I was wearing my Gucci silver earrings, which had some minor scratches, and he offered to polish them. I agreed. He cleaned them with some solution, but the scratches remained and they looked no better. I thanked him, went home, and put them in my jewelry organizer. A few months later, I discovered black spots all over them that wouldn't wipe off. These earrings had been in perfect condition for two years, with no discoloration whatsoever. I brought them back, and he rubbed them with a cloth, claiming the spots were caused by fibers from his new polishing cloths. I find that explanation very hard to believe. I contacted Gucci, and they explained that their silver jewelry has a protective coating that may have been damaged during cleaning. After his second attempt, my earrings had even more scratches, had lost their shine, and honestly looked like a piece of junk. Instead of taking responsibility, he made awkward jokes about cleaning them again. I got the impression he just wanted me to leave. I can't comment on the jewelry he sells, but I'm extremely glad I didn't trust him with my expensive gold pieces. My Gucci earrings went from beautiful, slightly scratched jewelry to something I wouldn't even wear anymore. Very disappointing experience.

Alphonse called me today to say that the ring was ready and I was shocked. I rushed over to Ybarra Bros and sure enough it was and Alphonse told me that he had made it his priority job. Ybarra Bros treated my mother's simple signet ring like it was a priceless piece from the crown jewels. And it works out even better, because today is my mum's birthday and she got her ring back, in better shape than it was. I will definitely be shopping there myself and I know that if I need a piece repaired, where to take it.
