There's even a section for individual drinks by the front door. The store was recently remodeled in the past few years, and the entrance looks great. There's always parking available, and the store can be easily reached through the main driving loop throughout town. This location is always clean and uncrowded, and the employees are helpful if you ever need anything. Town and Country is definitely a hidden gem, and well worth the trip if you ever need to drop by.

We were looking for a different bakery that apparently went out of business. We just happened to walk past this shop. We asked a woman sitting outside where we could get coffee, and she pointed inside the door of this shop. We asked some people working inside if they had coffee. Marcie immediately said she would make a fresh pot, and asked us to sit down. We sat down at one of the small tables. I looked in the bakery case, and saw some delicious-looking brownies. I told Marcie we would like two brownies. Marcie said that those brownies were a couple days old, but she had a new batch that was fresh out of the oven, and would we like a couple of those. We said yes. She gave us a choice of nuts or no nuts, and inside or edge brownies. We went for inside, with nuts. The brownies were warm, chewy and delicious. We spent the next 30-45 minutes talking with Marcie. She had recently returned to the Houston after living in San Francisco a few years. Marcie told us about starting the bakery within this storefront, which also offered crafts and essential oils made within a 30 mile radius. She told us about making cupcakes for a community event, someone's wedding cake, and other offerings. A local come in for coffee and some more fudge. We talked with him too. When we left Marcie gave us some free coconut caramel bars. Three things really impressed me about this shop. One is that instead of offering us older brownies and coffee, she offered us the freshest and very best. Second, the brownies were scrumptious and the coffee was very good. She plans to later offer a full service coffee bar. Third, we had a great time talking with Marcie and learning about life in Houston. What a welcome break from hours of highway driving., The bakery shop is not large, nor the selection huge, but our visit there was memorable. We will definitely return if we pass through Houston again.

I guess you can say that the Johnson Brothers were checking out the Richard Brothers. No, not that way, get your head out of the gutter. We heard tell that the bakery held within its display cases a certain local delicacy that had to be seen, and tasted, to be believed. So we wound our way through the 1960 style market until we found ourselves standing at our destination. Upon looking in the display case, we saw what we came for. The ultimate of ultimates, the belief beyond beliefs, the glory of glorious, the one and only, glazed crosaunts. They were lovingly splayed on two shelves of trays, patiently awaiting these two customers in particular, to make a monetary transaction, and take them home. Thus it was so. A funny thing, there was a list on the outer case stating what kind of pastries that were offered for sale. We studied it trying to find the special name given to these wonders, (as we didn't want to look like a couple tourists), but couldn't find one. We did see a generic crosaunt, but thought, nah, that couldn't be it. So I asked the nice attendant behind the counter "what do you call these things"? She looked at me, like, huh? Why, these are crosaunts she said. Cover blown. The crosaunt was huge! Far bigger than ordinary. My brother said that back at the old home place, they would call these "bigerns", (translation big ones....with a southern twang) where he comes up with this stuff I don't know. Of course the "bigerns" were melt in your mouth delicious. Like eating flavored air. I highly recommend picking up a few, or a dozen, for their shelf life is almost non existent. The trays barely have time to get sticky. I should give them more than 3 stars, but for lack of promotion, the Richard Brothers are leaving a lot of money on the table. Something the Johnson Brothers would never allow to happen. Properly promoted, the lone nameless crosaunt, could revitalize the economy of this sleepy town square. For instance: Mountain Grove, home of the BIGERN! Hey Mr.. Richard Brothers, If you bake it, they will come.
