It had been several years since my Olympia home's older tile roof, gutters, path pavers, house and…read morewindows had been cleaned. Moss and lichen were everywhere, as was debris from several large fir, cedar and other trees around my home. I asked John Mayes of Seattle Super Softwashing to tackle the roof to begin with, because his bid was a bit lower than other services I had contacted. But the longer I watched his work, his concern for quality and thoroughness, his communication with me as he completed things and his commitment to doing more and better work than I expected, the more I asked him to do. Before he left, we'd agreed on his doing the gutters, eaves, house sides, windows, paver paths and more. When he was finished, there was still a bit of moss and some lichen spots on the roof and elsewhere. He assured me they'd disappear in time. He said he'd return if anything grew back within the next year. That was 18 months ago. Nearly everything is gone now, including the many white spots that had been lichen on my 30+ year old concrete tile roof. I had John back to my home a few weeks ago to soft wash some fences. I want to repaint one, and now that he's soft washed it, all the organic matter seems gone, as does the loose paint. So I am set to prime and paint it with no further prep. The other fence he did looks almost newly painted except for a few spots badly stained. I don't need to repaint that one as I thought I might have to. I have not seen damage to plants from John's work, though I am no gardener and don't have lots of sensitive plants near the areas he's worked. John can be more engaging, more talkative, and more energetic than I've found to be the norm for home maintenance people. And he had some scheduling challenges coming to my home that is outside his normal service area. But he always did more than we contracted for. His prices were lower than other softwashing companies and he followed up to be sure his work was as complete, thorough and effective as he promised. I will hire him again.

For those of you whose project requires an inspection - be cautious when using this company…read more While the beginning conversations with Stephen and Blake saying the right things drew us in along with competitive pricing. The moment the when the work needed inspection from the city of Kirkland, which failed quickly. They shirked responsibility and took off with the money. Instead of owning up to their mistake and working to resolve the issue and pour concrete to spec, they never responded and instead blamed us as owners and GCs. Since we trusted them and gave them the full payment in good show of faith - we are now resolved to letting the courts handle it. We are now proceeding with other contractors.

After a full electrical install in my old 1930s house, I was left with more than 60 holes (5") on…read morethree levels, and a big concern was smoothing over lath and plaster work (in addition to beaverboard and standard drywall) as well as paint matching. Got several really good contractors off Yelp to come in and have a look, and bids were all over the place with no guarantees of plaster work or timing. Then, I met Blake the owner of Sandstone construction who was straight-up honest about the work required and confident his crew could handle the job. His bid was competitive and the timing was perfect (about two days later). I decided to go with Sandstone on this big project, and can say that the experience has been great with work coming out much better than expected. As the job began, the entire crew (Corso, Rick, Issac, Matt, Melissa, Steve, and others) were sealing up patches day by day. Then filling with sanding and buffing and then painting rooms by hand or spray machine. Finally, touchups to nearly all spaces in the house. The work lasted over 14 days, and this old house was transformed into something really special. The before and after pictures tell the story better than I can. Today, I look up at my coved ceilings and admire the high-quality workmanship. Without a doubt, I highly recommend Sandstone Construction for any of your bigger projects. Blake is not only a great listener but also is a down to earth individual with high character values. I remember Blake mentioning that he "doesn't have time to be dishonest," and got to see this in action when Blake joined his crew in painting till midnight to make sure the job was done on time as promised. Never have I seen construction company do that, so really a credit to Blake and crew on keeping up the momentum and finishing the work. In summary, I'm really grateful to Sandstone for taking the time and putting in the extra effort to make sure they delivered on high-quality work, on-time, and within budget. You will not be disappointed!

I individually interpreted his responses at several points in our phone conversation to be confirming to me that he was, in fact, a structural engineer. I did not go ahead with the appointment, because he grew evasive when I requested to be able to confirm his licensing status in advance of our meeting (he had agreed to bring his licensing info to the meeting). I finally looked online myself, and to the best of my ability to judge, his engineer license appears to have expired in August, 2002. Please also note that the license for the contracting company listed on this Yelp page appears to also have expired in 2021. (In our phone conversation, he indicated having come out of retirement, and that he was part of a new company. However, I did not receive enough information to independently verify that.)
