I asked the receptionist if I could have a mask and her response was that she wasn't allowed to give me one until I was called back to the care area. I thought that was a weird rule. She wasn't exactly pleasant about it either. I had close to an hour's wait, which was fine. It had to be better than waiting in the ER. From there, I was greeted by a very nice and friendly tech named Heather. She took my vital signs and a bit of a history and then took me to an exam room. She told me there were 4 people ahead of me, which I appreciated being informed of that. She was very kind. Then a nurse named Brenda came in and collected my history. She was also nice and informative. Megan, the NP, then saw me. She was also nice, calm, and helpful. One thing that they could do to speed things up is carry tablets or laptops. They used paper and pens to write everything down and then would have to transfer all of that to their EMR system. I'm sure this would help cut down on patient wait time.

All of my experiences here -- to see a couple of specialists and to get some imaging -- were good. I don't know whether the cafeteria I visited was the main one or a minor dining establishment, and I can't describe where I was, but the transition time between breakfast and lunch couple have been better. I wish more of the offices validated parking fully. Only one did. The others did at 50%.

I called SLUCare on the search for a new Primary Care Physician, and they happened to have an…read moreappointment open with Claire Shapleigh in a week, which is uncommon for primary care. I did a quick google and decided to go ahead and check her out, she is a Physicians Assistant which I actually prefer. I saw the same Pediatric Physician my whole life, then switched to Family Medicine where I was another 9 years, so I've been anxious to find someone new in St. Louis where I recently moved. I'll tell you what, Claire didn't disappoint. And to be honest, I think I like her better than my Pediatrician AND first adult physician combined. She was warm and inviting, listened to everything I had to say, had great advice, and was super knowledgeable. She's also trained on Pap smears, so for the women out there, check her out, she's a one stop shop. She would be an amazing provider for anyone. I could go on forever about how amazing she is, but you're just going to have to check her out yourself. Since SLUCare is associated with St. Louis University School of Medicine, the doctor you see consults with fellow professors, and instructs and mentors students. I think there's a lot of competency and accountability built into a connected system like this, and that makes me more confident about the quality of care I'm receiving. Of course, sometimes it means that an extra doctor or medical student is sitting in on your exam. This may not feel so wonderful if you're shy. In my case, when a couple of young doctors peel back my privacy gown to check me out, it just means I have more material to weave into the tall tale I tell my wife. During last week's visit, I started out with obligatory stops at stations for insurance-billing, registration, and nurse medical history review. Then, since my last dermatologist recently moved out-of-area, I was introduced to Dr. Tarbox, whose manner was just about the best I've ever experienced in a physician. She immediately made me feel comfortable, really listened to me, did the full-body skin check, explained thoroughly what she was seeing, went away while the nurse pricked the needles in to numb me up, then carried on a pleasant conversation while she sliced and bandaged my face and neck. After about a week, you can look at me and not cringe - I am no longer hideous!
