We live in San Diego and had been searching the country for months for some Kai Kristiansen dining room chairs. We found just what we wanted at MidCenturyLA. The owner, David, and his staff member, Aimee, were a delight to work with. They answered all our questions and went to extra lengths to make sure these chairs would fit our needs. Their inventory is incredible. They provided all the information needed for ordering upholstery, deliveries, etc. When there was a slight mix-up on the order they went out of their way to make sure everything was taken care of quickly and professionally. Furthermore, if you have been trying to buy furniture lately and finding 4-6 month delivery times check them out. Their turnaround time to reupholster and refinish the chairs like NEW is totally dependent on how fast you can get your fabric chosen and delivered to them . MidcenturyLA is awesome, and owner David is equally awesome. I have been in the store on two occasions pre covid-19 pandemic and it's an amazing experience. So much to look at in a beautiful space, the light in the front showroom is stunning. I remember getting lost in here roaming around looking at all of the pieces, and with a background in photography I became absolutely intoxicated by the selection of large scale photographs available for purchase all throughout the store, in addition to the stunning furniture. My partner and I chose a gorgeous teak dining table gifted to us by family as a wedding present, and it's maybe my favorite thing in our home, in addition to the Yoshi Makino photograph we purchased later on. The delivery process for both the table and the photograph went great and David kept us updated throughout the process. Well hello you little secret you. midcenturyLA is a magical warehouse in the valley FILLED with gorgeous midcentury furniture. Credenzas, desks, dining tables, side tables, beds, dining chairs, couches, stuffed chairs, mirrors, lamps, what else!? They have a large and absolutely unbelievable collection. There is furniture stacked on other furniture, so make sure you come with time to spare, because there is a LOT in here. Their pieces are originals, imported directly from Denmark and Sweden. Things are a bit "pricey" if you will, however, the furniture here are collector pieces. This is not disposable ikea junk. It is one-of-a-kind, and will enhance your house! Midcenturyla is an oasis of authentic, smartly-curated mid-century modern furniture in an unassuming building in North Hollywood. I had been scouring the Internet and local stores for two sturdy, classy, stylish and comfortable guest chairs for my professional office but was rather disappointed with the selection out there. David responded to my email the same evening- and offered his expertise to try to see if he could identify the piece. Although it proved challenging (my chair is a one off seemingly with no markings) I was so impressed at his willingness to help a stranger, without something in it for him whatsoever. I found out about Midcentury LA from a friend. We were looking for a dining room table and chairs, and while we didn't have anything specific in mind regarding the style, we wanted a big table. (Many of the draw-leaf tables they have in the warehouse are great for 4-6 people, but we are tall and wanted something that would comfortably fit us and 6 tall family and friends.) Everyone at Midcentury LA is super down to earth. They will set up as many tables (or whatever) as you want to see until you find what you want. The first time we came in we didn't find a table we fell in love with. We did find a set of 4 chairs, already refinished and reupholstered. And luckily, there was another set of 4 chairs that were virtually identical that we could match if we could find a big enough table. Long story short, we went back a few days later and wandered around. My husband spotted a table that had just come in -- it was perfect. Now the hard part. Since they had run out of the upholstery that they'd used on the first set of chairs, we had to get creative with the other 4 chairs. We have 4 chairs with one upholstery and 4 with another. They made clear that if we just can't handle the differences we can ask for everything to be redone with the first upholstery. We actually like it the way it is, but we're funky like that. Things you should consider when you come in: 1. Down to earth for some may come across as flaky to others. Communication is a little fuzzy (wires get crossed, etc.). Some members of the staff are more flaky than others. If you're high maintenance, you should know this. 2. Don't get freaked out if something looks scratched up when you see it in the warehouse. Their guys will make it beautiful. If they can't repair something, they should tell you up front. If they don't, you should ask, "Is there anything that can't be fixed?" 3. Make sure they write down your request. They are a volume business, and while they care about you right now, they may (momentarily) forget as soon as you walk out the door. 4. You should come back to look at the refinished product before delivery. Just in case. Don't skip this step. In my case, the upholstery ended up being the minor snag. The more major snag was that even though I was promised everything would look like it more or less (within reason) went together, the first time I saw the refinished chairs and table, I had a panic attack. The good news is that I was able to talk to David, the owner, a saleslady whose name I've forgotten (she had great suggestions), and the guy who does the refinishing, and we worked out a solution. These guys aren't miracle workers, but they are darn near close. Everyone went to great extremes to make sure I was happy in the end. On a three-day holiday weekend. In time for our dinner party for 6. Bonus: If Darwin is working, his dog Max has an amazingly soothing effect when you get the total cost. Sticker shock has nothing on that little pooch. Make no mistake, this place ain't cheap, but it's worth every penny if you love midcentury/Danish modern furniture and you want something you can keep for a long time. If you don't believe me, spend a half hour here and then drive a mile and a half down the road to Ikea and compare. We will be back (my mom wants a new coffee table). read more

How can I be a mid-century junkie and have taken THIS long to discover MidCenturyLA?? My boyfriend and I walked in here with a mission and an agreement to not walk out with anything we didn't absolutely love... First of all, they have an INCREDIBLE selection, I have literally never seen so much danish modern furniture in one place in my entire life. At first I was a bit weary of the prices considering the condition of some things, but David the owner (who is basically the most unpretentious, nicest guy you could ever be buying furniture from) quickly told us that all the prices INCLUDE refinishing AND reupholstering in any fabric of your choice. WELL that just made the prices entirely reasonable considering I had been eying a danish modern table on craigslist that was $550 and needed a refinishing job that I got quoted between $650 and $1200 for - forget it. Granted, there were things that were out of our price range, but there really is something for everyone. David and Jeannie (also ridiculously awesome) not only spent a lot of time finding the right pieces for us (we bought an incredible dining table and chairs) but also knew our budget right upfront and worked with us on it and ended up giving us a insanely great deal on pieces we absolutely LOVE. It's the little things: getting an instant surge of happiness every time I look at the furniture we bought from them? That's a pretty awesome gift. So i came with a bud who is very much into outfitting his house with a euro style look. Apparently in his search for used danish style furniture he came across only two options in the greater los angeles area and this is one of them. I have to admit this place has a very large selection most of the furniture is in an unrestored state the price tags reflected the final restored state of the piece. He was looking for a sideboard piece and the prices seemed to range from a few hundred to a couple of thousand. I almost had a meltdown walking into this store. It is packed, PACKED with badass mid-century furniture. I kinda wanted to cry it was so beautiful (yes, I have a problem). To make it even better, the prices were actually reasonable. Every price included refinishing AND reupholstery -- making it easier to take something home that you love...but is currently covered in repugnant lime-green leather. I felt this place had the best mid-century deals in L.A. I ended up buying a cool little teak telephone table ($350) and they refinished it in about 2 hours. The people working there were very friendly and unpretentious. They had a huge selection. The majority of their furniture was tables, desks, sideboards, cabinets, and some dressers. These guys rock, both in terms of breadth of vintage collection and custom design/build of new furniture. I bought a remodeled 1890's Victorian flat in San Francisco and my designer found these guys as I looked to do a mid-century/industrial look. I bought vintage dining table and chairs; seemed virtually new - guests love it. Given quirky layout of my floor plan, I needed to get everything else custom. They built 2 sideboards to fit living room layout, coffee table and cal king bed frame with built in end tables, mostly all of rosewood. Their custom work was huge for me to be able to do a mid-century look w/ my limited floor plan. Fun to host parties as everyone wants to know where I got this stuff. I'd also be remiss for not calling out the customer service. These guys get it - both in terms of getting you what you want and making sure it works for you afterwards. They also readily arranged delivery to San Francisco at a reasonable price. read more

LISTEN TO ME! This place is AMAZEBALLS. After searching for a year for the perfect Midcentury credenza for an important spot in my new house, I found it here. AND their prices included refinishing AND they were able to fabricate the exact legs i wanted for the piece, at a reasonable extra cost. They went above and beyond in the refinishing, even doing a fabulous job in the interior of the four drawers! Simply perfect. NOW HERE'S WHY YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO ME: It is now 5 or 6 years later...in the middle of the night, I hear a crash so loud I jumped out of bed and ran to my living room. The legs on one end of the credenza (which is over 6 feet long) had snapped off--they simply gave out--Weird. Nothing had ever been changed or added to the credenza...no extra weight added..nothing. It just gave out in the middle of the night. ARE YOU STILL LISTENING? BECAUSE YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS...I sat down an composed an email to Midcenturyla explaining exactly what had happened and how devastated I was about it. Then I asked the question to which I dreaded the answer: "What do you think can be done to repair it and at what cost?" After a brief back and forth with the Owner, David Pierce, and sending some photos of the damage, he responded with "We'll come over and remove it, and then get it fixed, and return with it and install it AT NO COST TO YOU." AMAZEBALLS!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? A BUSINESS THAT STICKS BY ITS CUSTOMERS AND ITS PRODUCTS?!? IN THIS DAY AND AGE?! I remember my parents telling me about such customer service and how they remained loyal to those places for a lifetime because of it. This place used to be great. I bought a number of items from them a few years back and was happy. But having gone to a couple of their "sales" lately, I can say I'll never go again. Why not? Their prices have more than doubled since I last bought something here. It's way too much and all their "sale" items are banged up, stained or scratched. I've been in the process of buying a whole house of mid century furniture. In my search, I ran across MidCenturyLA. Initially, I was unsure of what to think of their site. Prices include refinishing, huh? No pictures of the completed product? I was skeptical. Especially as I've been burned by too many people passing off "refinished" or "excellent vintage condition" pieces. Well, I emailed them what I was looking for - a needle in a haystack. And guess what? They responded with pictures of SEVERAL options. Things I can't find in Nor Cal. Over the next month - yes month - we emailed back and forth. I changed my mind and they sent along new choices for my new needs. Not once did they give up on me, or comment that I was being difficult (yet, I knew I was). In the end, they put 2 pieces on hold for me while we tried to find a third that suited my needs. I even ended up down in LA on business a week ago. I told them I was coming by and wanted to see the pieces on hold and the other pieces we were debating. David and Margaret spent over an hour with me, looking through dozens of tables and chairs. This is where I talk about their facility. I have NEVER, NEVER seen a selection so large. You could spend over a whole day and still not see everything. If you want it, they have it - as long as it's Danish. No American made furniture here. And let's back track and talk about their customer service. This is the pinnacle of service. This is what EVERY store should aspire to be. They were responsive, communicative, helpful. They never commented about me asking too many questions, or changing my mind. I cannot tell you how many DOZENS of pictures I received from them. But you know what? When you're spending thousands of dollars on furniture, you want that type of customer service. And you know what? After being treated this way, everyone pales in comparison. I'm hooked. I'm a customer for life. And I'll agree with a reviewer below. David is such a nice, unpretentious guy. I can't imagine how he's managed to make this business what it is and still maintain that attitude. So many other dealers refuse to deal with long distance customers, or are snooty/snobbish. Not these guys. And the prices? Reasonable. They're not cheap - as you're getting a piece refinished. But they're not crazy either. As I said, I've been filling a whole house with mid century furniture. I know what's cheap, and what's expensive. MidCentury LA is reasonable for what you get. Our pieces are being refinished now. I saw one when I was down there last week. It looks BRAND NEW. It's crazy how good their work is. I can't wait to see the rest. And I can't speak to the speed of their refinishing or their shipping. So, I reserve the right to amend this review. But I don't think I'll have anything but more glowing comments to add. In the end, I cannot recommend them enough. I will be back. Again and again. We are restoring and furnishing a a midcentury house, and we have bought several beautiful pieces here. The prices are reasonable (and then discounted if you buy, say, a table and 6 chairs, whether they are part of a set or not). Selection is enormous. We have been several times and there are always many eye-catching new items. We have worked with David and Jeannie, and they are both very friendly and knowledgeable. We can't move in for a while, but they have let us keep our furniture there until we are ready for it, which is a real bonus since we have to move to a temporary place before the house is ready. I am in love with this place. Over the last two years I have purchased 2 credenzas, 3 couches, 2 chairs, 2 lamps and a bed. I am clearly a midcenturyLA junkie now. The selection is beyond what you can imagine...beyond!!! I can't decide if the customer service outweighs the beautiful and amazing furniture. I have NEVER been more sure that these people want you to be happy and satisfied when you leave. I swear they care more about that, then getting the sale. I have found at other similar furniture stores and attitude and arrogance that sends me right out the front door.
