Ok our eyes are Super important and lets face it any surgery on your eye is Super scary. From the…read moremoment I stepped into the office I was greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff who took my information and then escorted me to the exam room. Victoria and Luke were really enjoyable and great conversations started up with both. I found myself relaxing more and more. Dr Abroms then came in and took me through the cataract surgery and what it would look like, how long it would take and what the results would be. They scanned my eyes which took only minutes. Then I met with Lisa the Executive Director who went over all the packages available. She was very thorough and I picked my package and we headed up to schedule the surgery. A week later I was at the Surgery center in Arroyo Grande. It was a well oiled machine the way they got you ready made you feel comfortable (Zara, Jen and Lisa) and wisked me into the operating room. After (20 minutes) I went home and things were a bit blurry for a day. The next day I couldn't wait to schedule the other eye. I haven't seen this good since I was 12 and no glasses. I had a wonderful experience.

I went through the preop prep, which was time-consuming for all involved so I feel bad for deciding not to follow through. I chose the Office near me but after the appointment was made, i have been asked to drive 30 miles out of my way to go to their other office because of equipment being down. & basically it was implied thst every future appointment would not be in my location and no indication of this issue being remidied any time soon. & basically said that they would make the appointment but probably continue to call me to move it to the other location, which obviously is more convenient for them, but that wasn't part of the plan in the beginning if I had known that I was going to be coaxed into going 30 miles away (plus for me to get to town is 12 miles) almost 50 miles each way, I wouldn't have chosen this office or this Dr. so I feel kind of confused and that they weren't upfront with my original appointment. Also Anna, who is borderline dismissive and retrieved most of my calls, seemed happy to cancel my next appointment without even offering a suggestion or resolution. I finally got very annoyed & canceled the whole future service. Which I had been excited to have done.

Scheduling a nightmare. Emails, calls, emails, calls. Finally set up for my son, took him out of…read moreschool. They said "his appt was yesterday," wherein I replied "no, look at this email, I wasn't available yesterday," and receptionist took no responsibility. It was definitely Wed not Tues. She wouldn't look at my emails. She said "oh, she shouldn't have done that"/scheduled you? My son didn't feel heard at the appt with the Dr. He had a concussion and was sent for that, not a normal eye exam. I was but off by him too in our conversations. Disregarded. Now he is getting glasses, don't think that is the correct route? My appt was suppossed to be immediately after his (for his 9am we arrived at 850 and he was seen at 920/ a student missing school). The first thing I asked was if the dr was on time. Then for my appt, it was supposed to be back to back, mine was at 10, we were there still, and at 10, she stated there were THREE people ahead of me, so an hour wait. Didn't mention they stated they "squeezed Max in today," so therefore the wait, because of their schedule mishap. Felt disrespected and won't go back. We just left, I had to get my kid back in school. Going elsewhere.

Dr Sani warned me just minutes before surgery that corrective surgery may take multiple sessions. (We had already had multiple appointments and this was the first I was hearing of multiple sessions under the laser). Surgery was quick and painless, however Dr sani would go on to accidentally cut my eye when removing the bandage contact lenses with his tweezers 7 days after prk laser surgery. He was adamant that he didn't cut my eye, and that I just had dry eyes, which was a common side effect. After weeks of dealing with eye pain and being out of work, and his diagnosis of "dry eyes" I saw another eye doctor. The 2nd eye doctor quickly diagnosed me with a cut to the eye, From a sharp object. (His tweasers). What should've been an easy fix, Dr sani failed to admit his mistake and turned my 2 weeks off the job into over a month. Overall poor communication and and ego turned this experience sour. I wouldn't go back to this location or recommend them to anyone.

I have never been so impressed with a doctor as I was with Dr. Shapiro. It was a very long…read moreappointment (3 hours) but I feel like I know a lot about laser eye surgery. You are given a very detailed exam and he spends the time to explain all the options, including wearing a set of contacts around the office and outside so you get a feel for the differences. Randy, the technician, administered the exams and was very friendly and professional. I am considering changing doctors and having my regular exams here because Randy really knew his stuff. The follow up by the office staff in Venture was wonderful. Sandy called me twice to set up the prescriptions, which was very surprising. I don't know if I can afford to do the procedure this year but it is definitely something I plan on doing in the near future and when I am ready, there is no doubt I will have Dr. Shapiro as my doctor!!!

10 stars!! 15 on a scale of 5!! Dr. Shapiro is the greatest. I recommend him without reservation…read moreand with the greatest confidence in him as a laser eye surgeon, which is all he does -- not cataracts, just 100 percent laser eye surgery. In short, I was looking for a doc who was a technical expert; was going to be my eye doctor from beginning to end -- from the initial intake or "sell" appointment, to surgery and through the follow-up; and who would be accessible and accountable to me -- if I had a concern in the middle of the night, I wanted to be able to reach him or her. What I didn't realize is that I also wanted someone who had the latest laser -- what was then the third iteration of laser - and who was a very patient person. I got all of that as well as a really nice and personable human, and someone who treats his staff well enough that the "newcomer" has been there for 15+ years. The system that Dr. Shapiro has maps the inside of the eyeball. This iteration of laser locks onto the landmarks in the eye mapping; if the human or technology were to move or have any kind of surge, the laser would know that and immediately stop, eliminating all kinds of human error. I called his office one time to ask a question. He was in the office and overheard his assistant talking to me. More proactive than any doctor I've ever had, Dr. Shapiro got on the phone, asked me what was going on, and gave me detailed information. I was soooo impressed that not only could I get a hold of him if I'd tried calling him, but I actually got him when I hadn't even tried. That is HUGE to me. Where he totally amazed me was in his patience with me on the day of surgery. There is a choice between what I guess I would call the "prescription" of the surgery, or how you want him to "tune" your eyes. The choice is between seeing extremely well at one distance, like close-up for surgery; or to have blended vision, such as mid- and longer-distance, so you can see someone's face across a table and also see street signs on the freeway. To do the blended vision, the doc literally "sets" one eye at one distance and the other eye at the other distance and the patient's brain melds the two distances together. On my first visit to his office, his team gave me contacts that represented blended vision. All things being equal, I would have picked that option, but some people's brains don't integrate the two distances well. I have a history of motion sickness, and I didn't think I'd tolerate blended vision, so I picked the single distance vision. But on the day of my surgery, he told me that he thought I would tolerate the blended vision. He set me up with contacts again and told me to take my time, go outside, and see what I thought. Literally, he had his surgical team wait for me for at least a half hour while I walked around. I changed my mind and decided to try the blended vision. It worked, and two years post surgery, I haven't had a single issue with decision or with motion sickness, and am so glad I have the blended vision. I am extremely grateful to him for his excellence and his patience! The only downside is slight: When I did my original search for a laser eye doc, I looked for someone near San Luis Obispo. Dr. Shapiro's laser office is in Ventura, and he has satellite offices to do the initial meeting, and pre- and post-op appointments in several cities: Santa Barbara, SLO, etc. I did all of the pre- and post-op appointments in the SLO office, but I had to go to Ventura for the surgery. Not a huge deal, since I'd have taken the day for the surgery, but it wasn't originally what I was hoping for. Overall, I am very happy with my eyesight and Dr. Shapiro. My husband has decided it might be time for this surgery, too. If he decides to do it, we'll be going back to Dr. Shapiro.

The other girl kept repeating how nervous she was that she was going to be fired and she was new. The only one that was caring, took her time was the one that takes you to the room and checks your eye peripheral vision, takes the scan of your eyes. She was great. The doctor was rushed -literally told me that when he walked in the room and every time he mentioned one of my concerns that the intake person had written down, he would pick up a box from his counter and promote a product. I was pushed eye drops and vitamins and then talk to about my walking and muscle care and other subjects that were not even about my eyes. When I went up to the front to look at frames I was told to take a look around, I need to do paperwork- nobody ever approached, Ask me what is that I'm looking for. Is there a style I like- nothing I had given this Place my third shot, but I will not be going back again. I will find a new place to go.
