I had my first appointment with Ashley and am thrilled with the results! I'd been with my previous stylist for 15 years but was excited to meet Ashley and get her help with my 59 yr old hair. I've been dealing with hormonal shifts for the past couple of years and had broken hair in the back that just doesn't seem to want to grow out no matter how careful I am! She got me on a plan of washing every other day and once a week, going 3 days. She also suggested that I not use the curling iron on the ends of my hair since once hair starts breaking, it tends to keep doing that and the heat doesn't help! It turns out wrapping only the healthy parts of my hair results in quite a cute hair style as well so needless to say, I couldn't be happier. I LOVE Vixen Beauty Lounge and my stylist Lesley for so many reasons! Lesley is super flexible and accommodates my schedule (even when I change it on her every other month.) She's very fair on pricing and is reasonable when it comes to stretching my color or cut a little longer. Vixen has a loyalty program where you can earn free services when you rack up a certain number of points. The cut and color always looks AMAZING! I get a ton of compliments every time I get my hair done. Lesley and the Vixen crew are all just really nice people. They have a nice little snack bar with tea, cookies and other little treats. My sister was the one to discover Ashley at Vixen Beauty. One summer my sister came home with the most gorgeous caramel Balayage. My sister and I have dark brown hair so it's really hard to get our color to look blended, but Ashley nailed it. I went in myself and received delicate and well blended babylights, which completely changed my look to a softer look. Ashley is super fun to talk to and adjusts to the social energy of her clients. Lesley saved my hair and scalp! I have been battling bad buildup on my scalp for 2 years. I've tried every shampoo out there, asked tons of hair stylists, got acupuncture and nothing worked to fully clear it up and it would dry my hair out terribly! Then I went to Vixen for a haircut and met Lesley. She did an amazing treatment on my scalp, removed all the buildup and recommended a shampoo that was not even sold at the salon. For the past few years I've been bouncing around different salons throughout San Diego trying to find the right fit after my old stylist moved away and I am SO happy I landed at Vixen Beauty Lounge! First of all, I have to say that Lesley was great! She is very personable and she really knows her stuff when it comes to hair. She listened to what my vision was and then educated me about the best way to achieve the look I wanted with my specific hair type. My cut turned out wonderful and my hair feels so healthy and refreshed. I also received a handwritten thank you note from her in the mail the next day, and those are the type of little details that make a big impression. The salon is beautifully decorated and has such a cozy feel to it with lots of natural light and plants. I also love that they use Davines haircare! I decided to re-stock on some of my favorite Davines products on my way out of the salon and was able to get an extra 10% from their "roll the dice" promo, so that was a nice surprise :) Overall, I would say that they truly have a focus on creating a lovely customer experience. With the boutique setting, the attention to the small details like thank you notes, coffee & tea and snacks for their clients, it really creates a great environement that you can't always find at larger salons. I have had the hardest time finding a great stylist. Two stylists that had been referred to me never returned my voicemails. Frustrated, I turned to Yelp and found Vixen. Ashley, the owner, actually answered the phone and had a very friendly phone presence. She was able to take me within a few days and did a great job on my cut and color. Unfortunately, my lowlights weren't as dark as we thought they would be, so she redid that portion of my coloring today and it came out great! I've been coming to Vixen for a few years now. I've got long, mid-back multi-color blonde hair and all about looking natural but I've referred friends who have dark hair and also some who want to get crazy color creative. I love that Ashley is a color specialist who does continuing education, is incredibly knowledgeable, and uses quality products. I've had conversations about what we can do so my hair looks fabulous but that I can truly afford. Per her suggestion, I do a base break and cut every other appointment to elongate my color between partial highlights. Twice a year, I do a full highlight to make sure the underneath back still blends. This was done simply to support my budget. She is funny and real, also easy to talk to and not judgy, so your time in the chair is a cool experience. Before Vixen Beauty Lounge.............. - My trusty stylist of 17 years said, " Yes of course you can have hair like JLO" - uhhh not by her skill....I had a total of two bleach processes and I think a total of two or three toning or color corrections. I went back 4 times to correct the "not even close" to JLO hair. I finally said- forget it!! I was talking (whining) to a gal about my hair just in casual conversation. She offered that I go see a gal she knows at Vixen Beauty Lounge in Solana Beach. I was like- uhhh that is too far for me. She said- actually with no traffic it is about 20 minutes. She said Ashley does GREAT HAIR!!! To be honest - everyone says that about their stylist- BUT, what had me wondering is this gal's hair was BEAUTIFUL and I thought maybe our definition of great is close to the same. So my daughter came back in town for Christmas Break while I was undergoing this fiasco. She arrived with her hair faded from that weird Fire Engine Red everyone was doing to a now faded purplish color. I did not know what could be done but I thought- maybe this Ashley gal could fix her hair. I knew I would not be sending her to my regular stylist after the Jennifer Lopez Disaster.!! - My daughter can write her own review ( where she will accuse me of making her the guinea pig ) but Ashley was able to take that color out somehow- " magic fairy hairdresser magic"!!! Once I saw that i said ok- I will try her out. Ashley Color corrected my hair~ ! Yes I will post my disaster pictures after cropping out my unhappy faces. SOME KEY POINTS - Ashley is punctual - knowledgeable - friendly You feel comfortable with her in the first 3 minutes of meeting her. She delivered results better than I expected and her prices are affordable considering the area -I anticipated a higher price. I drove to Solana Beach for my service from North Park. On that Saturday, there was no traffic. For these results - I would and will drive in traffic and I HATE TRAFFIC. I am so happy I found her! Oh and yes the salon is super cute ! If that is what is important to you - but for me THE SINGLE one, most important thing is THE RESULTS. Lovely girls. The salon is cute and charming. Leslie is so sweet and chill. The haircare they use is truly amazing, my hair is so soft and not at all frizzy the day after! The luxury shampoo is my favourite thing in the world! It's a full 10 minutes of massage when you get a deep condition too. She personally uses Dyson hair dryer and that outcome is amazing. We did a luxury blowout, blow dry and style. She did the lost perfect beach waves I ever had professionally done. I love this place!! I needed a haircut ahead of having a new picture taken for my website and was so lucky to find Lesley at Vixen. Ashley squeezed me in the week of, and even though I generally hate having my hair cut, it was such a lovely experience! Lesley looked at the photos I brought, talked me through my options (the haircut I wanted would take a couple cuts to achieve so we discussed long term and short term hair decisions), and made me SUPER comfortable. Lesley and Ashley are great hair dressers that really know what they're doing and listen to their guests. I have been so fortunate to have found this salon after several years of first trying places closer to home. Worth the drive.
