I was a signed tenant for Pacific Sunrise for a month before I finally managed to relet the place, and that one month made my first month back at school far more stressful and financially burdensome than it anywhere had to be. I foolishly signed my lease for this place without visiting it - big mistake. The place was undergoing major renovations for a mold problem, neither of which I had been informed about, leaving the place reeking of mold and paint and constantly loud from the sounds of construction. On move in day I was shown to a bedroom with three "floors" composing it - the room was divided into threes steps barely big enough to hold a bed or a desk. I emailed them afterwards to check if this was the bedroom I was actually expected to pay $800 plus utilities for, and they confirmed that it was. I then asked them periodic questions over the next couple weeks under the assumption that this was indeed the bedroom I was expected to live in and every response I got confirmed that this was the case.
Not wanting to live in such a crappy place, let alone one who Pacific Sunrise had lied to me about, I went on to try and relet the place. Of course reletting such a place is virtually impossible, so after two weeks I went back and visited the leasing office to discuss my lease. They informed me that my actual room was a regular room and acted incredulous that I was under a different assumption, even though I had been asking them questions under the assumption of a three staired room for two weeks! Awful communication and rude management - the leading manager lady treated me like I was a moron. After two more weeks, after the prime reletting season at the start of the school year had passed, I finally managed to relet the place to a grad student who would be spending most of his time studying on campus and only needed a place close to UW to sleep in. I lost over a thousand dollars because, in spite of being lied to and enduring the incompetence, lack of communication, and rudeness of an awful staffing team, I was still financially obligated to pay the rent that normally would have been due (when I objected they told me they would make the entire lease, over ten thousand dollars, immediately due). They even forced me to pay the reletting fee even though their actions made it impossible for me to relet the place for two weeks and then very difficult for another two weeks.
The room itself was small and the shared living area tiny for four people. Renovations were still going on two weeks after the Pacific Sunrise staff said they would end. Place still reeks of mold and paint. Only positive I could say about the place is that it is a three minute walk off campus. Awful experience, made my life far more stressful than it needed to be, and I now barely have enough money to pay tuition and rent at my new place (which is $300 cheaper and much better). I would not recommend the risk of trying to live here to my worst enemy. read more
