I attended the Flower Festival last weekend and could not have been happier or surprised with the experience! (I drove from Oklahoma!) My bonus daughter and I met my son there, and we spent a good part of the day just exploring, enjoying, and learning! The food trucks were amazing! The music was beautiful, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the grounds were immaculate. Truly, it felt like we were at Silver Dollar City for gardeners! We meandered around the property, looking at all the greenhouses, booths, stores, and exhibits. We ended up making three trips to the car to drop off our new gardening goodies! We weren't expecting the various musical platforms, which sent our overall impression of Baker Creek Seeds even higher than it already was! We all came home happy, with full tummies and lots of tried-and-true (and many NEW) packets of seeds to try this year! If you are looking for heirloom seeds, knowledgeable gardening advice, and an exceptional experience, look no further than Baker Creek! I don't often get the time to sit and write a thoughtful review on companies... but Baker Creek Rare Seeds was worth the time to review. I LOVE THIS COMPANY! I purchased from Baker Creek recently for the first time. The instability of things right now and the price of food has spurred me into more gardening than I have in years past. They have an interesting variety heirloom seeds, and some "bare root" plants and there was a number if things that caught my eye. I purchased two types of strawberries, two types of raspberries, and some boysenberries. Due to the issues currently happening with the USPS (some towns not even receiving mail for months on end) the shipment was delayed and many of the plants became decayed. I reached out to customer service with some photos the day of unpackaging and they replaced THE ENTIRE ORDER. I felt so guilty as I am trying to support small business not hurt them, and this was a shipping issue not a product issue. Jake in customer service assured me he was happy to replace the order and that I would not be charged a cent. I honestly can say that Jake and the rest of the Baker Creek customer service team are the kindest most responsive customer service people I have ever encountered. This company is incredibly professional. They live their values and provide an amazing product! As for the second batch of plants- they were pristine and green! Sowing the seeds of love, or in this case seeds of viola, California poppy, cosmos, petunia and salpiglossis. Hello my name is Sharon and I'm addicted to garden shows. Some would say my addiction isn't as bad as being addicted to something else, I would say it has more to do with my childhood. I grew up in a modest house with an immaculate southern California garden complete with quirky Hollywood Junipers and a rose garden whose specimens included the beautiful Sterling Silver hybrid. It was stunning and would stop housewives in their tracks when they strolled past my house. The front lawn was flawless thanks to dad's relentless weekend mowing, gas powered of course (I miss you dad!) And the back yard, well it was equally impressive: citrus and apricot trees, raspberries, strawberries and a cut flower garden of zinnias and cosmos. Besides me and my little sister, the gardens were mom's pride and joy and the apples didn't fall far from the tree. Sis and I spent countless hours in the garden, with or without mom. We learned seed starting and growing food from seed at a very early age. Beans, tomatoes, carrots and radishes; sweet peas, poppies, daisies, and all sorts of squash varieties. Obviously my childhood is where my obsession began and today's garden shows magically take me back to the days of growing up in So Cal. I'm looking forward to the flood of memories that will rush my brain when I dive into planting seeds from Baker Creek. Is it just me, or do seed packets conjure up childhood nostalgia sort of like old pictures in a photo album? All good feelings and a whole lotta fun too. I've grown stuff from Baker Creek in previous years, and will do again this year. But for whatever reason, I hadn't yet made a purchase until this year. Oh, I for sure have known about them for years, and have swapped seeds for some of their stuff. And I definitely have seen their catalog--if you haven't read through the big catalog, or their for-purchase "Whole Seed Catalog" then you're really missing something. So this year, I got on it early (as the last year and this have been wild in the seed business) and made my order. When I ordered, they said it could take up to a month, but I got my shipment in about a week. Now, I will need to update this review after the growing season, but I order from a few different sources, so here's what I know right away after years of growing their stuff and from shopping incessantly all winter. First, the popular stuff goes fast. Despite the very shiny marketing and the very interesting descriptions, they are not a massive operation and you need to order early. Second, they like the weird stuff. I like the weird stuff. It's a good match. But if you're a beginner gardener, you might want to pick the normal stuff, or use a supplier that sticks to the normal stuff. The weird stuff is often (but not always) a bit more finicky to grow. I think it's worth it, but I like the challenge sometimes. Third, you need to take everything you read with a grain of salt. Like fishing lures that are designed to catch fishermen, it is well understood in the garden seed world that marketing is over-the-top. Sometimes with their stuff, because it's weird, you need to read between the lines. If something has "a subtle flavor" that means it doesn't taste like much. If something is "really prized for its taste in XYZ country" it means you may not like it at all. I love this about seed catalogs and this is not unique to Baker Creek, but they really exemplify this trait. We'll revisit at the end of the growing season to see what we learn, but I'm way excited to have some incredible new seeds to add to my growing, growing collection. read more

Last year I visited Baker Creek Seeds for their tulip festival. It was definitely packed, but getting to see the unique varieties of tulips was worth it. They had a lot of cool and unique vendors at the event. The store was absolutely packed and although I didn't buy any seeds for myself, I enjoyed looking at the beautiful varieties available. The location has a lot of old timey buildings where I assume house different stores or shops, restaurants, etc. In the springtime it is gorgeous. From what it looks like, they hold events fairly often. If you're in the Southwest Missouri area and are interested in gardening, heirloom seeds, etc., this is the place to go! It is awesome to have how this world-class seed business located nearby. read more

Inspired by gardening videos, I decided to plant vegetables and flowers from seeds this year. Bakers Creek Heirloom Seeds was mentioned in a few videos, so I figured it was a reputable business.  It was also nice to notice many positive Yelp reviews! On 4/5/22, I placed my order online and received a confirmation email.  Later that day, I received an email that my seeds were already on their way.  USPS delivered my order on 4/9/22.  Pretty quick service! The shipping was free.  I received a free package of poppy flower seeds with my order.  A very pleasant surprise!  April weather was pretty miserable, and I recently started planting seeds in May. I've ordered before and not had an issue. I place an order for seeds on March 2nd. The order totaled $30.78. I've yet to receive my seeds. On March 11th, I was told they were in Cincinnati, Ohio. That's 3 hours from me. Today I went to my local post office to see if they could assist. They said the tracking number is not even a USPS number. They said even if they mailed it in bulk, I would have had that package by now. The customer service is so hard to contact. It's just email. Pretty much ruined my seed starting this year. read more

This review is for their online shopping experience only. I wish there was an A to Z category or way to view all their products, however I guess that is why they sell a catalog. The next best tool would be looking up blogs or YouTube's that feature Baker creek products and searching for those items on their website. I highly recommend making a login account as it saves your shopping cart so long as you're...logged in. Customer service: EXCELLENT, A1, 5 stars, 10's across the board. I went on a seed shopping spree twice because one go at it wasn't enough lol. Both packages arrived promptly and I love that they included a free seed variety per each order. One item was missing in my order, I called the number provided on the packing slip and it was pointless since I didn't know anyone's extension number and there wasn't an option to leave a voice mail. So I emailed them using whatever email listed on their website. In less than 24 hours I received a reply from Randel with such a genuine message and immediate no hassle resolution. I really appreciate excellent customer service like this and for that alone I will 100% continue supporting and loving this business. Yes, their products are fantastic and I can say so is their customer service. While nothing is perfect, nothing is 100%, I'll say Baker Creek is basically heaven on earth perfection. I just attended Baker Creek's 2022 Tulip Festival in Mansfield, MO. It was fantastic and oh so crowded. It seemed they didn't realize how much interest there would be! I have been buying their seeds since 2010 when I lived in NY. Germination rates for the seeds I'd bought have generally been good--enough that I continue buying from them. I've even read their book, Heirloom Life Gardener. During the Tulip Festival, they had tours of their raised garden beds and some of the greenhouses. There were vendors (mostly crafts, snacks, and plants), a couple food trucks, a restaurant (whose line was way too long), live music, and you could walk around the grounds and see all the livestock. The seed store sold seed packets for $2 each. If you get a chance to visit and love seeds, go! read more

What a fun place, "way" off the beaten path but neat. We stopped by on the way home to STL from Branson. Only a short detour off the interstate. This farm is located in Mansfield and yes it is the same Heirloom seed company that sends out those catalogs yearly. If you are look to grow an heirloom seed and can't find it in the stores, this is the place to go. They have shelves full of seed packets and everything you would think to find in a vintage farm store. We purchased seeds to everything from tomatoes, melons, flowers and even bulbs for garlic. The story of the farm is great. Small town family with a "big" idea that makes it big. There is a small theater in the back of the general store that shows the story. On the Sunday we visited, the restaurant was closed unfortunately, but the Apothecary was open and so was the Bakery. Oh my the bakery smelled wonderful. Home baked bread, cookies and pies in the store. In season the farm must be teaming with flowers and vegetables. There is a "pioneer" village which is made to look like an old town. There is no admission, but buy something while you are there. Watch out for the horse and buggies while driving to the farm. There are lots in the area. My girls already want to visit again... I think though mostly for the bread and cookies! read more

I Love the wide selection of seeds, the free shipping and so far the quality of the seeds. On the other hand, it annoys me greatly that there is no planting information on many of the seed packages I ordered. When I'm ready to plant, I I'm ready to plant. When I'm ready to order I go to the site or the catalog. At the time of ordering is when I am reading and researching. The need to read/research and write down instructions is not appreciated when I'm ready to plant. I'd be happy to pay another 5,10 or even 25 cents per packet, to have the instructions printed on them. Maybe I just picked the wrong varieties? read more

Two batches of bad seeds from the same order. I purchased two sets of seeds from Baker Creek, one was the Atomic Tomato, the other was the Traveler tomato. My background, I'm an organic gardening specializing in edible design build landscaping for over 15 years now and always start my vegetables from seed and was referred by a good friend to checkout Baker Creek Seeds so I did. First off the Atomic tomatoes which I planted in five different gardens (clients gardens all not connected in any way) 60% of the Atomic tomatoes developed Vermiculite Wilt resulting in the plants needed to be destroyed. I've worked for these clients for many years and understand the importance of crop rotation, one was even planted in the newly constructed bed all fresh soil and pow Vermiculite Wilt. Seeds were not all started around the same time did two batches a month apart. Second, the Traveler tomato doesn't at all resemble what a true traveler tomato looks like, fruit is just an everyday round tomato. Furthermore the plants only grew three feet tall bushy but stunted looking. Does produce very well but not what I ordered or payed for. Overall with the two packs of tomato seeds purchased which both being total fails I have to say wont be doing business with Baker Creek in the future. read more

I love these guys, but my heart is breaking. My very favorite part of the year is mid-September, when they hold the National Heirloom Expo at the Santa Rosa fairgrounds. I have taken time off from work every year this festival has been in existence (with the exception of 2017, when I was working in construction and we were impossibly short on help), and have loved every minute there. The people that run the fair, the vendors, the visitors, the musicians, the speakers, are all my people, and that means like-minded on ALL topics. The last few years I have simply bought the full three day ticket, because I cannot get enough of the joy and energy there. Not to mention the fact that I come home with bags of seeds, produce, t-shirts, books, moringa trees, tooth cleaning solutions (Rupam!), body lotions, soaps...where do I end this list? Having said this, my heart is breaking because yesterday would have been the final day of this year's fair, had it not been cancelled due to the Scamdemic. This is the second year that we have not had this magnificent event, and I fear that it will never happen again. For me, it's like a death in the family, or of a dear friend. I also miss seeing the Gettles, and the friends that show up with them from their hometown in Missouri. I just hope and pray that someday we can get it back. I miss it more than anything. read more

If you're a small market farmer seeking to purchase seed sales tax free, then don't count on Baker Creek to help you. Obviously, they cannot look up your account information by your name, only by an old email account that wasn't migrated with their system, that they have no visibility over. Better said, they can't be bothered to look up the account information to help your small potato operation. Besides, their customer service sucks. No one answers the telephone. Drive down the hilly highway to the gravel drive on a festival day, and you will find a great crowd awaiting your arrival. It's like taking a trip into the past, much better and more authentic than Silver Dollar City. Their cafeteria is pay what you want, two menu choices with always a vegan option. So fresh and delicious, too! We luckily live just an hour away from this farm. The people and family is very friendly and helpful. Their seeds and plants are amazing. Our garden at home has flourished, thanks to Baker's heirloom seeds that grow strong. Such a gem of the Ozarks!
