It is hard to imagine a more poorly run organization than PDL. Drawing stations are never adequately staffed, the staff turns over constantly because they cannot keep qualified phlebotomists employed, and they cannot even properly set up a website. If you try to schedule an appointment online, good luck finding the website, because not even Google can find it. Being unable to schedule an appointment, I just walked in and was quoted a wait of at least 90 minutes, and the waiting room was standing room only. The receptionist explained that there were no phlebotomists available because they were all out to lunch. This was at 10:30 a.m. Unfortunately, PDL has a virtual monopoly in Santa Barbara, so they have no competition and hence no incentive to pay even the slightest attention to patient care. read more

I recently had to have bloodwork twice. I went to the PDL facility at Sansum 317 Pueblo street in Santa Barbara. Each time I was taken care of within 5 minutes ( I did go mid morning once and early afternoon the 2nd time ) when it was non crowded as it tends to be in the early morning. Receptionists were professional and friendly. I was so lucky to have Marivel take my blood both times, she is a marvel with that needle ! Don't feel a thing, no prick, no sting, no bruising...Kudos to her, I don't want anyone else from now on ! I will ask for her by name in the future . read more

First of all, their location is strangely situated within their address. There's a person sitting as a "receptionist" but she does NOT work for them, so she can't sign you in or help you. Strange, right? So there's an outerlobby and an inner lobby (waiting place), so noone knows you are there unless they come out from their tiny room full of machines running and the "non-receptionist" waiting in this room, the same room where they take your blood, etc. NO PLACE TO SIGN IN (like they have at the much better organized and friendlier West Pac Labs) which is strange. Why not a bell? There's a sign on the inside door that says "please wear your mask", yet the women who came right after me wandered in WITHOUT A MASK and lucky for me she looked around for a FREE mask and there was one. Really Lady? people? Everyone knows in a medical business you ALWAYS wear a mask. So, there's that. After a few minutes, a woman came out from the back, and asked for all of our id's (now there are three us in this tiny lobby, where we COULD NOT do social distancing at all) so my opinion, VERY DISORGANIZED here. I took the time to make an appointment before hand with a nice woman on the phone (yeah) Yet, She never asked if any of us had appointments (which I did) yet, she took the woman who came at the same time as me (did she have an appt?, who knows) BEFORE me without any explanation. I told her I did have an appointment at 11 (it was 10:55 when I arrived). Then, she comes out (returns my insurance card and drivers license....why did she need to keep them BEFORE my appointment????) and brings me into this room, with her desk and her computer on one wall, (why is she in this room at all? Where the privacy? ) PLUS two LOUD EMF machines (on a table next to where the tech draws your blood) and the technician and her chair. Then, the woman asks "is this your name" (loved that privacy) I said "Yes", but it would have been nice if she confirmed what tests she was doing, but I felt she was rushing me to be honest. I had to ask her name, she didn't introduce herself and was NOT very warm or inviting. I don't like being poked, and she wasn't the best I have ever had to be candid. I will NOT be returning to this lab. I wanted to try it because currently I am being hassled for money for some testing that was done where my primary care doctor's staff coded my testing wrong and Medicare kicked it back as "NOT PAYING" because it was coded as "not medically necessary". I have talked with the lab and my primary doctor 6 times already trying to get it coded correctly, with each blaming the other. WOW. They are NOT friendly, there is NO PRIVACY inside the room, it's cramped, not-covid compliant in lobby, and need I say more. They are "trying" I guess, but not my jamb. PLUS, the tech put the stretchy bandage on my left arm way too tight, my arm started to hurt. read more

This company was supposed to bill my insurance and failed to do so multiple times. I gave up and paid the $289 for the SIBO breath test out of frustration. I do not recommend them. Find a different place and save yourself the headache. read more

Very rude front desk staff, went upstairs and walked toward desk with my paperwork. Half-way across lobby the front desk lady said "STOP! Just wait, there is one other person ahead of you!" Just wanted to give them my paperwork. They continued to act (?) stressed and told the other person sitting down to wait also. (?) He finally got called to the back and I kept waiting to give them my paperwork, not necessarily get it done immediately. When they called me up to the front desk continued to be rude, short and snappy. The owner really needs to send in a secret shopper to check this out. I guess as long as WestPac Lab is even worse they can get away with this mistreatment of patients. read more

These gals hate their job. Rude, unapproachable, no personality, and snobby. My first time here I was rudely informed they were on lunch. No sign on door or counter stating they were on lunch. Upon my return no hello or smile by the black haired gal at front desk. She barely even looked at me. The next gal was not personable and robotic to say the least. If you hate your job so much that you can't even fake kindness, warmth, or even a smile, than quit! No one wants to deal with your poor attitudes and sour demeanor. read more

Pacific Diagnostics Laboratories - Laboratory Testing Near Me - Pismo Beach, California

So not use pacific diagnostics as they are not a reputable laboratory. They charged me 12x for a sample that only gets run 1x. They sent me to collections 4x eventhough i have never been late on a payment and our insurance hadn't processed the charges. They have done this and other friends of ours over the last 5 years and the doctors feel helpless saying sorry, we know but there is nothing we can do. Please share this on all social media. It's not just this lab. I had blood drawn at SLO office, dropped off urine here. It is near impossible to get results to my doctors or a copy for myself. The lab staff is great. Getting results is ridiculously difficult. No wonder they are always empty. read more

First, I live here, not San Francisco (don't know where Yelp got this one!). I have had my blood taken time and again in SLO, and I hate to say it, I have been tortured at Sierra Vista Hospital and West Pack numerous times, coming home with huge bruises. Furthermore, in these locations, I had to wait an hour before being able to get my blood taken. When I first switched to Pacific Diagnostics, I did not like the woman behind the desk. Furthermore, the phlebotomist was only OK (she missed a couple times, then got it). Everything changed for the better when they put a new woman behind the desk, and hired a lively blond phlebotomist who never missed. I really mean never missed. I was elated! First time ever anywhere for me. An important bonus: No waiting. I now wonder why I wasted so much time at West Pack. The lesson is: phlebotomists move around, and the service you get depends upon the talent of the one who takes care of you that day, but you are certain of one thing at Pacific Diagnostics: you won't have to wait very long. read more

Please keep in mind that this is a satellite office with a small staff. Often, only the phlebotamist is present and must answer the phones, check in clients, draw the blood, and do the paperwork. Even when one must wait, it beats a trip to Santa Barbara or elsewhere. And it's very convenient to have the results in MyChart rather than waiting until one's doctor reviews the data. While the appt. time and people servicing the lab are great, the billing and communication is not. I went there on advice that the lab was a little less expensive than others in our area. I had 5 tests done...I received a bill with 8 itemizations, so called and asked billing to explain what each charge was for, as it did not come with explanation...just charge 1,2,3 etc. .I spoke with someone named Maria, that could not really explain it...I called again and spoke to someone who also could not explain the charges and asked if I wanted to speak to the manager...I said yes...she put me on hold and then came back and said she was busy and would call me back immediately, but she never did. I went to another lab yesterday afternoon, and inquired about the charges for the same tests, both with and without insurance and they were each at least 10.00 less and some 50.00 less for the same test. They still could never explain what test went with a 133.00 charge and a 67.00 charge. I would advise double checking your bills with them. Personally, I will not use them again, and I think this is a little of insurance fraud....but without them being communicative about what the charges are for, I can only advise Blue Shield that this was my personal experience. read more

In general the place is great, clean, conveniently located. My phlebotomist was Corey. She was very professional and warm and also did a quick and painless job taking my blood. They always seem to be extremely busy but they handle it pretty efficiently and move people through. I waited about 40 minutes with a room full of people so I guess that's pretty good. I wish they were open after 5pm for professional schedules but there is the option of coming in the morning hours. read more
