Lisa pointed me to some new things and then opened a conversation with me. She helped me pick out great gifts for my friends and I really appreciate how warm and kind she was. Went into the store to try to find a concealer that had been previously purchased from this location, but a couple of years ago so it is no longer carried. Layla was very helpful, but Emmika was extremely rude and immediately dismissive, arrogant, and rather than trying to be helpful she appeared to be bothered by the fact that we were even in the store. Layla on the other hand was much kinder and willing to assist. I made an appointment for a Skinceuticals event at Bluemercury Del Mar, only to arrive and be told that the brand never sent any support and canceled last minute. I received no notice of the cancellation -- just a reminder for my appointment the day before. A total waste of time. The store associate blamed corporate and the brand, but that doesn't excuse the store's failure to notify customers. Between the lack of communication, poor customer service, and overpriced, limited selection, I'm done with Bluemercury. This kind of disorganized experience is exactly why their stores keep closing. Stopped in a couple days ago when a trainer was showing a new person the ropes. I wanted to sample an expensive cream before I bought it because my daughter had received a sample at the same store and loved it. The trainer put a tiny amount on my hand and said she can't give a sample. I explained I had rosacea on my face. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. I just stopped at another store and they did it no questions asked.. The samples are so tiny so not sure what the trainer was trying to accomplish. I even shared my daughter and I were regular customers of the store...I would change my rating to one star but don't want to penalize the other staff that are extremely nice. read more

I don't understand this location. I have been a Blue Mercury customer for longer than anyone else I know. This location seems to have no motivation to be anywhere close to where their value proposition supposedly lies. It's supposed to at least offer more than...IDK....Sephora? Anyway, any time I ask for something that I readily find in the NY and LA locations, I get blank stares (and in the case of the newest addition to their team, somewhat annoyed "hun?" cluelessness for shattering her bubble of ignorance, even if it's about the few products they actually carry). So I have been coming here to get their m-61 products and most of my other beauty brands/products for years. Since it's easy to get in/out, close to my house and I have always loved the people who work there and their advice and reward system. Used to have great sales every few months too. I'm not sure what has changed at the corporate level but it is not for the best. Because all of that is GONE. Or maybe it's just the new manager? They hired all new people and got rid of the two women/manager who had been there for years. Both women fabulous and looked like they were prior supermodels who took care of their skin their entire lives. So felt like I could trust their advice. They never tried to oversell and gave excellent advice. My skin never looked better thanks to them. The new guy I LOVE too and he's amazing, so helpful with make up and skincare tips that I ask for, beyond polite about it and he doesn't try to sell me things I don't need either. He is everything a sales person and good human should be. Perfect skin and style too. That type of service and kindness is why I have kept coming back all of these years. I'm happy he's there at least thankfully. However, the NEW manager, she's blonde and nice enough... on a surface level, but not genuine at all. I have tried to give her a few chances now, but she ALWAYS tries to shamelessly/obviously upsell me products that I don't need and are like triple the price of and amount what I've been buying for years. Or redundant products. She just wants to sell you whatever she thinks you will buy. Bad make up selection included. Also offensively, she told me yesterday when I asked why don't they carry Charlotte Tilbury? That she had told supposedly CEO of blue mercury people had been asking for it and were told no. She said "they don't want to attract the young girls in here, we want to keep blue mercury with our current clientele." I'm assuming that means older clientele? I'm technically their current/loyal clientele and not exactly young?? So I told her that Charlotte Tilbury products prior to going viral on Tiktok have always had an older following and that was a mistake. (She should have known that) That's pretty insulting to be ageist, and the obvious wrong sales approach for a few reasons. She also doesn't give any samples except like one random thing either? Which okay fine, if I hadn't/wasn't a loyal client for years who spends several hundred dollars every month. But, if I spend $400-$600+ then you should probably give me more than a single exfoliating pad? Especially if I already buy the 120 pack every other month?? Regardless, I don't like the idea of shopping somewhere that wants to keep younger or any certain type of people out. The rewards system has changed as well, in the past if I spent $600 I'd have at least 20-$50 off the next time I came. That's gone. i was doing some shopping in the plaza and overheard a big group of girls heading into blue mercury, and overheard the manager and workers being really rude and neglecting service towards these girls and saying that they were closed, two hours prior to their scheduled closing time. We were walking into Tilly's and I saw a large group of people being rudely talked to by the manager and the associate working that night around 5pm. They were rejecting the service of those customers and were rushing them out of the store saying they needed to make a reservation with the store owner if they wanted to stay in the store. The manager said that they already clocked out and they needed to get to their sick dog. And on top of that they were closing a couple hours early. They do not work for skinceuticals so if there is something being advertised on that line's website we wouldn't have any knowledge of that. The trio was an item that was not carried by our store , not in our inventory. I never heard of Bluemercury before, but I was glad that I stopped by while killing some time at Del Mar Highlands Town Center. They have a great selection of cosmetics, skin/hair care, and fragrances. They have many of the same brands you would see at Sephora or Nordies, but without the trek to a mega mall. The associates there are also wonderful to work with and were very helpful. And I've always received free samples on each visit. Definitely a nice find here in Del Mar! read more

I had an excellent experience shopping here today. I love the selection of prestige products and the store is SO clean. I feel like like most Sephora stores have turned into sticky, messy, ransacked and pillaged shells of what they used to be. Blue Mercury is the antithesis to Sephora. I was helped by Jessica. I told her what I have recently been using and why I wanted to replace it. She had great suggestions and could quickly tell me the pros and cons of the brands they carried. Within 10 minutes she had found the perfect shade and formulation for my requests. She was not pushy at all, in fact, she could have suggested more merchandise and I probably would have purchased upon her suggestion. I felt I could could trust her expertise and experience with the merchandise. Lastly, I was offered 3 free samples (I chose SK-II essence, Peter Thomas Roth mask, and YSL mascara). That was a nice touch that most online retailers only offer, and Sephora you have to use "points". read more

I have have been in several times each time making a purchase. I must say that for a retail skin product store that sells above average priced items, they do not have exceptional sales staff. They are barely interested when you walk in. They give you the required "let me know if I can help you", but no matter what question you ask they barely help and/or don't seem interested. They actually act pretty snobby, which I don't understand. Today, an older woman came in asking for help and the guy didn't even flinch. He just let her look on her own. I felt like i should have intervened and helped her. The taller blonde woman is the same. When they ring you up it's like they are doing you a favor. My daughter graduated from highschool last weekend and we wanted to go the whole nine yards. Hair! Nails! Make-up! We decided to check out a newly opened salon/spa in the Del Mar Highlands plaza called Bluemercury. It was the best choice we could have made. The young woman's name was Angela and she applied Megan's make-up so beautifully it was incredible. She worked her magic and the results were the best of any experience we've had. She knew which colors to choose for my daughter's skin tone. The final outcome was soft, natural but still noticeable - exactly how we requested. I highly recommend checking out this new business. It was very clean without being sterile. The associates were friendly. The make up application was reasonably priced. ($45.00) The experience made the whole evening that much more fun. read more

Went in to check this store out.. wanted to buy some makeup and a friend wanted to buy a bottle of perfume. What a shock to find out they do not accept cash.. what the heck? Even though the service here was fine ... I will never shop in a store that does not accept cash ... NEVER ! A "cashless society" allows the banking system to manipulate us all. There was also an amazing promotion for spring if you bought 125. worth of cosmetics (no problemo here lol) so I got a super sampler of new things to try as a gift with purchase. Being a "product junkie", this beautiful store is absolute heaven to me with so many amazing products and awesome brands to choose from. However, the BEST thing about Bluemercury in Carmel Valley is their aesthetician, Aimee Cochran. Aimee is truly fantastic and gives the best facial treatments I have ever had. I've had two appointments so far that have included micro derm, mini peele's and an oxygen treatment (highly recommend). Both times I left there, I couldn't stop staring at my face and skin in my rear view mirror the whole way home because I couldn't believe how great it looked and felt (especially with no makeup). I can't wait until my next appointment! This was an amazing experience. I always get my eyebrows threaded so this wax was a first. I don't know her name but the woman who waxed me had blonde hair so I recommend her. I was really afraid to get them done but it was nearly painless and it was a really pleasant experience. After trimming and waxing she told me to take a look and when I asked to thin them out a little more she was happy to do it. Will definitely be coming back. read more

I will never go to this store again. I was on my way out of town and needed a bottle of foundation. I went in and bought the foundation and a mascara. I didn't open either product, but packed them both. The next morning I opened the foundation and the jar looked used- there was no makeup in the bottle- it looked like a store sample that was empty. I called the store and told them and asked if there would be any problem returning it/ the salesman told me no and to bring my receipt. Two days later, when I was back in town, I went to the store to return it. I walked in and explained to the salesgirl (same one who had sold it to me a few days before) what happened. She didn't say anything, but went and brought back a tall blonde woman, who i assume was the store owner. Both women kept saying they'd replace it for me "this time". I didn't understand why they kept saying this- I said it was like this when they sold it to me. They didn't reply and when they handed me the replacement product I said "thank you"- the sales girl walked away without saying anything. I was really confused about why they had been so rude, until it dawned on me that they must've thought I substituted an old bottle of make up and was lying about what had happened. I was humiliated. I called corporate headquarters to report what happened. They apologized, but this was such an awful experience, I will not buy anything from them ever again. I suspect they either have a salesperson who is stealing from them (by putting old bottles into the new boxes) or the store is cheating their clients by substituting old sample products into boxes and selling those to their customers read more
