One of the show rooms

Look for a place that has so much hype around it. I was really shocked to see so many empty showrooms. I went through a few floors and the selection of showrooms is maybe 40-50% capacity. It's sort of a ghost town in there. I think that it definitely used to be a hotspot and hub, but it was giving eerie vibes. I was excited to have a meeting there because I work in construction and so was kind of excited to see all the different vendors and the high-end interior design showrooms, but I was surprised at how unimpressed I was. Also the few places we did stop in and see I felt like people were almost annoyed that we were there and weren't super helpful or open to speaking with me or my friend who works in High end real estate. Which I found odd. Also, the parking was really confusing, and I had the hardest time finding my car.

Y'know, Elton throws his annual post-Oscars party here. Not sure how my invitations get lost every year, but Jamie W. and I found ourselves strolling Melrose Avenue and facing this monolithic structure. Actually 'monolithic' is not the right word because the complex consists of three asymmetrical buildings in three colors - Blue (1975), Green (1988), and Red (2013). No surprise how cavernous it was. Designed by renowned architect Cesar Pelli (...he later designed the Salesforce Tower), it has a similarly austere feeling which amplifies the emptiness inside. It's not a retail shopping center, it's primarily a series of designer showrooms so you have to have a lot of ka-ching to be considered a serious consumer. We were just looking for the toilet. The Blue Whale is the first of a series of buildings built in 1975. The Green in 1988 & Red in 2013. Why blue whale? Because it loomed large, long & blue over the neighbouring area. In some ways Pacific Design Center reminds me of the Memphis Group Milano that used vivid colors as one element in their post modern designs. I knew thst most of the showcase design stores were mostly for trade only, but little did I know that some of the space is dedicated to art to the public. I got wind of a recreated, more high tech version of Andy Warhol's Rain Machine (Daisy Waterfall) 1969 which was exhibited gratis. Tinkling, peaceful music, sounds of rain falling in the darkness, laser simulated rain created a Zen-like meditative moment in time. What made it even more personal was that there was no one else on a Friday afternoon. The man in charge told us we could stay as long as we wanted. How cool was that? There were two other rooms that had art. One was electronic visual art and the other distorted statues that look normal from one angle but otherwise look ultra thIn & distorted. The Blue Whale's interior is tastefully done even though the scale is large. The grounds around the buildings are orderly & immaculately planted. There is also a branch of MOCA, Museum of Contemporary Art that has interesting exhibits. Now that I know about the free art spaces, the PDC doesn't seem like an antiseptic, forbidden, unwelcoming space any longer. Great way to PR and create good will.

*** aesthetically speaking, i think the PDC is beautiful. *** it's very contemporary, accessible, feature free art events, superior courtyard, appealing fountain, and sculptures too. there are even swanky restaurant/lounges to hang late nite. i attended a Remy Martin party here years ago that was off the chain. in 2004 AMEX sponsored an attractive Leibovitz photo exhibition of notable celebrities that are AMEX cardmembers. but yesterday i just chilled in the courtyard and read a book. *** PDC is a one-stop shop for the contemporary soul. ***

Architecturally, this building is beautiful. It's only for people in the design trade, yet I was here twice for special screenings at their Silver Screen movie theater. Parking is underground and plentiful, just off Melrose. The security guards were very helpful my first time in the building, trying to find the movie theater. I wish I was an interior designer or architect as the showrooms looked invitingly awesome through the plate glass windows at night...

OMG this place is amazing! The outside has always been quite enchanting and I've always wandered what was inside? Well, today we satisfied our curiosity and after our MOCA trip, went inside! I'm so glad I did cuz it was just as beautiful inside as it was outside! It houses some of the most cutting edge home decor, coupled with really cool art galleries! Some were really nice and allowed us to walk thru the design studios while others were Snooty as Hell! Prices were far outta the average persons range but the way they had them laid out made it very good for inspiration.

Oh. My God. Like wow! So this place is not complete yet. But still I am amazed by the vastness of it all. I came when the building was closed but the museum was hosting an independent book fair. Seeing places like this makes me value my childhood and feel bad that most people in my area really don't have any way to easily be exposed to stuff like this. It just expands your mind. Someday I might even be able to afford a nice item or two.

Enjoy this movie theater. Screen is small but seats are comfy and no one blocks your view. Sound is not bad.

There's plenty of plant varieties to choose from as well as plant accessories like ceramic pots in all shapes and sizes. When you walk up to the second floor, the garden oasis continues and then in the evening, the space turns into a restaurant. I first attended Rolling Greens for their floral arrangement class which is $250 per person. It comes with a vase, all the florals, one flower food, and the needed materials to make the arrangement in glass. It also comes with wine or refreshing tea. The instructor spent the first 30ish minutes chatting about arrangements and what itesm to start with, and some simple reflexing of petals and wiring, but I do wish there was a bit more technique learned. I did appreciate them walking through each person to give advice and everyone was incredibly friendly! I was very happy to walk out with a beautiful arrangement. Transportation afterwards was a bit difficult, but now I have the vase to create something again!

She was sincerely concerned about my review and got back to me almost immediately. That speaks a lot. My encounter with the sales person is going to be used as an opportunity to help offer better service to their clients, so as difficult as it was to write that review, it turned into something very positive. Thank you, Hayley, for being so open and receptive and for following up with me. I look forward to shopping again at Rolling Greens.

I'm not one of those people who likes pushy or overly attentive sales staff, but this place is the total opposite. If you happen to speak to the owners - an elderly woman and man - it's your lucky day. They can hardly waste their breath to speak to you. Sometimes, you may encounter a young woman who is friendly and helpful, but they have such a high staff turnaround, she probably won't last long. It's really a shame because they do have a great curation of pieces but their attitude is so appalling that it doesn't matter how good the it is, you enter and leave with such a bad taste that you would never buy anything from them (I'll buy my Roly Poly chair from 1st Dibs, thank you). As an interior designer, I've purchased many things for clients in the past, but I truly cannot patronize them anymore.

I had bought from Garde online before over the years but never been in person until they recently opened a new store here in NY. Me and my client were immediately approached by a man who introduced himself as the owner who then proceeded to follow us around the store talking all the while a dime a dozen real loud and obnoxious. Not only did we not want this it made us extremely uncomfortable, especially as he was so incredibly unpleasant about all of his clients and staff and even some of the artists they were showing. He would not go away or leave us alone did not get the hint at all. This man complained about multiple staff members to us also mentioned several very well known designers by name as being hard to work with (in his view)despite us showing zero interest in hearing it as some of these people are friends and industry peers of mine, it felt so unprofessional and indiscreet. There was a young girl working in there who must have been so awkward, she seemed friendly and polite would rather have talked to her. My client asked me if we could just leave and said she didnt want to buy anything from a place like this with such little respect for their clientele and represented artists. She is a collector and loves discovering new artists but was very upset at the lack of respect. If i sold through them I would be P*SSED at the way they talked about me as well as the buyers of my work, I have lived in NY for 20 years and never once had such a bad feeling about someone in my industry. Horrible man horrible day and I will never purchase for clients from here ever again and will advise others to do the same. What a way to run a business, great job guys
