I was only there for a few moments until a ride picked me up to get to work. They called the next day to tell me what was wrong with the car and although the couldn't fix the problem they were super nice. So then I had to go there for AAA to tow my car to my mechanics. But as you know I didn't have a car anymore. They were more than a accommodating especially when I couldn't go when I scheduled to pick it up and they understood, all while not charging me storage. There are two woman who were working the two times I went there. Regrettably I didn't get their names but I believe one to be Patty (don't hold me to that but I think that's what she said when she answered the phone). Now let's just talk about the place itself for a bit. You may have noticed earlier I said the place was nice and clean. Most service places smell like Gad motor oil and look even worse. So I was already impressed and the bathroom smelled good and was cute. Also they have a homey feeling. There are these quotes all over the walls. But the attendant was non-communicative and dour-looking, not even responding to me when I tried to make small talk. (And here I was, upon pulling in to this station and seeing that this was a full-service station, how I told my kids in the car that this is how gas stations USED to be, with friendly attendants who filled the gas tank and washed the windows and even checked your tires' air pressure. At least, when I was growing up, this is how they were! Very Norman Rockwellian and reminiscent of Americana. Anyone out there remember the drinking glasses you used to get at old gas stations? And how friendly the attendants were? And helpful?). Anyhow, this attendant was the antithesis of that friendly attendant of yore. Very disappointing.

I went for my inspection today, the next to last day of the month. It's always a mad house on the…read morelast day if you haven't been. I only pulled in to this place because they didn't have a line down the parking lot. To make a long story short, the guy said if I had them replace one of my two reverse lights then he would give me a sticker even though the windshield washer doesn't work. Ehhhh... I can replace the light bulb in minutes and minimal cost myself, but now they have my car captive and want a premium for service I don't want. If I don't have the bulb replaced by them I have to not only replace the bulb but fix the windshield washer because it's now on the report. I appreciate that this place does a through inspection, I've lived in states where they don't inspect (AL) and it's scary. I don't appreciate feeling like i'm being asked to bribe the guy for a sticker, even if it is in a roundabout way. To make it better I get to visit them again in the next 60 days unless I want to pay to have the inspection done again somewhere else. If you're driving down the street looking for an inspection, there may be a reason why one place is dead quiet while the others are busy. I have four cars to inspect, I won't make this mistake with the others.

Hired this company to remove and repair some rust from the roof of my excursion. There was not much…read morerust, it was two coffee cup sized spots of surface rust middle of the roof so i drop it off... Six months go by the guy finally calls me and tells me the work has been finished. I picked my vehicle up only to find out one year later that he had painted over the rust, but charged me $2,000 regardless. So, thats $2,000 and 6 MONTHS for this guy to paint over two rust spots. The reason I know this is because the paint he used to cover up the rust peeled right off the roof of the vehicle. Pictured below is a baggie filled with the paint that dried up and fell off the roof of my car. They only do things right if you have large amounts of cash or otherwise look to have a large amount of cash i.e. an expensive insurance claim. Piece meal incomplete work at this location. Unless you have a hundred thousand dollar car that insurance is paying a blank check to this guy for repair, that's the only way I see it working out well for anybody else. Good luck. Rich was able to give me a full picture of how simple or complex it could be and the possible difference in cost and that it would take less than a day which made planning for being down a car a lot easier. Rich called me first thing the next day to tell me it was just the coding and he was able to fix it without changing out parts. No running circles or unnecessary upsells, just a good guy who has always been honest and as upfront as he can be about any repair. Rich is the old school type that is hard to find these days. An anecdote if you'll allow it: A millionaire's yacht engine breaks. No one can fix it; so they bring in a mechanic with 40 years experience. She looks the engine up and down, takes out a small hammer and gives it a few taps. The engine roars back to life! A week later our millionaire gets a bill for $10,000. He can't believe it; and asks for an itemized bill. What he gets back reads: Tap with hammer = $2. Knowing where to tap = $9,998. An inescapable fact: [modern] cars are expensive, complex machines. If they were simple, there'd be no need for mechanics. It's not the tapping that's expensive, it's knowing where and how to tap. Where I admit I struggled is that the fix was to reconnect the actuator, and the bill came back for $165 (all in - one hour of labor). Despite the price, I realize full well: 1. There was a process in getting to the issue, and then verifying it was fixed, involving both road and shop testing. 2. The reality was likely more technical that itemized in the invoice. My Ikea desk seems it would be ~10 parts coming together in under 30 minutes no sweat. In reality it took two people two hours, intermingled with profanities. 3. Tapping with a hammer (reconnecting a part) is easy, having the skill set to determine how and where to tap is not.
