OK so we were staying at hotel, so it made so much sense to get breaky here and WOW the view is STUNNING. the glass did a great job of protecting us from the wind too. The bagel was very standard. it's deconstructed so you can put it together how you like. The omelette was ok! the potatoes were the real star. Only a few things this go, but it would be nice to try the dinner. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and $$$$. ( *w*)b

Magnificent ocean view ,beautiful weather . Great service . Menu has breakfast and main entries . Coffee and drinks . We ordered the clam chowder $12 and it tasted so delicious . We have the Point Lobos crab cakes Benedict ( tasted great with large lump of crab meat into a cake , avocado and hollandaise sauce, breakfast potatoes and English muffin ) and Cioppino stews ( lots of big prawn , giant squid, mussels , fish and scallops. The broth was too fishy for me ) The view is breathtaking! Very enjoyable lunch with nice ambiance.

We stayed at this Hyatt highlands where this restaurant is situated in. Great place with great views from this restaurant. It's a high end place with high end service. We had reservation so seating wasn't an issue. Service was top notch. Food was equally good. Not sure when we will return here but whenever we wi, we will come here for our meal..

We stayed at the Tickle Pink Inn a few feet away so it was nice to have a nearby restaurant that was steps away from where we were staying. It's located inside the Hyatt hotel. If you're driving, there are a ton of parking spots. The restaurant is large and can accommodate various group sizes. We made a reservation but it wasn't too busy on a Wednesday night. I'd definitely want to come back during the day to enjoy the view. There aren't too many vegetarian options on the menu, but I'm sure they could accommodate your dietary needs and modify a meal. Service was great and the food was good.

Stayed at the hotel and was treated to free breakfast due to my Hyatt reward status (Globalist). The views from the restaurant are stunning if you get a table against the glass. Service was friendly and efficient. The Crab Cake Benedict was very flavorful. You can actually taste the crab. The French Toast was delicious as well, with a hint of cinnamon. The Avocado toast was a bit sad. Had only a smear of avocado and the dish needed something more so I ordered a side of potatoes.

Service and food here is always great and you can't beat the views. Reservations are a must if you want to catch the sunset. Valet parking is free if you dine in since parking is limited and mostly taken by hotel guests. The property is also very stunning.

Chris as our waiter Friday night and yesterday (Saturday) Frederic was our waiter. The service is professional and attentive. Both nights we had great service, food, and drinks. The ambiance was sophisticated yet convivial. Where you can celebrate a big event and yet it is comfortable. Frederic provided insight in the wines in the area and checked in on us both nights while we were at the table as he has been out waiter in the past. Chris also checked on us on Saturday welcoming us back from just seeing us on Friday. I know we have many dining options in Carmel but I really like the dining experience here and the convenience of ordering a bottle from the menu and taking back to the room for a night cap on the patio outside.

WONDERFUL PLACE, I recommend doing a reservation just in case. Even though we had a reservation we waited 20 min. Food was a top notch, everything that we ordered was just so amazing, clam chowder, breakfast and burger . Great view, tables by the window available.

Late Birthday celebration since my husband and I were apart for work. I picked this place for the views and food. It did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a nice lady ( wish I asked for a name ) she went above and beyond to get us the table we wanted. Thank you ! Ohhh the views were amazing, food was delicious. My favorite was the clam chowder. Our waiter had a calm soothing lovely demeanor and personality I loved that . Establishment was also clean and well maintained. I do suggest reservations, and valet park your car for hassle free experience.

Wow, where to begin. Major kudos to Rosemary for her amazing service during dinner on our first night stay. We made it too late for the epic meal views, but sitting down and having dinner with the family in such a beautiful restaurant/getaway spot was a great moment. First, they had menus that lit up when you opened them..I meannnn, that's def a first for me! Ordered the Espresso Martini to start, with Frito Misto, the Super Seed Caesar, and bowl of Clam Chowder with Bacon (and bread) for the table. We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes for the baby (his first!) and he loved them, so naturally we knew the full meal would be delicious :) I loved that the Frito Misto came with a fun variety and a bit of different offerings than at other restaurants ~ this one included rock shrimp, artichokes, yams, and calamari. The Caesar also had a bit of a different yet dreamy dressing and crunch, and the chowder was perfection. Next course was the Burger (double patty) and the Pan Seared Pacific Halibut. Beautiful presentation, but definitely needed to-go boxes for the room. For breakfast, we were able to finally see the epic views ~ and WOW, just draw dropping. The Big Sur Platter (comes with chicken apple sausage and bacon, eggs, taters, toast) is hearty and comforting. I will have to write a separate review of where we stayed, but meal wise, the food at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands was so great, it was refreshing to know that if we didn't want to leave the pano Pacific Ocean views we didn't have to.

William was a great server for breakfast. Expert photo taking and gracious with his service. We had the Dungeness crab cake eggs Benedict & the Big Sur breakfast. The coffee was excellent and so were the juices (tomato, orange, and grapefruit). Second breakfast here was equally good. Walter was fantastic and so warm and friendly. Make your own omelettes and the raspberry crunch pancake were delicious. Amazing views by the window - the seats are first come first serve.

Beautiful entrance!

This was an experience that you have to do at least once if you come to Carmel. This restaurant is in the Carmel Highlands Resort which overlooks the ocean. You eat by the windows and you get to experience a spectacular sight! The service is really amazing and you get it served with a chilled container of half and half cream. The service is way above the norm and the breakfast was good. You pay for the ambiance and the view. I had eggs with chicken apple sausage and bacon and the eggs were cooked to perfection over- medium the way that I like them. The menu has a great amount of variety and they say the pancakes are awesome! Be prepared to walk a little distance up and down the hill if you are a guest and not staying as a resident of the resort. Our goal is to come back and have dinner! This place is where you go when you want to have an experience with a view!

Best place to spend your time in Carmel (between golfing & gallery hopping)…read more If you want to feel local-ish, go here. I drove hundreds of miles for this place. (You should too.) Parker (the owner) is the real deal--passionate, witty, sometimes sarcastic, and genuinely fun. The cozy bar is surrounded by ever-changing photos, art, and laugh-out-loud signage. Stories live here: wall to wall, corner to corner, and everywhere in between. Locals and travelers exchange stories, play dice or cards. The drinks are beautifully basic--three ingredients, one of them ice. No fancy nonsense--just premium pours, neat or on the rocks. *And now the gut punch: they're being forced to close the same month they're celebrating their 100-year anniversary. The new building owners don't seem to care about the character and legacy of Carmel, the devotion of a fourth-generation owner, or what it means to lose a place that's thrived for a century. It's heartbreaking--for locals and travelers alike. Go while you still can. Last call, and cheers to everyone who's loved this place--"where everybody knows your name." XX

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the homemade bread--light, fluffy, and piping hot, it melted in our mouths and set the tone for the rest of the evening. We started with the calamari, which was especially impressive with its crispy coating--definitely not soggy! The roast beet salad was another standout; it offered generous chunks of fresh beets, perfectly balanced with savory flavors. The artichoke dip was unique, featuring ground artichoke instead of the usual chunks, making each bite rich and smooth. The French onion soup was a delight, loaded with gooey cheese in every spoonful--comfort food at its best. For the main course, the fish and chips stole the show! With three substantial pieces, the fish was flaky and incredibly fresh, proving it was far from the frozen variety you might find elsewhere. We also enjoyed happy hour drinks and food, enhancing our experience even more. The service was impeccable, making us feel well taken care of throughout the evening. As a bonus, we enjoyed an open mic night (a.k.a. karaoke), where talented local musicians entertained the crowd while others sang along. The lively atmosphere created a great crowd and added to the overall enjoyment of our visit. In summary, Shearwater Restaurant offers delicious food, excellent service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. We can't wait to return for another unforgettable meal!

Nothing about the drink or dinner menu was too wild or stood out as unique. Considering there are many interesting dining establishments in the Carmel area, I felt like Shearwater Tavern upheld their standard in a foodie town by sourcing local ingredients and craft beers. The artichoke dip pays tribute to a local crop and was pretty tasty. The serving was generous, so we were grateful to our server for providing some extra sourdough for scooping up the last of the cheesy, warm dip. Oh, and Wednesday's are half off bottles of wine! The restaurant was situated away from the hotel common area to allow for a more intimate dining experience but still close enough to the lobby and rooms for convenience. There were some folks smoking in the parking lot, and the smoke smell was making its way into the dining room. A band was wrapping up for the night as we were being seated, and it seemed like there is regularly live music in the lounge area of the restaurant. The service was friendly, prompt, and food decent. As a guest in the hotel, it was easy to charge the meal to the room. Solid choice for an easy meal if staying at the hotel. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to dine at Shearwater Tavern though.
