I have come to the palace many times in my year that I've lived in Whitefish, and have had no problems. That is until last Friday July 17th when I went to grab a drink, and check out the overall vibe. When I arrived I paid the cover, and then went to go get a drink. It was a bit too crowded for my liking so I paid for my drink, and decided to head out after maybe about 20 minutes total. Right as I got to the front door this woman named Jessie Grabbed me by the shoulder, and started yelling in my face telling me I am 86'd from the bar. Not only did she assault me, but became very irate when I was explaining to her I was leaving anyways so I wasn't sure what the issue was. She the continue by calling me Tristan which mind you my name is not Tristan, and I was so confused by all of this. I know most of the bartenders, and they have told me there is no problem for me to be in there since, and that Jessie is a bartender there herself. She was not working and also like I said assaulted me, a paying patron on The Palace Bar. I want this to come to whoever's attention is most necessary as I did not feel welcome or respected at all in that moment. I ended up leaving, and she tried following me out of the bar while still yelling profanities at me. This behavior is very unacceptable, and I can move forward with any action if need be in the future. This is a great establishment, but again that behavior from an off duty bartender who didn't even have the right person is not ok in any way. This is like one of the only real bars left in the area. There is no fluff. The staff is friendly and show respect, and tip. Strong drinks at old school prices. Don't get fancy. Most of the one star reviews I read seem to be about being treated rudely or unfriendly locals. If that's the case you earned it fair and square. It's what gives The Palace character. All the one star reviews are so whiny, like written by out of state putz's. Show respect and it's given back. Don't expect your ass to be kissed because you have a fat wallet. read more

We stopped in here while waiting for our reservation at one of the local restaurants and it's a decent dive bar. It has a very interesting history and we enjoyed being able to read about it. The service was decent and we had a pretty good local beer while relaxing in one of the side booths. It's a very unpretentious place and it's great if you're looking for a local dive bar. read more

my first review ever because of the extremely rude service. never in my life have i experienced such a rude bartender. short brown hair with glasses. looks like a librarian. my friend tried to get her attention to order a drink. a wave. she came her to her and said "im in the middle of an order, have u ever been to a f-ing bar before?" and walked away. clearly having a bad shift but my friend apologized and waited. later, my friend lost her wallet, and asked her if they found anything. she said no, we lingered for 2 more minutes while we discussed where to go next. she then proceeded to shout at me from across the bar and said "can you guys just get out, you're pissing me off! her wallet is not here" ????? excuse me ?? i hadn't spoken to her ONCE the entire night. i watched my friend be polite while the bartender treated her like a toddler. horrible manners. dont know what is happening in her personal life, but u shouldn't take it out on attendees. clearly, a very sad woman. read more

I came here with some friends on our yearly trip. Went in to play some pool and have some beers. We were completely respectful and our whole group is over the age of 21. After a few games of pool I was literally groped by an old lady and some other guy was with her they were both sloppy drunk and very rude. I voiced that I didn't want to be touched for no reason and then we were subsequently kicked out of the bar for being " disrespectful to the pool tables and our entire group being under age" even thought we all showed ID and were sold beers ! read more

Secret--my first underage drink (at age 16) was at the Palace. We used to be able to sneak in during Winter Carnival. I'm sure that doesn't happen anymore. But officially, I've been drinking at the Palace Bar for about 30 years. Large, spacious, old bar. It dates back to at least 1912. It's a dive bar with tin ceilings and bathrooms that look like they came out of a high school locker room. Cheap drinks. This is a townie bar, most tourists would rather hit the new Casey's or the Great Northern whereas the Palace is where locals go. The bartenders are exceptionally good at sussing that out. Whenever I come back to Whitefish, I make sure to hit the Palace. It's a sports bar. The walls give that away. They had 4 tvs and each one was set to a different sporting event which was really nice. read more

It's sad when you have a neighborhood bar that you love so much with great service by people like Beth ruined by such a terrible bartender like their newest hire--young blond. She was too busy to serve us drinks doing shots with customers, then annoyed by our presence in general. Apparently she does not know she is in the customer service industry. The best thing is the Rebel Roots kitchen inside the Palace Bar! Amazing food! The Vegan tacos are the bomb.... very addictive. The only downside is they are seasonal only. I miss them in the winter. read more

This became my favorite bar in Whitefish. When my sister and I first arrived we stopped in but didn't really have a great time because the bartender was pretty unattentive to us obvious non-locals. Later on in the summer we tried again and discovered Julie and loved her! She along with the other girls always play great music and we never had a bad time here. We were asked to leave because the owner thought we had minors in our party. We all had our IDs. Our average age in our group was 25. She was rude and began to kick other people out of the bar that she thought were part of our group. The other group was so confused that we had to clarify to her that they were not part of our group and that they shouldn't be kicked out. Stopped in for a drink on a Saturday night, it wasn't super crowded and we found two seats at the bar. Luckily noticed before sitting down that the two stools and surrounding floor were covered in vomit. Gave the bartender a heads up about it and she seemed ticked off at us, then barked at us for our order. She became even more annoyed when we said we'd try and find some (clean) seats before ordering a drink. Beautiful old building with a gorgeous old bar. But yikes, stay away if you are not a local. my husband and I are both generational Montanans and love dive bars. The Palace is rad and the spot if you're looking for a rad dive bar. Super cheap drinks, four pool tables, and they have a stage but they never have live music which sucks. I NEVER cry, but somehow a BARTENDER made me cry last night. I came in at "last call" and ordered a shot of Fireball. A really nice bartender took my order. She was also taking an order for a few guys who ordered some shots as well. She accidentally gave me those shots instead of my one shot of Fireball I ordered. I told her they were for the guys at the other end of the bar. In the midst of that, she forgot my shot. I asked the other bartender for that shot and she said it was "too late". Her name is THERESA and she told me to "get the fuck out". I am 100% sure she was more wasted than everyone in the bar and kept trying to kick me out. Meanwhile, the other bartender kept on mouthing "I'm sorry" to me. Theresa kept on being nasty (and wasted) as I was trying to tell the other bartender what happened. The other bartender understood and poured me my shot. Before she handed it to me, Theresa took it away and told me to "get the fuck out" again. The other bartender continued to mouth the words "I'm sorry". Fifteen minutes later, I never got my shot. Kicking me out for no reason was ridiculous! I will NEVER go there again. read more
