I feel compelled to write this because a lot of the reviews seem either way off, or just really outdated. My wife and I have lived here for the last 4 almost 5 months. And thus far, I couldn't be happier. It's affordable, very affordable compared to most of the other apartments/town homes near by. But aside from that they have really really nice layouts. Pretty much every unit my wife and I checked out we loved. Whether you want a view, a 2 story, or just a cozy spot next to all the amenities on California street, you'll find it at Elan. The staff is also amazing. Carl helped us get approved and find the right unit, his friendliness and attention to detail has been awesome. Any little things that came up as we were moving in he took care of. Parking can be tough but the garages attached to the building are very reasonable. The Safeway downstairs makes picking up little things really convenient, and all the residents are super friendly. The club house, and communal bbqs are super nice. We don't use the bark park, but other residents seem to appreciate that accommodation. Really can't speak highly enough of this place. I love it, and I'd come tour the facility before making any judgements. Some of the online reviews seem to be very outdated. This place is a gem among the other options near by. read more

Terrible property management. Worst renting experience I've had. We've had a hole in the ceiling of our bathroom for six months that was leaking for at least three. They claim they've tried to connect with us to fix the bathroom ceiling but if they had, it wouldn't take 6 months. All I've seen is maybe 3 of different guys come in to take a look, leave and never be seen of again. The handle of our microwave just completely broke off last night from just opening it. Can't wait to see how long it takes to fix that. I manage a condo myself and fix everything the tenants report within a week. We've also had mail stolen and been unable to take the trash out on many occasions because the room is overflowing. Rent at your own risk. read more

The property itself is the most convenient place I've lived with just an elevator ride down and I'm at Safeway. DIRTY and DISHONEST. Run, do not walk away from this building. Dirty- check out the trash rooms in the summer. Flies, trash build up, and a smell of dog pee SO strong it could make you sick by the "dog park." Don't take my word for it, check out the dog park! Make sure you see it for yourself. Maintenance goes unanswered. Leasing office is at best completely incompetent and at worst complete liars. They have screwed over people's deposits, lied about lease renewals, and have been overall shady. That's if they're actually in the office! Liz and Carl are some of the worst people I've had the misfortune of interacting with. I've lived at about a dozen buildings in forty years- this is THE WORST! We lived here from 2015-2016 and moved back a couple of years later to be close to work. Location is great, but management of the property leaves much to be desired. A WORD OF CAUTION: Read the fine print on the lease contract with great care. The rents/utilities are posted on the 1st of every month, and you have until the 3rd to make the payment. If you miss this even by a day or two, you will be required to payback any one time concessions that you received. Management is unwilling to budge in making exceptions. They do not send out reminders, and this almost feels like a setup. read more

I've lived here for 2 years now and couldn't be happier. The location is great (walking distance to tons of restaurants, parks, grocery stores, buses). The property management team is always so helpful with whatever issue we have. Also it's a great place for kids. My children love going to the clubhouse to relax, it's always stocked and they love popping their head in to say hi to Alma, she's so sweet to them! Overall it's been a great place to live! We lived here for three years and were very happy here. The location can't be beat and is super close to frequent transit (RapidRide C, 50, 128 and others) as well as great restaurants, grocery stores, and other shopping. Alma and the rest of the property management team were nice and always very helpful. The biggest downside was the trash rooms - most of the blame for this goes to residents not collapsing their boxes, throwing garbage in the recycle bins (dog shit? Kitty litter? Really?) and the hit-or-miss presence of compost bins. But it got noticeable better in the last year or so. I'd definitely recommend checking out Elan 41 for anyone looking to live in the heart of West Seattle for a more affordable price than all the new construction nearby. read more

Elan 41's location at the Junction in West Seattle is what makes this community. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of change over - from property managers to property management companies. This caused several communication problems and facilities/grounds issues; the community as a whole became less desirable to live in as time passed. Whereas some communities may have community events - raffles, tenant socials, Halloween parties, etc - Elan41 had none. Like apartment prices all around Seattle, the increases to rent prices at Elan41 became untenable, especially when viewed from a cost-to-benefit perspective....there just aren't enough benefits at Elan41 to keep you. I would live at Elan41 again, it wasn't horrible - I would just have it further down my list of choices when making a selection in West Seattle. read more

Location of these apartments is fantastic - I've been here for a year and a half now. If you don't like living in the city and hearing constant shopping carts (Safeway below), honking, and homeless people yelling outside your windows...it's probably not for you. I really loved the old property management company, Laura was absolutely amazing and you can tell she took extra pride in the place. The new AMC Property management individuals are EXTREMELY nice, but the appearance of the place has really gone downhill. Simple things are being missed - the cushions on the outdoor seating are always in disarray (no it's not from individuals messing them up from the night before), the propane in the gas tanks for the grills was out for nearly a month, the trash room is constantly overflowing and the solution has been to put recycle bins in the common area that are always overflowing and quite frankly - look trashy. The outdoor area was constantly up kept by the old management company but now they seem to let it go for weeks. It REEKS of dog urine - I'm not sure how the old management company handled this but it was never an issue. Just in general there is a lack of organization and general upkeep. If I was touring the place as a prospective renter these would all be large red flags for myself. Our rent didn't increase last year - but with all of these issues mentioned above, and a definite increase of the rent prices online, I may suggest other options when looking at living in West Seattle. This place is convenient, and pretty nice for the price, but it's slowly creeping up into not being affordable for the lack of care that is happening. Update: They have added new seating for the patio and gas grills and heaters that are really nice. Propane was still a common issue during major holiday weekends. My biggest gripe is simply the trash issue that really didn't exist when the last property management team was here. I know the team works hard - I'm just not certain they are getting all the resources they need and we live with the symptoms of that. read more

Pros: -Location was great. Right above the Safeway, with QFC and Whole Foods right down the street. All the restaurants in the Junction were a quick walk away. -Views: For the units along 42nd Ave SW, the view of the water, mountains, and sunset were incredible (we were in a 3rd floor unit). Could also see downtown Seattle from the other end. -Staff was quick to respond and friendly. -2 bdrm unit had a nice master and nice closets. Pretty spacious unit overall. Cons: -A bit expensive for what you get. Unit was nice but a bit rough around the edges (had excess primer sprayed all over the place, and consistent leaking sink plumbing). Walls/floors were a bit thin. Common areas were a bit rough too. Not a lot of amenities. You're really paying for location, but you can probably find higher quality units for less $. -The contractors that did the annual cleaning of the windows missed our main living room window, so even though we had a nice view, it was unfortunately mostly always blurred from the foggy outer pane of the window. When we asked management, they said they wont be cleaning until the next annual cleaning so nothing was done. -Despite rents dropping significantly in West Seattle due to Covid and the West Seattle Bridge situation, they were not willing to negotiate rent when our lease was coming due. Ultimately this drove our decision to leave. -Security deposit didn't show up for over two months after we left. read more

I've been really happy here so far. The location can't be beat: you're minutes from downtown on nearby public transportation (express C line to downtown, free shuttle to the water taxi), walking distance to groceries, bars, and cool shops in the Junction, and a short drive or bus ride to Lincoln park and Alki Beach. Covered parking is also nice. West Seattle is a funky neighborhood that I find has a more relaxed vibe than a lot of the other parts of the city. Not to mention great water views and sunsets (when we have them)! My loft apartment has a great city view and feels spacious with the high ceilings. Since this is a block off of California, the ambient noise is pretty subdued so it's a nice place to relax when I'm not out and about. There is currently a rent special going on where you can get a free month's rent, which made the overall cost a lot cheaper than most of the other alternatives in the area that were easily running a few hundred more for a two bedroom unit (if they even had any available). No thanks! The office staff has also been super nice. I'm looking forward to spending the summer in the neighborhood. read more

Moved from across the country and found this place luckily. It had so much going for it: Nice aparment layout for a 2 bed 2 bath, nice location, and decent rent-to-space ratio compared to NYC where I was living. a few months after we moved in, the management company changed one weekend while we were away on vacation. AMC stands for "Apartment Management Consultants" -- and just by the name alone I could tell the personality difference from the previous owners. The first biggest gripe I had was the nice coffee machine in the leasing office, which dispensed freshly ground beans broke down, and rather than re-lease it or repair it for (what i was told would only cost the company $5k), they removed and replaced with a self service k-cup machine. This was really the only nice amenity they had at the time, really. The exercise room was serviceable however it never had any sanitary spray or wipes to keep the machines clean. They started renovations on that and the community grill areas before I left, but they went months of being unusable. Other than that, I'd say the trash areas were much better maintained before AMC took over, so i don't fault the cleanliness on the tenants as others have noted. The whole place is 'smoke-free' but i saw cigarette butts and tenants smoking on the property without consequence. Some of the renovation stuff was being dealt with before I left so I can't speak for how the property looks currently. The location can't be beat, but I will note for prospective tenants that although the Safeway is great and convenient, they have a cleaning crew out in the parking lot running leaf blowers early in the morning on weekends so...trade offs I guess. Overall my neighbors were respectful for the most part and it was generally quiet. I just wish the management company cared about them a little more. read more

Great location and I enjoyed my one bedroom apartment for two years. However, I had incredibly rude encounters with the maintenance guy. I needed a new fridge when I first moved in because mine wasn't staying cold. He swapped with a new fridge but never installed door handles for the fridge or all the shelving. The door to my closet fell out of the hinges he came to 'fix' it. He said he needed two more screws and that he would be back to install them. Never did. I didn't continue to ask to get this things fixed because I did not want this guy in my apartment anymore. One time I didn't break down a box and instead of him just knocking on my door and asking me to break it down or remind me to next time. He dragged the box back in front of my apartment door and left it there. Not saying anything to me. The dog park is terribly maintained. Multiple times I came home and the elevator was broken. Which I don't mind taking the stairs. Except the stair well is incredibly dirty and smells like urine and covered in trash. The propane was never filled for the grills and the very nice grills were never maintained either. Which was quite disappointing. There are many other things I could mention. Overall, I liked my one bedroom apartment but the maintenance to the building is terrible. I should have not felt uncomfortable to ask for help in my own apartment from the maintenance guy. read more

Management does not respond to tenants request for more security in the so called secured tenants parking lot. No cameras. Second breaking in a few months. Last night three cars got broke in. Thousands of dollars in damage. No reaction from the management. If you care about your car. Rent somewhere else. When you pay for parking you would expect your car to be somewhat safe. read more

I've lived here for over a year and I love it!! I acknowledge that the transition from the old management company has been a bit shaky, but I know first hand that a lot of things were dropped by the previous company. They not only dropped the ball on a very major appliance problem for me, they didn't even pass the issue on to the new company. It was quite a surprise when the new appliance finally showed up after six months. I've not been happy with the trash situation either, but it's just as much the fault of the tenants as management. People throw their garbage in and if it misses the dumpster, it's left on the floor, leaking all over. If people treated the property better, I.e., breaking down their boxes and cleaning up after their dogs (especially when they poop in the courtyard), things wouldn't get out of hand. Let's give Bailey and Curt a break, and make sure we're doing our part! P.S. Not sure what's happened, but this once beautiful property is a mess! No communication to tenants about anything. Guess they think posting a notice here and there is enough. I actually posted a sign on the door leading out to Safeway, asking folks to make sure the door gets closed. I looked at nearly all apartment buildings in or near the Junction and Elan 41 is by far the biggest apartment. As a former resident I wanted to take a minute to leave a review of this property. The location in the junction was awesome. Convenience of having restaurants, banks, even being above a grocery store, etc. The property itself was completely secure... never worried about walking in/out of the garage, never saw non-residents on the property. The units are bright and open and CLEAN! Any little issue I had (minor maintenance) taken care of right away. Giving this 5 stars mostly due to the staff and management. They work to really create bonds with their residents and you can see that with every interaction. They are always professional and kind, and make sure all communications are clear from lease signing until move out. A wonderful experience and I wish I could have renewed a year longer. read more

Where to start...lets start with the shortest list first. Pros: Loaction! You are in the Junction; walking distance to almost anything one may need and really close to bus stops. Shared outdoor space is cute and has grills. Lounge is nice and comfortable when the office is closed. Cons: The remodel is cheap cheap cheap! My feet have been stabbed and bloodied by carpet tacks. You can feel random objects under the carpet. The counters are made of a cheap white plastic material that stains very easily. The heaters get very very hot to the touch, which is dangerous for pets and children. The gym is tiny and smells terribly of rubber and has no opening windows; it's like working out in a toxic fume box. The lights are on a timer and for several hours in the evening and the morning I have to walk to my apartment in darkness. The maintenance staff is a constant revolving door. I have seen maybe a dozen workers come and go in a matter of months. Needless to say not much gets done. The back elevator has been in the process of being painted for at least a month. The fob used to get in to the lounge, gym, and front door is notorious for not working. And don't even think about walking through the office to the lounge or gym if the fob isn't working or your spouse/kids have the fob. They must forget we pay their salary. The front entrance changed from a keypad to fob overnight without warning. Speaking of getting in...the key doesn't work well. You have to put it in but not all the way. There is a sweet spot. You may even have to jiggle it and you may not get it to work at all. There is one key that unlocks the entrances to the stairwells and the elevators. It's really fun when you have unlocked one door and walked four really tall flights of stairs to come to another lock, which your key just refuses to open. Also if you're walking your dog and another dog comes along acting aggressive, stepping in to the stairwell is only a good idea if you have your keys because you will be locked out and will need rescuing. AND even though the place is locked up tighter than a bank vault, the lounge and gym are ALWAYS locked even during office hours. The office staff has been less than helpful although there is a new lady whom I haven't dealt with before. Much like the maintenance the office staff rarely stay long. Except one seems like an unfortunate fixture. The price is a bit too high for what you get. Maybe it would be more reasonable if it where a few hundred less a month. They have close to a dozen empty unites and multiple people are breaking their leases early so maybe they should consider lowering the cost. And the view, or the lack thereof. I moved here from out of state, sight unseen and wanted a place with a view. After looking at their website and seeing a "verified" photo of Puget Sound and speaking the leasing office staff about the view I decided to move in. After I got here I realized there is no view. Maybe from only certain apartments but not from any shared outdoor spaces like they led me to believe. The view I get to enjoy in my apartment and in shared outdoor space is of parking lots and buildings, which is ok if you don't claim otherwise. Then there is the trash. When you first walk in to the front entrance the smell punches you in the face unless you don't have a keen sense of smell. The refuse room is next to the front door and is frequently overflowing with trash. The room has no ventilation system so hold your breath before you go in, given that you can even walk in. The back refuse room smells bad too but isn't usually overflowing. And the rent specials/gift cards; good luck getting it. The fine print says its up to Elan 41 discretion on whether you get it or not. When I moved in they were advertising 2,000 dollars, I got a gift card for a meal at Matadors. I have met many of the neighbors and some of them got $500 but no one I have spoken with received what was advertised. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. This place is legitimately a scam. At first the decor seems high quality but after spending time in this complex that facade was quickly broken along with cabinets, door handles, and towel racks. The icing on the cake was when we tried to leave said apartment complex and were stood up for our exit inspection and then charged copious amounts of money in a very vaguely itemized invoice. After calling several times and receiving no answer we were forced into paying. Good job Elan41. I will spread the word of your business ethics. Moved in when the place was brand new, great location but the novelty quickly wears off after a few interactions with the management. The office staff is extremely disorganized to the point that they probably wouldn't last in any other industry. There was a leak in our apartment one weekend when we were out of town and a 3x3 wood entrance flooring was ruined. We were blamed for this for not immediately seeing the leak as if we are expected to be home 24/7. They made us pay for the expenses even though it was a failure on their end. When it came time to move out I think she had a bit of a grudge over our words with her on this ordeal. She hired an off the books housekeeper to clean our apartment and had her come up with some ridiculous story about how filthy the place was when we kept it extremely clean and paid for carpet cleaning the day before as well as doing a final deep clean. It was clear dirty tactics by April, who seems to take the mean girls approach to business. I have never had any bad interactions with any landlords or management in the past, so this definitely took the cake in terms of poor management. Good luck ELAN, you need it. read more

I am just an elevator ride from Safeway and blocks from restaurants, shopping, and the weekly farmers market. The location is great. Its within walking distance to everything you need. The apartments, however, leave a lot to be desired. First, the place is locked up like Fort Knox. If you forget your keys while walking the dog, good luck getting back in the compound. The call box doesn't work half the time. The apartments appear to be really nice in pictures, but the remodel is very cheap. I've heard through word of mouth that it was just a temporary fix as they are preparing to sell the complex to another company. Don't count on getting any maintenance issues fixed as they've run through at least half a dozen staff in the 2 months that we've been there. Maintenance crew only stays about a week or so, then quits. Although it advertises "a view" in the ads, they actually mean "a view of a parking lot or the back side of another apartment complex." The only view I can find is if you hang over the balcony and stick your neck way out.......you can catch a partial glimpse of the city. There is no good view from these apartments. The office staff is usually quite rude, so I just avoid dealing with them altogether, and count down my time until I move. Also, the back half of the complex is in the pitch black dark because they have the light timer set for really odd times. In the evenings, I can barely see to get in my apartment. For the price we pay to live here, I would expect a little more. read more

I agree with Brian, this place is a joke and make their own rules! They decided to give everyone an eviction notice as to finish their major renovation when they were breaking Seattle's law and never even applied for a "Tenant Relocation permit" They had to rescind the letter for eviction( thanks to me!) The noise of the renovation starts at 6:30 in the morning and goes on for 12 hours. We have to weave our way thru the 20 plus construction worker and building material if we want to go get coffee in the clubhouse, trust me it's not worth it. We moved in this building in 2009 and since it was bought( which we were never informed of) it has taken a nose dive, it used to be a fun place to live. Now living here is pure hell, the management could care less that this is my family's home. Do not even think for one minute this place would be a good place to live, the only plus is you are right in the Junction. Run don't walk away from this place not even worth the $2000 plus dollars they are asking for. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig! read more

My husband and I moved into Elan 41 a short time ago and have loved it so far! The location really couldn't be anymore ideal- just an elevator ride away from Safeway, only one block away from all the great shops on California, and a short drive to downtown. It's also right next to a Rapid Ride transit center. The apartment itself has been very tastefully renovated and has a decent amount of storage. We've only had one maintenance issue and they jumped on it right away and made repairs within 1 day. There is quite a bit of construction going on because one side of the complex is still being renovated, but the noise has been limited to only daytime hours- between 8am and around 4:30pm. We've also had zero difficulty with parking, which is hard to find in this part of the city. Overall, I'd highly recommend Elan 41 to anyone looking for a beautiful, pet-friendly apartment in a prime location! read more
