, it was still so good I ate EVEERYTHING! Except the bone, I even sucked the bone holes man to get the bone marrow or meat in there pause* It was really spicy so I enjoyed it, it might not be for Everyone If you're Hispanic and like spicy food and broths this is the one for you cause it's brought back memories of food similar to what my dad use to cook when I was younger. Okay so price: it's 20 bucks but it's worth it in my opinion Portion: could be better to be honest it was a lil bit but with the effort and flavor they put in I'll support it evens out. Rating 5/5 ign I highly recommend

I went during the lunch buffet, so I was able to try as much as I wanted. I didn't realize how vegetarian friendly Ethiopian food is! I liked everything, but I LOVED the spicy lentils. Especially with the injera? Oh my god YUM! Everything about this restaurant was a 10/10. More people should come visit this independent restaurant, there's food for everyone!

The last time I visited, the prices had gone up slightly, but still super affordable (around $15) especially for all the food you're able to get during their lunch buffet. In terms of location, it's located right off I-35 so pretty convenient. Decent amount of parking available. You can choose to sit indoors or outdoors but I would recommend sitting outdoors since there's more space. In terms of service, it's all self-serve so more of a choose your adventure setup. There's a bunch of different options (veggie, meat, etc.) you can fill your plate with! The mix of flavors/variety makes for a delicious, filling meal. I particularly enjoy their injera, doro wott (chicken), begg wott (lamb stew), and any of their lentil dishes. Sometimes there'll be dessert too (such as pound cake). Highly recommend if you're looking to try some Ethiopian food in Austin! It's a reliable spot, and the lunch buffet is an especially great deal.

We started with the sambusas, one beef and one spinach, and both were really good. They came with this tomato sauce that tied everything together perfectly and added a nice extra flavor. We also added the potatoes. It was a HUGE amount of food, we felt bad we couldn't finish all the bread it was on! It also came with ample rolls of the bread for picking up the food. I would compare it to a thali platter in Indian food, but much more food and different spice profiles. We were not afraid to ask for a fork though and were glad we did! :) Each item on the sampler was unique and SO flavorful. The food is very fresh and we assume made to order-from the time we got menus to being served was 28 minutes- so expect a slower meal than fast food or a chain! The owner came out and talked to us and was very kind. We will definitely eat here again and are excited to bring friends and family as this truly is a unique experience you can't find in many American cities. Random Tip- the strong smell of the many delicious aromatic spices really permeated our clothes after we left -don't wear clothing that you can't easily wash right away lol! I don't have trypophobia by any means, but I was unsure about how I would feel about the texture of it. That being said, I shouldn't have worried at all, it was delicious! The texture reminded me kind of Ma Lai Go, if anyone is familiar with that. Side note: this is an awesome place to visit if you are dining with vegetarian eaters, because the vegetarian options are so bountiful. One of my favorite things we ordered though was the beef sambusas. It was hot and crispy, stuffed to the brim with flavorful beef, and the tomato-y sauce was delicious. The minchet abish was also really good. The meaty stew was so addicting, I wish they had given us more. And then we had to try the Doro Wot after hearing that it was Ethiopia's national dish! The chicken was so tender and the sauce was so creamy. I kind of expected it to be spicier, but the level it was at is probably best to appeal to everyone.
