Be very careful going up the ramp to the third level. It's a blind turn. It's narrow, and cars go in both directions.

I'm glad to see some good store at Midtown Crossing. I feel so bad for the tenants because the parking structure is ridiculous. So the stores are worth 5 stars, but the parking lot is a solid 1 star...and that's only because the parking is free. It's the most poorly designed parking lot I've ever seen. Really it is....and this is NEW construction, so there's no excuse for the major SNAFU they've created there. First of all, good luck actually getting IN the parking lot. If you're coming south on Rimpau, and you could drive straight, you'd drive right into the entrance. BUT, you can't do that. You MUST turn right , going west on Pico and completely miss the entrance, forcing you to make an illegal u-turn or find a way to turn around. Same goes for leaving the structure at the north entrance. You MUST turn east or west on Pico, but you can't go straight through to RImpau. So stupid. It might be a city thing, but they had plenty of time to plan this hot mess of a parking structure. The parking lot signage is sparse, confusing, and poorly displayed. Wait, it gets worse! Please see my pictures of the sharp turn going up the ramp to the third floor. You reach the top and take sharp a blind right turn. There are also cars trying to go down. That's when the fun begins. See my pics. You'll see for yourself how badly they screwed this up. Utterly ridiculous. Ludicrous. Seriously, a third grader could have done a better job planning. Can't believe all the millions spent and make such a serious oversight. The person who designed it must have never even seen a car before. Get this, they have a height clearance on the upper lot, that is OUTSIDE. Apparently the sky is only 8'4" there. See my pic. I suggest you enter and exit from Venice heading west if you can. The ramp is much wider...still a bit of a blind curve, but way safer than the other ramp. Again, I feel so bad for the tenants. There are some really nice stores there. Do try to patronize them. Just be super careful and patient trying to find your way into the parking structure and getting out of there again.

Where are the security staff? People are parked in the aisles where cars need to drive and cars parked in handicap spots where the disabled need to walk on! It's madness and not a single staff to support the customers. What on earth!?!?

Midtown Crossing is a new shopping complex development in what they call Mid-City. The Mid-City name comes from the fact that this area is centralized between downtown LA and Santa Monica (Makes sense right?). Midtown Crossing itself is a brand new 3 story shopping complex with tons of parking and a lot of new shops that are either open now or under development. The whole project has been underway since before 2006, and they had their grand opening on March 5. The most notable store in Midtown Crossing at the moment is a brand new Lowes Hardware store. If this store is any indication of what the final complex is going to look like then it's got a bright future. Lowes is often viewed as a more upscale version of Home Depot, and this store doesn't disappoint. It is massive in size, brightly lit, and filled with everything you can imagine. (Tip: when I was there today they were passing out $10 gift cards for getting on their mailing list. I love those new opening promotions!) Right next door they have a number of street level shops that were completed in 2006 as phase 1 of the project, such as Starbucks, AT&T, Foot Locker, Panda Express, etc. This whole area is definitely something to keep an eye on as the remaining shops in the main Midtown Crossing complex start to open up. Since it is on Pico, not far from the 10, it might even be a good place to stop and take a break for those commuters between downtown and the west side.

I don't think I go out of my way to visit the Grove, considering the distance and the difficulty of getting parking. Huge crowds, have to pay for parking, and even if you walk farther away, it's a risk to get towed and there's metered parking too that hit a 2 hour maximum, at least the last time I went there. Aside from accidentally wandering in here or being here for a specific event (seeing Yoshiki over a decade ago or the 20th anniversary Rilakkuma pop up, which was absolutely fisted with people), I've only wandered here on accident when hanging out with friends elsewhere. There's a good number of shops and eateries though, especially since it sort of shares the space/is right next to the Farmer's Market (great open area to go shop and to go dine). Large overlap of the same shops and eateries as the Americana, but there's things there that we don't have in Glendale. Lot of higher end businesses. Big fan of the La La Land Kind Cafe and what they do, their drinks, and their aesthetic. It's not a bad outdoors mall, considering how "fancy" it is, the fact that it's outside in the California sunshine, and the fountain with the Bellagio style musical water shows, but just know that the parking can get hideous.

That being said, ROW DTLA is a dreamscape when it comes to filming content and just catching city vibes in a safe space. Located near the Arts District this space of buildings used to be utilized for the textile industry. With multi floored buildings creating rows of foot traffic on the ground this space is perfect for events, pop ups, and get togethers. It's one of the reasons why Smorgasburg is held here on Sundays. It's why on any given weekend there may be an event being held, whether it be to celebrate AAPI month or the different creatives in the area. This space is filled with homegrown businesses and unique shops to visit. One of my favorite places is Hightide which is a Japanese stationary and supplies shop. The vibes are immaculate and walking in really feels like being in a store in Japan. Another popular space is Scent Bar for those who love perfume and are aromaphiles. With plenty of small curated artists being featured in this apothecary of aromas, Scent Bar is a nice stop whilst visiting the Row. If you're looking for interesting and discussion worthy furniture A+R is a must, located at one of the ends of the Row. For good coffee with artistic vibes you got to check out GGET (Go Get Em Tiger). Next to that if you're looking for stronger waters is Flask & Field with smaller batch and independent distilleries and crafters. All of this and the parking is free for the first 2 hours. In LA, that's unheard of! And it's a large parking structure with modern infrastructure. Blessed. With all this, hopefully ROW DTLA will continue to grow with more businesses and still retain its charm as time marches forward.
