I was looking for a stylist to give me a long pixie, with an undercut with highlights. When I called Aalon Avalon, they squeezed me into a slot that was open same day. When I got there, and their Master Stylist was able to review and get an idea of the style and color I was asking for . He was very thorough and able to explain in detail how they were going to style me and told me they have an opening I. 45 minutes. . Specialty cut and color can take about three to four hours for the coloring part to get the right color and based I. What was explained to me, I was pretty confident that they were really going to do an amazing job with my help. When I got back, I was late for the appointment but they didn't sweat me, since they just got done with the previous customer and needed to set up the station. When my stylist was ready, she was very sweet and really took care of me to make sure I get the cut and style I requested. The vibe of the salon was very personable and easy going. I really enjoyed the time care she put in to working. When she completed my hair, it looked exactly as I wanted. It was like 20 pounds was chopped off my head If you're looking for a good salon that is really proficient with specialty cuts, this is the place to go. Thank you, Salon Avalon for the time, patience and care you put into me and my hair.

The stylist I saw has since left this salon…read more Originally I emailed Sixteen Eighty Eight through Yelp with my formula and they confirmed they were able to do it, which was great news since I've had trouble finding someone who can follow my formula in Walnut Creek. They matched me with a stylist and I came in on a particularly cold rainy day. The first issue I noted was that they didn't use heat to process, which my formula calls for. Although I've had other salons use wet heat to treat, using no heat was unusual. Beyond that, I noted the stylist would make comments where the tone sounded friendly, but the words like, "your hair is so long, do you ever cut it," were a bit rude. By the end of the visit it was clear she didn't particularly like me, but my hair looked fine under the lighting, so I tipped well and left. What followed has literally never happened to me in the four years I've gotten full root coverage. The color leeched out of my hair - as in, within a few days, all coverage was gone. I don't know what she used, but after a week it didn't look like I'd gotten my hair done at all - my best guess is that because she didn't use heat, it didn't process correctly. I just don't know. I've sat on this review trying to decide how I feel about it, but I definitely always now confirm my formula has to be processed with heat and I've gone back to my old salon in Berkeley even though it's a bit of a drive.

I received a Japanese thermal straightening service from the owner, Billy Ho. My first appointment…read morewith him gave me a beautiful result with a mirror shine, but I got caught in the rain right after, so we had to do a retouch. While sitting in the chair for the retouch, he told me he would try his best. Based on the last results, I trusted him completely. During the chemical processing, he pulled too hard on my head while doing stress tests. I had a three-step Hime cut, and he asked if my other stylist who cut it was Asian. He asked where she worked, where she went to school, and if it was a school. I told him I would just send her portfolio info.I explicitly told him that I am terrible with a paddle brush and a blow dryer. Despite knowing this, he still sent me home damp with a wet underside and told me to dry it myself at home. It took me an hour and a half to get home, where I continued to sweat for another 20 minutes. I spent four hours after just trying to get the kinks out of my hair at home because it dried funny. My hair is perfectly straight, but the entire length from the root down is not even close to being as shiny as it was and looks terrible, with a frizzy spot in the back and on the side. In person, the difference is night and day. He got the kinks out, but he also got the blinding shine out. I paid for this service in cash. My halo shine is completely gone from the first treatment, and I was told it's unlikely that it'll come back without major moisturizer all the time forever on those lengths and I'll need rebonding treatments, but it'll never be quite the same again.I am giving three stars down from five because of the retouch. As long as you don't get caught in the rain and need a free retouch, you'll probably be fine. I'm still in shock, I know he said he would try his best, but he didn't guarantee anything either, I trusted him completely. and implicitly While going above and beyond to try and protect the style, even staying up 30 hours so I didn't get creases. At least it didn't melt off. This was my first and last treatment. I don't think I'm going to do this anymore. I am a very patient person, which Billy commented on as well, but I don't quite know how to handle this. I am completely gutted and a little bit heartbroken--that is seven years of my life, and the first thing that I cared about after my illness was getting my hair fixed. I should've left well enough alone, a little flat iron daily, but caveat emptor.
