Nights were chilly but great for stargazing, and we could walk to the Starlight for dinner (past the graveyard!) and El Posada Milagro for breakfast. High Sierra was a stone's throw away as well. You can't beat the location. I found the communal shower more appealing than the one in the trailer - more elbow room and fabulously hot water to warm me up on chilly mornings. The first time I stayed with friends in Betty a couple years ago, and just a few nights ago I slept out under the stars at Betty's former campsite (Betty moved up the hill). I just have to mention that the little shower house (full bathroom) was just a few steps away from my campsite and it was clean and comfortable to use! Even though the main road is just on the other side of the berm, there is no traffic at night and so I enjoyed the crickets, silence, and warm night breeze. I fell asleep while gazing up at the Milky Way, swinging gently in my hammock. We spent the weekend staying at Bubble 2 at Basecamp. The original plan was to use base camp to go…read moreto Marfa and Big Bend across two days but we ended up spending both days in Marfa. It's about two hours from Marfa to TeraLingua so I would not recommend it. It's more of a stop enroute to Big Bend. If you have an EV, note that the nearest Supercharger is in Alpine. The turn off into base camp was a dirt road with several steep hills. No issues with any well maintained cars but just be aware. The whole area seemed like a scene out of Mad Max with the tipis and junk vehicles around to be honest. A ways down the dirt road was a turn off that was the parking area for Bubble One and Bubble Two. Bubble two is the more secluded one because nothing is viewable from the other bubble for the walk way towards the bubble. The bubble itself as well as the fire pit is secluded from eyes. Bubble one, you can see the fire pit from the walk way. The bubble is actually two bubbles, one for the main bedroom and one for the bathroom. Main room had the AC unit, queen sized bed, two end tables with lamps, two chairs, and one coffee table. The entry way "or airlock" had the Kruger coffee maker, Berkey water filter, and mini fridge. The quality of the furnishings is very nice. It didn't seem cheap or dirty at all. The bed, pillows, and comforter were soft and luxurious to the touch. The toilet looked spotless and the shower area was super clean. Definitely fits the definition of Glamping! Now the thing that everyone comes for -- the amazing view! At night you can see all the stars through the bubble overhead as you lay in bed! If the moon comes up it will diminish the visibility of the stars. Moonless nights are the best for star viewing. The bubble faces east so we got to see the colorful sun rise, although blocked partially by mountains. I highly recommend this as a relaxing experience, especially if you don't like camping outside.

Cynta, the owner, is warm, funny, wise and SO helpful in sharing the history of the area and making recommendations of what spectacular adventures there are to be had in Big Bend National Park! The views from the outdoor daybed and the patio couch are AMAZING. We even decided to stay home one day rather than venture into the park, because we enjoyed relaxing there so much. When we got back to the room after eloping/taking pictures, Cynta had decorated the room with flowers, towel swans and prosecco. I was absolutely not expecting anything like that and it was really touching that she went out of her way to do something special for us on our day. Cynta is an absolute angel! We also loved being able to walk to the Starlight Theatre for dinner! I could literally go on and on about the perks of this place. We can't wait to visit again soon and stay in the Main House with our family!

Even being an hour after their office closed, on a Saturday, they did get back to me and were able to accomadate me for a day trip. Ernesto was a fantastic guide and their whole crew put in a grade A effort, making for a wonderful trip. They showed us some spectacular places I would not have ever seen on my own. And to add to it, their prices were fantastic. I would highly recommend using them for their river guiding services if you're looking to take a trip down the Rio Grande. A one-to-two day trip is a must if you are coming down to Big Bend.

But there was a heavy rain two days before our trip so we were very lucky to be able to do this. The booking is very easy, receptionist always returns your call. And our tour guy is so funny and kept us entertained all day. We didn't have to do anything just sit back and enjoy the view, he does all the work for us. There are small rapids but nothing would rock the boat. Highly recommend this route since you are cruising through international river and one side is Mexico one side of the canyon is America. It's just amazing to see the canyon from the water and with changing scenery throughout the whole trip.

She also escorted us to the Boathouse bar where the locals hang out to enjoy not only draft craft beer, but music by locals such as Butch Hancock and Jimmy Dale Gilmore. This was our first visit to Terlingua, and thanks to Jenn and her yurts, I am ready to go back. If you're planning a trip to Big Bend, I would suggest giving this place a try if they have availability, as it's right outside the park entrance.

That was also pretty cool. It's not for everybody but it's really good for us. The rooms were clean with a good location to hit Big Bend. I would be 3 for 3 but when I was planning this week's trip, I couldn't remember their name to make a reservation.

With that experience, I can honestly say this is the most "budget" place I have ever stayed at -- but unfortunately not in a positive sense. The room was extremely basic: two beds (one of them broken), a TV, a fire extinguisher (!), a sink, and a barely functioning toilet. That was essentially the entire furnishing. The windows were kept shut with wooden sticks, and the front door was so poorly fitted that it repeatedly blew open during the night, even when locked. The most serious issue, however, was cleanliness. There was a strong, persistent smell throughout the property -- a mix of damp basement and chemicals -- which caused us allergic reactions and remained in our clothes even weeks later, despite multiple washes. The room appeared not to have been properly cleaned for a long time, and we found several dead insects. After leaving, we also noticed live insects in our luggage, which we had not experienced before this stay. Unfortunately, the staff did not improve the experience. We did not feel welcome and there was no sense of hospitality. Interactions were distant and uninterested, and at times downright uncomfortable. There was no apparent willingness to assist or make our stay more pleasant, which is disappointing, as smiles and good service can often compensate for limited facilities. By contrast, one of my best stays ever was actually in a sleeping bag on a mat in a cave in the Tunisian desert, where it was the hosts, not the facilities, who made the experience truly memorable. We prepaid for a long stay, but after just one night, we decided to leave. Rather than returning, we chose to spend the rest of our vacation sleeping in our small rental car, which felt like the better, safer, and cleaner option. That decision probably says it all.

The Mariscal lets you see the sunrise every morning either from the bedroom window, patio, or fire pit area. The sun comes up over the Chisos Mountains (You can clearly see the Mule Ears from this spot) and it is absolutely amazing. The quiet and solitude of our stay was amazing and slightly eerie lol. It just took a day to get used to the quiet. The house is very small but has everything you need for 2 people: full kitchen, shower, outdoor grill, 2 TV's, wifi, etc. The firepit each night was my favorite part as I enjoyed a bourbon or 8 each night after hiking all day in Big Bend. The only issue is making sure you do NOT use GPS to get here. Follow the directions they send you or you will end up in the wrong location. The road up to the property is a little sketchy and rocky but you get used to it pretty quickly.
