Biscuits and gravy for daaaaayyyyysss. On the third floor of Bella Patina tucked into a corner is Paint d Rooster, a sweet gem of a breakfast and lunch place. In addition to biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs we also got a cinnamon roll and the pumpkin cake. I was a little skeptical since they were Saran wrapped but they were moist and fresh. My husband was thrilled that they don't use nuts since he is allergic. Plenty of seating & people were willing to share large tables. It is family owned & run. The grandma who helps to run it said that everything is made "with butter & love."

A linden gem in Bella patina on the top floor tucked in the back. This is a family owned spot with great prices and service that'll warm your heart. Take a load off and refuel as a reward for making it through all of the antique finds of the day!

This adorable place is located on the third floor of Bella Patina in the west bottoms. They are there the first weekend of the month. It is a mother and her daughter and son-in-law is the chef. Mother is the baker. The have a few sandwiches, breakfast burritos, quiche and biscuits and gravy. Everything is made as you order. We had breakfast burritos. Hands down best in KC. They are just the right size with hand cut potatoes, cheese, tomato, egg, big chunks of sausage and a hint of cilantro. Tortillas had to be homemade. And of course being made there on a stove you can custom make your burrito. They had hibiscus water today and it was delicious. They serve Blip coffee and it tastes like you were at Blip. Very smooth. There is plenty of seating and you can shop around while you wait. Very sweet family.

Quaint breakfast/brunch/lunch spot, situated in the midst of antique finds. Grandmother, son, daughter and granddaughters are as sweet as honey that embrace you with outstanding customer service and delicious food with a hint of Latin flair.

Decent little breakfast nook when my wife wants to vintage shop. Breakfast quiche and burrito were good as was the coffee.

If you're not ready to have your life changed by a biscuit the size of a small child, turn back…read morenow. Denver Biscuit Company in KC does not come to play. These biscuits are stacked so high and loaded so heavy, you'll need a game plan, a fork, and maybe a pep talk from your server (who, by the way, is probably the nicest person you've ever met before 10 a.m.). Let's start with the Bloody Marys--absolute perfection. Spicy, savory, and went down easy! Pair that with the fact that my biscuit sandwich came out looking like a Jenga tower of delicious chaos, and I knew I was in for something special. The first bite? Fireworks. The last bite? A fork fight at the table over the remaining crumbs. One of my sandwiches came dripping with sauce like it was starring in its own Food Network slow-mo reel. The other was a crunchy, tangy, biscuit-lovin' masterpiece stacked with perfectly fried chicken, cabbage slaw, and dreams. This place is not for the faint of appetite. You will leave full. You will need a nap. And you will already be planning your next visit before you even finish your drink. 10/10. Bring your hunger, your friends, and stretchy pants.

They had several cocktail sweetheart- themed drink specials. Brunch was delicious - everything was so good. Huge portions. The biscuits were huge and delicious. It's a carb lovers dream. Situated in the base of a beautiful brick building, Messenger Coffee is a wide open, airy, bright and industrial space featuring all the classic coffees, a great assortment of house curated drinks, along with a solid selection of homemade pastries and other foods plus a good variety of novelties, bulk coffees and a few other items. The space is laid out well with the ordering counter and retail on one side and seating on the other, but it doesn't stop there...their open air industrial kitchen where all the goods are house made takes up over half the space, and is surrounded by barstools that give you a front row seat! While I loved the space, the coffee I got is easily one of the best coffees I have had anywhere...like, no joke! I went with the seasonal Iced KC Sweet Smoked Honeybear and it was absolutely delightful! Balanced, sweet, a tad smoky and tasted like the nostalgia of a honey graham cracker! Perfection. Service was great as well. The barista helped me out with selection, shared details of the drinks and made it a good interaction. Once I tasted the coffee, I knew it was a special spot, so I got back in line and grabbed a koozie so I'd remember far beyond the coffee! Overall, top tier coffee shop that I highly recommend!

I didn't see the water, and slipped and indeed fell quite hard. I'm youngish and spry, and was able to bounce back, and am just sore and achy. But nobody made any comment to me or expressed any concern (other than other guests). I in fact had to report the incident after flagging someone down, and nobody offered as much as an apology or asked if I was ok. I'm honestly glad it was me rather than an older person, as the outcome could have been rough. The food at McLain's is consistently good. I don't care for their coffee or espresso, but it's just not to my taste, I don't think it's poor quality. Bottom line, I think they could work on their soft skills regarding their guests (particularly when potential injuries are on the table). That said, do get a chicken salad sandwich from them. Maybe just order it to go...

Seating might be full, but there's both counter seating in the open concept kitchen or tables on the other side. A lot of people rave about their breakfast burritos or breakfast biscuit sandwiches. My out of town guests love them too when I bring them here. I'm here to rave about their weekend only croissants. You can only get them on Saturday or Sunday because it takes a days to ferment and laminate the dough. The quality of their ingredients shines in even the simplest plain croissant. I'll occasionally venture into the chocolate or almond version. They rival some of the best I've had in NYC, SF or Paris. In KC, the only other rivals can be found at French Market or Sour Rabbit Bakery. I'm glad their croissants are weekend only so I can have them as an occasional treat. I find their other pastries, especially the tarts, biscuits or scones are also lovely. For a baked goods focused spot, I'd say their cold brew is also pretty great quality as well. Usually I'd go to another coffee shop for a fix, but I'm okay grabbing both a croissant and cold brew here. I haven't been for their "after hours" dinner specials, but that's next on my to do list there!
