I arrived from Superior, WI and Professor Burrill welcomed me and made me feel like I was one of his student. This would by my gym if I lived here. I'm looking forward to coming back. Things have changed rapidly over the last 100 years in our culture yet very few martial arts have grown with the times. Machado Jiu-Jitsu, created by the famous Machado Brothers, offers a very modern twist on self-defense. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's fundamental fight strategy is to take the attacker to the ground, establish control, and end the conflict on the ground. A startling number of fights will end on the ground. How do I know this? Striking with the hands or feet requires that the distance between opponents is carefully managed so that both can strike on target. The moment one fighter decides to take a step back, or forward, it becomes very difficult for the other person to land quality blows without the proper spacing. Too much distance and strikes can't reach the target. Too little distance between fighters and y

I was able to attend Coach Danny's competition class where we completed a wide variety of drills and different types of sparring to help with tournament prep. Thanks to the team, I was able to secure my first IBJJF gold in Boston a few weeks after visiting. I highly recommend Danny Savery BJJ to anyone looking to start their jiu jitsu journey or to any folks traveling in the area!

I'm 45 years old and not in the greatest shape in the world and this really worried me due to knowing how physical BJJ is. I started my first class full of trepidation and worry. I was immediately greeted by the senior members of the academy like an old friend and I can't say how much everyone was very nice to me and welcomed me with open arms. They helped me with tying my belt and how to properly wear my Gi. Upon entering the mat area Danny Savery himself and all of the other coaches welcomed me to my first class and immediately made me feel at ease. I had heard from other people that this academy is more like a family and they were absolutely right! I can't say enough of how awesome this academy is and how much I look forward to going to class. So if you're looking for a great BJJ academy this is the place. It doesn't matter how old or out of shape you are, you will be able to complete the classes and make a lot of new friends you will consider family! I can't say enough of how much I love this place and if I can do it so can you!

They work very hard to teach the kids respect, discipline and technique while helping build their self esteem. Previously both of my children had taken karate classes at the YMCA and while they enjoyed it, didn't learn very much. The children's classes are taught Sensei Candace, Coach Robin and Coach Victor, Candace's son Sensei Jacob, as well as a few others but I don't remember all the names. Classes are Co-Ed and ages range from 3-13. Typically younger, smaller children are paired up for grappling. Kids classes are held Monday's and Wednesday's 5:00-6:00 and Saturdays 10:00-11:00 am. My younger and older son participates in this class but my older one participates in the adult class as well. The adult classes are held Mon and Wed 6:15-8:15, Thurs 6:00-8:00, Friday 7:00-9:00pm and Saturday 11:30-1:00pm. Women's only self defense classes, anti-bullying classes, and stress management seminars are offered as well. Coach Robin is a licensed massage therapist and offers shiatsu massage, deep tissue, Thai, reflexology and Swedish massage. Sensei Candace is also a Reiki Master and does sessions by appointment only. She has really great positive energy. They also offer children's birthday parties. Prices are very reasonable and you can attend as many classes as you would like. My oldest sometimes goes as much as 5 times a week. He has grown very much in only a year here and is currently preparing to compete in the Naga Tournament in May.

Sensei Candace is one of the kindest people I've ever met. The patience she demonstrates with these kids is amazing. Her calm energy seems to keep them focused and on track. She has a way that makes them want to make her proud of them. She's everyone's ninja mother, lol. Both my kids take classes here. My oldest takes adult and kid classes. They work on strength training, grappling and moves. At first I wasn't sure he was ready for the adult class but Sensei Candace reassured me that he would do great. He has a background in wrestling and is able to use his grappling skills acquired from that. He's learned a lot from the adults and has a lot of respect for them. He struggles with ADHD and this has really helped him with self control and focus. Her prices are extremely reasonable considering how many people she has on staff and how frequently you can attend classes. It's a great jiu jitsu school for adults and children.

As a female, at first I was super intimidated walking into a class full of guys grunting and shouting, but was relived to see more and more girls after each class. Coming to Muay Thai became something I looked forward to each week and felt accomplished when I improved on form or technique. Each class is different so it always feels fresh while building upon things already learned. Jaimeson and Num are awesome and take the time to break things down and give you 1-on-1 instruction within the group class setting. More importantly, they make it fun while still challenging and teaching. The progression and testing system helps you be motivated to hit progress goals, but chill enough for those looking to do it with no pressure as a hobby/exercise. Jaimeson is also really great at checking in with you when you fall off your practice - which is nice to have to stay accountable. I will miss Burke's and wish I had been able to train here for longer before moving!
