I interviewed my dauntingly brilliant friend Laila Lalami about her new novel, "The Dream Hotel," and the store was kind of an ideal venue. It was a lovely place, well designed with an intuitive layout, and tons of attractive merchandise. I spent some time browsing the furniture and housewares, and everything was tasteful, pretty, and of obvious high quality. I got a nice gift as thanks for my participation in the event, some fancy tea and a ceramic mug. I almost never want a free mug, but I really like this one. The store worked quite well as an event space. A little bar popped up in the middle of the store, and there was food set up in back. There was also, of course, an abundance of comfortable seating. Whether you're looking for furniture or hoping to host a cool event, I'd recommend Nickey Kehoe. It's a beautiful store with a lot to offer.

There's plenty of plant varieties to choose from as well as plant accessories like ceramic pots in all shapes and sizes. When you walk up to the second floor, the garden oasis continues and then in the evening, the space turns into a restaurant. I first attended Rolling Greens for their floral arrangement class which is $250 per person. It comes with a vase, all the florals, one flower food, and the needed materials to make the arrangement in glass. It also comes with wine or refreshing tea. The instructor spent the first 30ish minutes chatting about arrangements and what itesm to start with, and some simple reflexing of petals and wiring, but I do wish there was a bit more technique learned. I did appreciate them walking through each person to give advice and everyone was incredibly friendly! I was very happy to walk out with a beautiful arrangement. Transportation afterwards was a bit difficult, but now I have the vase to create something again!

Me and my client were immediately approached by a man who introduced himself as the owner who then proceeded to follow us around the store talking all the while a dime a dozen real loud and obnoxious. Not only did we not want this it made us extremely uncomfortable, especially as he was so incredibly unpleasant about all of his clients and staff and even some of the artists they were showing. He would not go away or leave us alone did not get the hint at all. This man complained about multiple staff members to us also mentioned several very well known designers by name as being hard to work with (in his view)despite us showing zero interest in hearing it as some of these people are friends and industry peers of mine, it felt so unprofessional and indiscreet. There was a young girl working in there who must have been so awkward, she seemed friendly and polite would rather have talked to her. My client asked me if we could just leave and said she didnt want to buy anything from a place like this with such little respect for their clientele and represented artists. She is a collector and loves discovering new artists but was very upset at the lack of respect. If i sold through them I would be P*SSED at the way they talked about me as well as the buyers of my work, I have lived in NY for 20 years and never once had such a bad feeling about someone in my industry. The sales people were fantastic, helpful and pretty darn easy on the eyes. With the beautiful and unique furniture and art adoring the walls, I couldn't help but purchase a beautiful Italian wall sconce for my newly finished bathroom. I highly recommend coming to this new designer haven, just down the road from the illustrious Pacific Design Center. With names like Mastercraft, Paul Ferrante, Nancy Corzine, Gregarious Pineo and other designer names for just a fraction of the price, passing up such opportunities was something I couldn't bring myself to do.

From the pure vibrant vibes to the incredible staff that make this gem thrive. Tucked away in Hollywood on the cusp of West Hollywood off of Sycamore Ave and Fountain Avenue, just a small skip east from La Brea Avenue. They're open from 9 AM until 5:30 PM all 7 days of the week. And carry plants, planters, gardening essentials and wonderoud things of all shapes and sizes. I've been passing by frequently for nearly two months on my way to work usually before they're open or after they're closed on as I make my way home and finally got to stop in and explore. That wave of calm, relaxation and vibrance that being around nature and all it's planty goodness lives here in abundance. Explore in person, place orders for pick up or even delivery. Mickey Hargitay has a rich history to match it's ambiance since it's birth in 1980, starting off with succulents, cacti and their own macrame designs Voted one of the best places to buy plants in 2015. Featured in the L.A. Times in 2016. Featured in Voyage LA in 2021. Not to mention a great spotlight in 2025. Founded and owned by Mickey Hartigay Jr. a fellow Sag and plant lover like myself. He and every single person here is a gem, I picked up on nothing but good energy even after the end of a long day and rainy weekend everyone here does their best to bring a slice of joy to each person. This was a 30 minute drive for me but that's nothing when it comes to enjoying a walk through some awesome plants. There isn't much parking and you have to find a spot on the street. Upon entering the property you are consumed with lush and rare greenery. I found many sought after plants and they were priced accordingly. There are many areas in their outdoor area as well as inside the greenhouse. Most plants have a price on the pot of on a tray if there are multiples. There is also a pottery shop although I didn't go in there. I could have easily left with a car full of plants but was able to exercise restraint and only left with a sweet Hoya Polyneura.
