When you have a spouse who likes reading as much as mine does we are always on the lookout for a source for adding new stuff to our bookshelf. That puts us here. A midsized store, crammed with shelves and packed to the rafters with books on a wide variety of topics. Prices were about 1/2 retail, with some others less than that. I found a bunch of books to cross off my reading list. Plus a decent selection of kids book for the grandkids. They also buy books. No purchases today. But I'll be back with books from my library to sell for new ones. read more

I would give 5 stars but recently the staff have sorted their books into so many categories that browsing is no longer fun nor efficient. mysteries are now in 6 categories and fiction in two: regular fiction and historical fiction. I asked the staff what constituted historical and was told anything about pre-1960. however, it was not clear whether that meant written before 1960 or about pre-1960. What about books that cover multiple generations but end in the present? Also, as I browsed, I found books in fiction that should be in historical and versa. Browsing for mysteries is now a nightmare with all the subcategories. Staff should reconsider their approach. read more

A new and used bookstore, complete with a rare book area and gift shop. The store is laid out by reader age and genre, so children, YA readers, and adults won't have an issue finding books. An associate asked if I needed help while I was browsing, and then the associate up front let me stack books behind the counter before check-out. Both were friendly and helpful. The only two suggestions I would have are I'd love to see thrillers parsed out from general mystery, and then I'd love to see an LGBT romance section; there's paranormal romance and then general romance with LGBT mixed in. Overall, a nice store to browse with a good selection to browse through. I found three used books I had no idea I needed, and the total was only $12. read more

I love this bookstore. It's what bookstores were like when I was growing up. I love the kid selection for my granddaughter, and I can always find unique books for my daughters classroom to follow her curriculum. If I'm looking for unique titles or books to appeal for special gifts I find it. I love the local authors collection! It's just a good nostalgia of books. read more

Page 1 probably has the best selection when it comes to local bookstores in Albuquerque. Overall the store is organized very well and I love the front area where there are so many different themes to help you find some interesting reads. This last time I went in I think it was Mystery Book Week according to the round table in front of the cash register. They also have a great selection of used books, I do wish there was some way of telling which copies were used though before pulling them off the shelves. I prefer to buy used most the time because those copies are more affordable as well as it's a great way to make more sustainable choices. The used books are all mixed in with new copies so you kind of have to do some digging. Parking is available but the lot is kinda set up weird. The little shopping center that it's in is always busy and has a ton of random businesses. read more

This is a great bookstore! They have a wide range of genres and a mix of new and used books. It's also organized very well - the sections are clearly marked and sorted. I especially appreciate the large alphabetical signs separating authors by last name. Another little thing I noticed - when I was looking in the fiction section for a book and couldn't find it, I saw a sign that reminds customers they have a classics section (which I had missed). It's the little things. Some bookstores make it so hard to find what you're looking for - Page 1 is not one of them. Page 1 also highlights local authors, which gave me the opportunity to pick up a book written by someone from Albuquerque. So cool! The Antiquarian section is so cool to explore. I collect different editions of a specific book and was thrilled to find a bookstore that features an entire section dedicated to older editions. I didn't find anything the day I went, but will definitely be going back. They had a staff member there as well, and she was very friendly. Note that this section is only open during specific hours. Page 1 also has a membership program - you pay a one time $5 fee for access to coupons and rewards. The staff member who helped me sign up told me they had recently moved away from paper coupons to save paper - great to hear! read more

The bookstore is ok-their local section is good and I love their battle of the books section (even though it's in the back). Their local section is easy to find and well stocked. Honestly however as a parent that tries to keep their kiddo engaged I wish they would support kids reading more. The gentleman (loose term) at the buying counter is extremely rude and dismissive and rarely takes even the most perfect books while the used options for kids is slim. The staff in the back is usually wearing earphones and clearly annoyed at being disturbed with inquiries. It's definitely not the bustling community bookstore it once was. read more

Ermahgerd this was such a WONDERFUL place to turn a speciality bookdealer loose! Their Southwest section was full of desirable Texana (my own specialisation) and I walked out with ten items averaging $10 each to take back to my own little shop. If I hadn't already spent myself out earlier in the trip, I would have glommed onto even more. read more

I adore this local bookstore. The staff is absolutely brimming with expertise and geniality. The children's section is fantastic - I found a copy of the back ordered book I was looking for *in stock* and was able to order an additional three from the clerk. Using the "forever coupon membership token" you can get $5 off a purchase of $30 or more; definitely worth it when ordering gifts and holiday presents. The half-off section is great. They have a buy/sell desk and will give you either cash or store credit for your used (or new, I suppose) books. Patronize your local bookstore and you'll enjoy the experience, I promise! read more

HUGE book store, amazing collection of new & used, antique book section (only open during certain times.) I hadn't been able to review before because my first time ever there was too close to closing and their buy-back wasn't open. That was the whole reason I'd gone, so I didn't have anything to report on. Have finally shopped there now, and oh no this store is dangerous!! New and used are mixed in together, so often you'll have your choice if it's a popular book - hard covers, paperback, brand-new, previously read. Prices are good and books are in great condition. One area I think they could REALLY stand to expand on is their foreign language "section". It's paltry. And they turned down my friend's German language novels, so they aren't actively working to expand this, evidently. Membership is $5. Not required in order to shop there, but you get a membership token good for $5 off any time you purchase $30 or more, so definitely worth it! Great book store. Highly recommend! read more

I asked for a book today, while complimenting this jackass about this corny jersey he was wearing (just tried to be nice to him) and he had the nerve to make a politically pointed comment about the book I was inquiring about. Unbelievable. I don't see this place making It - they've already down-sized and they now hardly carry the same amount of used inventory as they once were known for. I was a bit disappointed, upon moving to the area last summer, in Albuquerque's other independent bookseller and somehow didn't realize Page 1 existed for several months. Thank goodness for this bookstore though. Huge selection of books, very friendly staff. Unlike the other bookstore in the area, this one has a great selection of "genre fiction" but the classic fiction is great too. Walked away with a tome of a horror novel (Michael McDowell's Blackwater) which was selling for about a third of the price it is on Amazon and two NYRB books (my weakness). The super friendly gentleman who rang me up offered a few excellent horror recommendations and said there's high turnover in the store, so I'll make this my bi-weekly browsing spot. read more

Whether you're stopping in quickly to pick up a new release or you're the kind of person who likes to browse all the way to the back of the store, this bookstore is great. They have both used and new books PLUS a big rare books section with some very cool antique books... I believe this section is only open sometimes so call to find out if you're going just for that. I especially appreciated their selection of books about New Mexico history, regional guidebooks, and a whole table of Southwest inspired literature. I went here today to sell 3 books that were $35 each when I bought them. They gave me a whole $8.50 for two of them. The man who's name was Courtney was EXTREMELY rude. I went to the counter, he rudely says, "put the books down right here." So I did and was waiting, then the jerk says, "go look around the store, I'm not gonna look at them any quicker with you standing there." I was so shocked at his rudeness I said, "excuse me?" He repeated the same thing. So I walked around and finally he was done looking at my books which were in BRAND NEW condition, I had never used them. When he told me I was getting $8.50, I politely asked, "$8.50 for both books?" He then shoved the books right back at me and said very rudely, "you can take them back right now if you want to." I will NEVER buy any books from this place. Rudeness like his is totally unacceptable in the work place. read more

This bookstore is a pale shadow of the old "Page One, Too," but it seems to be as good as it gets as far as New Mexico bookstores go. Apparently they couldn't support the business model of having an acre of high-quality used books under one roof in addition to a new book store, so now there are new books with a thin admixture of used ones. I used to be amazed at some of the apparently-new 1965 paperbacks (where did they come from, and sometimes multiple copies!). Now I am rarely amazed. But I still stop. I suspect my grandkids will not be taking *their* grandkids to a physical bookstore, so go while you can! read more

After calling to verify they provide appraisals, we took books for valuation. After waiting more than 25 min, we were told "we can't use any of those books". Well that wasn't what I asked for. The employees were aloof to the point of rudeness. Obviously didn't listen to our request. He was busy scanning books & never gave his full attention. I honestly should've gotten names here, because it's rude to go with descriptions, but I'll make do. There were three older gentlemen working at the same time, two of them were helpful enough but weren't very friendly. The third was a very nice guy with a white beard who was a pleasure to talk to and was very helpful. I really like Page One, with Hastings closed there isn't a place to get quality used books in Rio Rancho so I drive all the way uptown specifically to go to Page One. I don't see it as the hipster exclusionist place that the "professional yelpers" are whining about, being a customer entitles you to nothing, quit projecting your entitlement. Anyway, thanks for being around Page One, glad to patronize your business. read more

While I do love to patronize this local independent book store, and often call to have them order books for me, I would caution anyone to think twice before becoming one of their vendors. I was so thrilled - initially - to have them carry my copper jewelry and hand-painted Mandala rocks, but that taste went sour fast. While I understand there was some management change during my time, communication - even by email - was poor and organization was lacking. It took a few months to finally settle my account with them and get paid my commission, at which time I decided to pull my merchandise. read more

I love this new location in the Mtn run shopping center! It's smaller but definitely not as waspy as their prior locale off Mont & Juan tabo. So, come to find out they don't offer chair massages anymore :( but that's cuz their space is much smaller. They do have awesome online coupons tho so be sure to print those or else stop by the front register. & tell 'em ur printer is busted, lol Since it's their 33rd anniversary they are hosting all sorts of deals all month long-April, so be sure & check it out!! I love that this store offers teachers a 20% discount on their new inventory.. How awesome is that??! read more
