I was told the wood I was purchasing was quality wood. That the knots wouldn't be larger than 1 1/2 inches and no knot holes. Probably 30% of the wood had large knots, knot holes, and a lot of split and damaged pieces. We managed to cut around and make all of the boards work except 2 boards. When I went to return the two boards and get a few extra I was "helped" by the rudest person I've probably ever had to deal with. From the moment I walked up to the counter he acted like I was disturbing him. He came out to the pile of boards, pointed at the ones I needed to choose from and then as he walked away said "try not to make a mess!" I have made many purchases from city lumber since I bought my home 10 years ago. I believe I have spent enough here to not be treated like a child. I don't know how this business keeps customers if this is how they treat everyone. I will drive to Portland to buy lumber before I will give this place my business again. City Lumber just lost a customer.

We were welcomed by a friendly staff member on the first floor where you can find some antiques and collectibles and lots of quality glassware, blankets, jewelry, candles and room scents. On the second floor we found room after room of absolutely stunning home decor of all kinds - furniture, art, sconces, lights, posters, art, and more. I saw about 300 things I would love to have in my home and I saw even more that I could find somewhere to put it if I only had the space. This is a gorgeous store and a must see if you are in Cannon Beach. If I lived anywhere nearby, this would certainly be a place that I'd come to find items for my home. There was enough variety in the treasures inside that almost anyone, with any style, would be able to find items to please their tastes. There wasn't much here that I could fit into a suitcase to take back when I was visiting, and the clothes were too small for me so I didn't really spend much time there. I saw some glass jelly fish hanging decorations that were really nice but I was afraid it would be too delicate to make it back in my luggage. They also had some encaustic works, which is a medium I really like. These were by an artist named Jennifer Wilson, and were mixed media because they included seashells and sea glass that were embedded in the wax. They were really evocative of the coast to me, and again if I thought I could get it back I probably would have bought one. The artwork here cries in price, from more affordable ($55 for the glass blown octopus, and there may have been less expensive stuff here) to paintings or sculpture that are in the thousands. Even if you're not buying it's worth a stroll through.

Founded by two women with a keen sense of wanting to support and build community for creative in the area. I learned this history from Lotte who was managing customer service the day I wandered in. I was just going to view some of the incredible paintings -- photos are understandably not permitted out of respect for the artists -- I was seeing from the outside. I was warmly welcomed and invited to browse without any pressure. They were beautifully potted plants throughout the gallery and I was told one of the owners has a green thumb. Eye-catching wall Pieces ranged from very large to tiny, but I wound up being drawn to the hand made jewelry collection. What caught my eye was a beautiful amethyst still at tight cluster, in a lavender hue with purple flames inside the tips. I had never seen anything like it. The piece was extremely well held in a silver structure and the chain was both beautiful and sturdy. My issue was that it was a 17 inch chain and I was looking for a 21 inch chain. Lotte was excellent at troubleshooting and simply called the artist who picked up. They spoke and then I was invited to have a brief conversation with the Artist, Anne Anderson, and we arranged for a time when I would be able to swap out the chains. It was a really wonderful experience of Customer Service that went above and beyond. Clearly the gallery had an excellent relationship with the artist which is always telling. The piece was understandably priced at $210 for the labor intensive setting, as well as the excellent quality of crystal used. This was my first purchase from the gallery in recent memory, but it stands out in my small collection as one of the most beautiful pieces.
