I took my test this morning at 9:30. I came in and immediately was greeted by a very nice lady at the front desk who told me to fill out paperwork and read a slip of paper before my test explaining the process. They are very clear and adamant about arriving 15 minutes early. Instructions on the website and when you book are very clear about what is required. I arrive 15 minutes early and I got a table waiting for my test to start. My examiner was Steve Buckley. He was amazing and so easy to talk to. He put me at ease completely. I was really nervous and he made it so much easier to take my test. He was calm and friendly and the car I took the test in was nice to drive. The route was local and the weather was not ideal as it was sprinkling, and the roads were wet and had lots of leaves on the ground, but I still passed my test and he congratulated me and I was on my way. I recommend PDE, I felt very at ease here with friendly employees.

She is unpleasant in general, questionable in her role as an "instructor", and unapologetic as well as unaccountable. After an incident in her class where my high school daughter and I were specifically singled out for harassment, Loree determined that my intention to reach out directly to ODOT was a "threat", and expelled my daughter (who had participated respectfully and had never missed a single class session or driving lesson) from her program. A legal challenge had to be made, and a complaint to ODOT filed. If you prefer to interact with a driving school that is ethical, with a strong customer service orientation and an eye towards treating students fairly above all, this is not the right driving "academy" for your family.

While she may be an adequate "driving instructor," I don't believe that Loreen is necessarily at her best when she interacts with people. Especially when it involves taking accountability and apologizing. Loreen and I spoke on the telephone twice, for a length of time before coordinating dates/times that would best suit my daughters schedule and hers. After verbally discussing pricing and scheduling, a PayPal invoice was delivered to my email address. 1. The invoice was incorrect. When I telephoned Loreen, I asked her to please send a corrected invoice. She immediately countered with, "No, I didn't make an error. That is how much the driving lesson cost." Needless to say, the invoice was again emailed with the correct pricing. So YES, she did make an error and NO, she did not apologize. 2. An email with dates for the scheduled driving driving dates/times was to be emailed to my daughter. (I had placed them in my calendar as well). It was not emailed, even after calling twice to remind her. 3. Yesterday was suppose to be my daughters first driving lesson. At 10 minutes past the hour, no driving instructor had arrived. I telephoned Loreen, she said that she had no recollection of us speaking and that she certainly would not have scheduled driving instruction without payment. I DID pay, the same day that the invoice arrived, via PayPal. Which she discovered after looking at her payments. Her tone with me was condescending and rude. To finish out an otherwise long review; I understand that we all make mistakes. That life can be stressful and overwhelming. That being said, it would have been professional and humanly kind, for Loreen to apologize and make an attempt to remedy her error. Instead she has overbooked with other clients. After a couple telephone conversations, she is refunding me in cash today (I don't trust her to actually send a refund otherwise). People, integrity and kindness go a long way in this world. You will be pleasantly surprised how people lean into you, and are inspired by your light. Pay it forward here and there, and be kind. Take ownership if you have made a mistake and do your very best to remedy it. :-)

I moved to oregon and finished all my primary education, came back to so cal for college and have been here ever since. i've lived in la longer than anywhere else. yet why do i call oregon home? maybe i don't want to be an angeleno. or maybe home is where you go to high school? whenever i am home in beaverton, oregon. i tend to drive around my area to see how things have changed and i always drive by sunset. i slow down and lower my window and just linger and look at the sign about the new game, or school play and let it all come back to me. how i remember high school and how it really was, is probably 2 different things. i thought i was a character, memorable. i remember speaking to mr. shlegal, a teacher i really got along with, a lot of time had passed but he didn't remember me. he was sorry but told me class clowns like me come through ever year. i remember mr. coply my ap econ and ap history teacher. i saw him some place and he didn't recognize me. i thought i was an econ and history prodigy but probably one of me every year... though one person i swear does recognize me is my old wrestling coach, coach parker. haha i always got this notion he still holds a grudge when i quit the team my senior year. whats funny is i still wrestle and compete to this very day, but now its more like ufc (not useful funny cool but ultimate fighting championship) style. i remember when westview was built and our school looked old and small and they took half our students and all our best athletes...freakin westview!!! i remember friends becoming enemies, friends being separated, because of new school boundaries... i remember break dancing in the halls. listening to my walkman at all times. wearing my letterman's jacket as a badge of honor and pride. pride... some kids hate their high school, or their experience. high school was rough. but needed to make me who i am. i made life long friends i still talk to, not a lot of people can say that. my best friend from then is my best friend now. my car from then is my car still. hey who says sam can't keep a long term relationship! i even still wrestler dammit haha. i still got school pride. i remember blushing when girls used to ask me for my jackets or if i could show them a move, or for me to dance a lil bit. i remember making home movies with my friends with hopes of becoming a filmmaker. i remember writing a lot. i remember picking on a lot of other people and smacking kids around. the bullied becomes the bully sometimes. i remember smoking behind the school, i remember drinking at my friends house and falling in love with liquor. I remember catcher in the rye and robert cormier books and the great gatsby and ethan frome and crime and punishment and so many more. i remember garretty and zinn. i remember warm summers eating outside, laughing, and care free eating orange creamcicles. before i was an adult. i was a human being. it was almost idyllic, or thats how i remember it. i remember what it felt like to be at home. i remember pride. sunset apollos.

The instructors are patient, professional, and truly dedicated to helping new drivers feel safe and confident on the road. They take the time to explain not just the rules of the road, but also priactical tips for real-world situations. Scheduling lessons was always easy, and the staff was always friendly and accommodating. The owner, Mike, really cares about the new teen driver. He even takes time out on evenings or weekends to answer my text messages. The online zoom classroom was amazing as well as the instructor teaching it! I think his name was Christian. It was twice a week and very well organized class setting. The zoom class provided a strong foundation of knowledge. My teen felt comfortable right away, and I noticed a big improvement in his driving skills. Thanks to 1st Learn to Drive, my teen passed the driving test on the first try! If you're looking for driving school that balances professionalism with a supportive learing environment, 1st Learn to Drive is an excellent choice. Thank you, Kim Ellingson

Please do not take this course…read more My online instructor, Benji, was totally fine. Same with my first driving instructor who was some sort of "substitute" I believe. But when I finally got my first experience with my actual instructor, who I believe the name of was Derrick, I was disgusted. He would have his phone out, looking at it with an earbud in, WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. This was completely unprofessional. You want to know what else was unprofessional? When he reached into my friends' pocket to take his phone out to turn off his alarm. He was also extremely rude to us and made us do many more small things that were not necessary. His way of teaching was terrible and completely unhelpful. And he also hated belts or something because every time he stood up his pants would fall almost all the way down. Which is probably why he put a mat under where he sat, that was absolutely disgusting and would shake it out. He shouted at my friend for no reason, he was terrible. I could go on. But you know what else? My friend's parents and mine both called the owner, Mike, to complain about this TWICE. And after Mike said he would give us a new instructor, me and my friend arrived the next day to find that untrue. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I was extremely anxious and in danger of crashing when driving with him, and temporarily had driving PTSD after my lessons. This man should be fired.
