After a quick wash, she went straight into blow drying my hair with no heat protectant. Then, she sprayed some product directly on my scalp (?), added some heat protectant, and proceeded to flat iron my hair. This was odd to me, as it is typically standard to finish a trim with a nice blowout. I also specifically asked for layers, and they weren't really touched. The attention to detail was just not there, especially as I left when I noticed the center back of my head was not fully dried. My appointment was about a week ago, and I initially was like "just let it go". But honestly, that was a waste of time and money for such mediocre results

From the very beginning, we shared a few laughs, and she gave the most incredible head massage. It set such a relaxing, positive tone for the entire experience, and I already felt so cared for before we even started the cut. As soon as she began working on my hair, I could tell I was in amazing hands. The techniques she used showed such skill and intention--I could actually see the vision coming together, which gave me so much confidence and trust in her. That meant a lot to me. When she asked to style my hair at the end, I was genuinely impressed by how much she cared about every detail. I absolutely loved how my hair turned out, and I felt so good walking out of the salon. Beyond her talent, I'm truly grateful for how comfortable and welcomed she made me feel. The conversation flowed so naturally, and the whole atmosphere was warm and inviting. I tried to use yelp to find the best and many would not even return my calls. Fast forward to this past week. I thought I would give yelp one last ditch effort and chose to call Capsyl. It was a Wednesday evening- after closing time, so I did not expect a call back until the next day. It wasn't even 5 minutes later that my phone rang and I spoke with Kelly. She told me that Rebecca just received a cancellation and could get me in on Friday morning. To say I was stunned is an understatement. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. Once in Rebecca's chair, I could tell she "got me". She listened to my ideas, looked at the photos I brought in and chatted with me about her thoughts. Then she got straight to work. She was easy to talk to, we had a few laughs and she gave an AMAZING head massage. Once she started cutting my hair, I knew she knew her stuff. I could tell the techniques she was using were creating the look I was going for. She styled my hair and I really loved it. (I very rarely like how stylists do my hair after a cut and color) Her prices are very reasonable and the conversation is great. Solara is located on the middle level of the Del Mar Plaza - with an attached parking garage so there's no need to fight for street parking. Bonus - parking is validated at the salon. My husband actually started seeing Tracy for his haircuts before I came in, and he had glowing reviews. Soon after, I made my first appointment and there was no turning back. Tracy took the time to really understand what I was looking for and my overall goals for my hair and hair care routine. One of the most important steps which is often overlooked by stylists is letting the client know if their expectations are realistic, healthy for your hair and the maintenance in keeping up your preferred style - Tracy didn't skip a beat and I knew from the jump what my upkeep needed to be. We have since built a relationship where she just knows what I'm looking for and I trust that my hair is going to look amazing. And it's the perfect blonde! I got a cut…read moreand color from Katee and while the color was fine (though not much different than what I started with), I am very unhappy with the cut. I have long hair and always get a subtle cut with long layers which I emphasized to her prior to any cut being done. Truly not a crazy or difficult request. I told her that my hair needs to be long enough to all fit into a ponytail or top knot bun and she said yes definitely. Thinking back now she never asked me how short I wanted the layers to be at their shortest, which every stylist has always asked in the past. Regardless, the subtle haircut I wanted ended up as more of a chop with a weird section of blunt short layers in the front that look truly awful. They do not blend well and are too short to stay in a ponytail when pulled back. I gave it a couple weeks to see if things would even out after the freshness of the cut wore off, but it still looks just as bad and I'm devastated knowing it'll take so long for these pieces to grow back. She told me that she guarantees her work but she can't make my hair grow back and I'm not trying to cut more.. I expected more from a senior stylist with senior stylist level prices. $420 later for a cut I'm unhappy with and color that looks about the same as before. And minus another $18 for parking because she did not validate my card correctly I guess and I had to pay. The vibe of the salon is fine, the people who work there seem to be nice, but I would not recommend this stylist. One other issue I had was that I booked for a cut and partial balayage to stick within a budget I was comfortable with. Katee ended up doing a full balayage and charging me accordingly (appropriately so)- but the issue is that before rendering the service she did not ask for approval (or even tell me) that she was going to do full instead which lacked professional transparency in the context of such an expensive service. Note: the photos emphasize the cut but the color is not true to life due to the indoor lighting where I took the pics.
