I am fairly particular when it comes to finding the right salon and hair stylist - I typically go a time or two then fall off the face of the earth because I'm not happy with the work, but since discovering Tracy at Solara Salon (formally Haim Salon) I am back on a regular routine and have never been happier with my hair. Solara is located on the middle level of the Del Mar Plaza - with an attached parking garage so there's no need to fight for street parking. Bonus - parking is validated at the salon. My husband actually started seeing Tracy for his haircuts before I came in, and he had glowing reviews. Soon after, I made my first appointment and there was no turning back. Tracy took the time to really understand what I was looking for and my overall goals for my hair and hair care routine. One of the most important steps which is often overlooked by stylists is letting the client know if their expectations are realistic, healthy for your hair and the maintenance in keeping up your preferred style - Tracy didn't skip a beat and I knew from the jump what my upkeep needed to be. We have since built a relationship where she just knows what I'm looking for and I trust that my hair is going to look amazing. And it's the perfect blonde! Looking to make a change and find a new stylist / salon - I can't recommend Tracy and the ladies at Solara Salon enough! You'll walk out feeling like a million bucks! read more

I'm not one to leave negative reviews but I feel inclined to share my experience here. I got a cut and color from Katee and while the color was fine (though not much different than what I started with), I am very unhappy with the cut. I have long hair and always get a subtle cut with long layers which I emphasized to her prior to any cut being done. Truly not a crazy or difficult request. I told her that my hair needs to be long enough to all fit into a ponytail or top knot bun and she said yes definitely. Thinking back now she never asked me how short I wanted the layers to be at their shortest, which every stylist has always asked in the past. Regardless, the subtle haircut I wanted ended up as more of a chop with a weird section of blunt short layers in the front that look truly awful. They do not blend well and are too short to stay in a ponytail when pulled back. I gave it a couple weeks to see if things would even out after the freshness of the cut wore off, but it still looks just as bad and I'm devastated knowing it'll take so long for these pieces to grow back. She told me that she guarantees her work but she can't make my hair grow back and I'm not trying to cut more.. I expected more from a senior stylist with senior stylist level prices. $420 later for a cut I'm unhappy with and color that looks about the same as before. And minus another $18 for parking because she did not validate my card correctly I guess and I had to pay. The vibe of the salon is fine, the people who work there seem to be nice, but I would not recommend this stylist. One other issue I had was that I booked for a cut and partial balayage to stick within a budget I was comfortable with. Katee ended up doing a full balayage and charging me accordingly (appropriately so)- but the issue is that before rendering the service she did not ask for approval (or even tell me) that she was going to do full instead which lacked professional transparency in the context of such an expensive service. I've been seeing Lauren for 3 years now-going to haim for a total of 5ish. Getting your hair altered in any type of way is fun-but scary. Finding someone you really trust is hard. Lauren has been with me through thick and thin (literally). I shed a good percentage of my hair a couple years back due to hormonal changes, and she has helped me keep my hair goals of length and health... wether that's product recommendations or figuring out the best plan for cuts. She is so talented in color AND cuts; I never leave the chair unsatisfied. She really listens to what I want and executes it amazing every time...especially when it comes to making sure my hair cut looks good straightened and naturally curly. Ana is amazing, not only does she accommodate my busy schedule,when able, she also works to maximize my color so there is less noticeable regrowth. Ana's cuts grow out beautifully, which is a major plus because I am an extremely busy mom with work, school, and kids. I recently moved to San Diego (from LA!) and after experimenting with a couple of local salons, I have finally discovered/landed on my place, my people, my atmosphere in Haim Salon. The salon itself is super premium, thoughtfully designed and yet intimate. Tracy (my stylist) is excellent and every staff member I've encountered is pleasant and friendly. I had a terrible experience at this salon. I asked for a balayage and the stylist completely just bleached my hair. Not only was it not what I asked for but it looked terrible. Patchy and orange. When I got home and realized how bad my hair actually was. When I put it in a pony tail it looked like only half my hair was dyed. I called the salon in tears. They refused to take me back until 3 days later. I had to goto another salon to fix my botched hair that same day. When I asked for a refund, the assistant manager Christina was VERY rude and hung up on me. I called back and received my refund. Will NOT be back to this salon. read more

The photo that I attached with this review will speak for itself. But just in case you want the details of my botched hair experience: I have a very important video shoot tomorrow so I needed to have my blonde roots done. My normal hairdresser cancelled on me this AM so I called around and Haim salon had an opening. The salon has great reviews but I didn't see any for Kara in particular but I did specify on the phone that I need someone who is an expert with blondes and the person scheduling assured me that she was. I do want to say that Kara is a very nice person and I feel bad to write this review -- but I feel MUCH WORSE that I look like an orange highlighter exploded on my head. I should have been tipped off when another woman who worked there came by to ask her what she was doing with my hair and when Kara answered I could tell the woman seemed a little concerned saying "Are you sure that's gonna work?" and then someone else came by when I was getting rinsed and I heard Kara say "oh, don't worry, it will look fine once it's dry" She then proceeded to reveal my BRIGHT YELLOW/ORANGE hair and said "doesn't it look great?!" She honestly was going to let me leave the salon like this and thought it looked good!!! That is the part that pissed me off the most. If she would have said "look, I messed up" then that's one thing and I would have been understanding (it happens), but to act like it looked good is just not acceptable. It was so bad that I instantly burst into tears. Never in my life has my hair looked this bad, I have never ever cried in a salon. And let's not forget that I have a VERY IMPORTANT video shoot tomorrow and this royally screws me over. The front desk woman could tell I was very upset and said "oh just let her try to fix it" How about no. Why on earth would I trust her to "fix it" when she is the one who ruined it and said that it looked great!! I would never in a million years let her or anyone else from that salon ever touch my hair again. read more

I was recommended Shawna at Haim Salon for my blonde pixie haircut because I needed quite a bit of work with reshaping and color correction from my previous salon visit. I could not be happier about the work that Shawna did. I literally walked away from her and said "You are magic!". She has been in the business for 30 years and is every bit as sweet as she is talented. She gave me a very thorough consultation, cut and colored my hair with no mistakes (as far as I can tell), and styled my hair better than anyone ever has. She has a believer in me, that's for sure!! Haim Salon itself was lovely, the staff was very nice, and Haim himself was there and very welcoming and complimentary of his stylists' work. Ana Boggiano Luepton is gifted with hair! I've gone to her twice now and won't trust anyone else to do my hair from now on. (I have long, super-thick, semi-curly/wavy hair that can be challenging to get right.) She understands what I ask for cut/color-wise. My first visit she helped my growing-out color look more natural and I loved how she cut my hair to be less heavy/bulky while adding long pretty layers. THE BEFORE: I was desperate! I had a really bad bleach/dye job (from a different place) that completely ruined my hair, the color was blotchy, uneven and just an horrific brassy orange yellow, with hot roots and all! (See before photo) It affected my confidence, and at that point I decided it was going to get fixed... even if it meant for me to just pour black dye over it! I knew I was not going to start the week with that unkept looking mess of hair. (Little confession : I almost had a Brittany moment and shaved it all off!) I came to my senses and did some research and I read that Haim Salon really prides itself in preserving the health of the hair, and that they use quality organic products. I immediately called attempting to explain my hair situation and I was ecstatic to get an appointment! There was a light at the end of the blotchy bad hair tunnel! My hair fairy was Tracy. GETTING THERE: I was not aware of the multiple locations so I drove to the Aviara Resort... checked in for my appointment but, I was at the wrong location! I was seriously almost in tears thinking I was going to miss my appointment. But the staff at Haim Salon at Aviara was as cool as a cucumber, made a phone call and asked if I wished for Tracy to come to this location, and informed of the approximate wait time... I asked if she would wait for me, and if so I will drive to the correct location. She said YES, and I drove. Got lost in the parking garage (thought I mention this) and Tracy literally came to flag me down and finally I made it to the salon. Amazing customer service from the get go! I am now finally sitting on the transformation chair! TRACY, TRACY, The Hair-Fairy... I can't even explain how chill and attentive she was at the same time. We talked, she examined, analyzed, inspected, talked some more, analyzed some more and came up with a plan of action. "Operation - Saving Annalisa's Hair" was in full effect! And what of an operation it was, a multi step full on color correction. Tracy was straight forward and honest, I was so please that for once someone was direct, she didn't over-promised and under-delivered... aux contraire my friends, when she was done working her magic, YES MAGIC, my hair looked insanely good, from color, to cut, to style ... my mind was blown! THE AFTER: I felt so good, so confident, I was strutting down the street with my hair was flowing in the breeze like a Beyoncé music video! Tracy saved my hair, she did minimal trimming as we are growing it out, she truly listened to everything I had to say, worked on me for 3 hours and had a smile on her face the whole time! She is a super witty and just has a fun energy! The whole staff was super friendly, the whole vibe at the salon was warm, cozy, and just welcoming! Liza has magic hands....seriously. On two occasions, I brought her a disheveled mop to work with, and she turned the mop into a chic and classy touch-up cut (it was done in a pinch, I did not have time for a full appointment) and got me through professional photos without embarrassment. Today I saw her again for a real cut and style appointment, and I had just been to the pool...my hair was trashed and frizzy, and when I left people did a double-take. I did too, when I saw what she had done. My haircut was so amazing, will be easier to style from here on out, and my hair was glossy and smooth again. I can't thank her enough for always going the extra mile to make me look nice, and can't wait to see her again for a new look soon!! Updated January 2019 Been to Liza for 3-4 times now, each time satisfied and have recommended friends to go to her. I usually get a bob or lob, which is hard to get right because I like them even with no stray hair. Today I noticed Liza rushing through the process. Usually she takes 1 hr to wash, cut, and dry my hair...today it took half of the time. Maybe she was working faster, I was feeling sick and didn't pay attention. But I noticed a lot less cutting and the whole thing finished before I know it. She usually cuts it wet, dry it, and do more cutting. Today there was a few minutes of trimming after she dried my hair. I thought she was going to do more but she was all " we are done!" When I went home and really took a good look at my hair, it's a little bit crooked. And my right side had a piece or hair sticking out extra long after I brush it. I cut it off and tried to even it out with some manicure scissors. Her price also went up by 15% since I last went. I get it...inflation, more experienced, etc. I still tipped her 20% upon leaving. Kind of expected the quality to continue or get better with the raising price. Not sure if I will go back again. read more

The salon is a bit hard to find (it's in the Del Mar Plaza); you just have to walk a little through the parking garage to a different area to find it. read more

I was thrilled to find out the beautiful Nicolette Nightingale had landed at Haim Salon in Del Mar. I quickly booked her first available appointment for a new full set of extensions and could not be happier. Nico's highly talented and I have had several stylists install my extensions in the past however none can compare to her abilities. Though I knew I was more then happy with the results I waited almost a week to write this review just to be "sure". Nico conditioned my short hair before installing 33 sandwiches of 20" platinum blonde tape extensions. I don't know exactly how she installed them but they do not pull, tangle or show. They lay perfectly and look as natural as can be. I can pull my hair up without anyone seeing any tape lines whatsoever and at the same time they are completely comfortable. She also used a unique technique to give me a custom cut which blends the extensions with my natural hair just perfectly. I left feeling fabulous and can't wait to have Nico bleach my roots in the near future. I absolutely trust her and highly recommend her to anyone! read more

I was able to make an appointment yesterday at the Haim Salon and was very (very) pleased with my experience! Laurence was my stylist and did a fantastic job! To make the experience more fun, I decided to cut 12 inches and donate to 'Locks for Love'...Haim took care of everything including the speedy delivery to 'LFL'. I will certainly be back! I've been looking for a stylist since my arrival back in San Diego two years ago, and I've finally found her.
