I had gone in August of 2024 while on holiday in Canada. Here is my in-depth review as I tried each dish. Omurice was good but I wished there was a bit more ketchup spread evenly. I really enjoyed the spam included in the omurice. Mushrooms were delicious, like it belonged in a pasta. Nicely seasoned and was well balanced with the rice. Miso soup wasn't too salty and the tofu was a good size. Sponge cake was light and not too sweet. it would be paired nicely with a tea. the design is quite cute. My favorite was definitely the pudding. It was very creamy, and the syrup was perfect. The dessert reminded me of a crème brûlée. This is the best pudding I've ever had. I'd come back to this place if I was ever in the area, and was wanting a comforting quick bite. Pork floss and sesame was an interesting one. Pork floss isn't something new to me, and i'm familiar with the taste. What I wasn't expecting was how the sesame oil would change how it would taste. Of course the texture is dry as it is pork floss. Though it is not my taste, I think trying new things makes life worth living. As I kept eating it, I enjoyed it more. The sesame oil is very tasty. I think a brisket and sesame would be amazing. Butter cookies were nice too. The cocoa was buttery with a light chocolate taste and the matcha one wasn't too bitter either. Again paired best with a tea. Though I'm not unfamiliar with onigiri, I usually have trouble trying not to break the seaweed wrap while opening it. the owner had helped me find an easier way to open it without tearing. They have a general menu but they often try to rotate their flavors every day. I would come back here with friends if I'm back in Canada so they could try the onigiri and pudding!

Have been longing for the opening of this Japanese origiri rice ball place on Main Street in Newmarket! How refreshing to have Asian food along Main Street where the majority of the restaurants are western pubs/burgers. We came here on a Friday at around 4-5pm, as an early dinner. We didn't want to come any later since the place closes at 7pm and we also wanna make sure the ones we wanted are still available. Upon entering this cute and cozy shop the male owner greeted us politely with a smile. Luckily the three that we wanted to try were available. We ordered a shiitake mushroom, a grilled salmon and a spicy tuna mayo. They ranged from $4-$4.5 each, and there's a buy three get a pop/miso soup for free promo. And we opted to dine in and ordered a pop. They accept credit cards too except Amex. The owner was so nice and offered us free cookies and miso soup as well!! There were around ten tables of 4 including some higher tables that let you sit by the window that looks out on Main Street. Onto the origiri, we both enjoyed the shiitake mushroom very much, flavorful. Despite getting close to end of day, I don't feel that the rice is dry/hard at all. Enough mushroom for every bite. The spicy tuna mayo and grilled salmon were normally decent but not out of the world and same as what you would have expected, I prefer the spicy tuna mayo. grilled salmon has chunk of salmon in the middle and then has some sort of terrakayi sauce, I probably would prefer more salmon and maybe mashed and mixed in with the sauce similar to the tuna mayo. The free cookies that the owner offered also taste legit. Feel home made. Not overly sweet. There's candied ginger, coffee, matcha, and chocolate. All are good. It's a really nice place for some grab and go or light snack/refreshment. Not only do they offer origiri, but also some cookies, pudding etc. great spot for hanging out with friends. The friendliness of the owner made it an even better visit. Will wanna come again to order shiitake mushroom and try out other flavors! FYI All their origiri are cooked except the one with tobiko, which is cured.

Highly recommend! Good variety of Onigiri and dessert and cookies ! You can see food freshly prepare. Customers coming in steadily address the owner Thomas by his name ! I think those are repeat customers. Inside sitting area spacious and clean ! 5 Star ! Kids enjoy the free of charge game while we wait for the food. Washroom very clean that you can tell the owner care about details .

Saw this recently opened onigiri place and it did not disappoint! I tried the Grilled Salmon and Shiitake Mushroom and they were both really good even though I ate them four hours later! The proportion was pretty good too! There was enough filling and you wouldn't feel like you're eating just a bunch of rice. The place looks really cute and clean too. Service was really good! The person who served me took his time to explain the different flavours and was kind enough to give me some free cookies! They were delicious! Everything is made fresh daily! Would definitely come back to try more onigiris or even their cheesecake!

Supermoon Japanese Style Cheesecakes

(5 reviews)

I have been a fan of Supermoon Japanese-style Cheesecakes since I first learned about its original…read morestore in Streetsville (Mississauga) many moons (haha!) ago. It then opened another location in Mississauga at Erin Mills Town Centre. I have also been to that location. Several months ago, I learned that a third location had opened up in Newmarket. Considering that this store and I are in York region, it is likely the closest one for me to get my cheesecake and cheese tart fixes. My original intent was to drop by this store in February. During the Family Day weekend, I had scheduled a pickup order on Family Day. Due to a glitch in Supermoon's ordering system, it should not have allowed me to place an order that day. All three locations were closed for the holiday. I had two folks from Supermoon promptly contact me to determine whether I wanted to do a different pickup day or cancel. Since I was travelling a few days later, I knew that I couldn't devour all my goodies before I departed, so I cancelled. I already knew that customer service would be stellar. I hadn't even set foot in this store yet! Last month, I finally made the drive up to Newmarket. This store is on the east side of Bayview Avenue at Stonehaven Avenue. It's near a rather new-looking Tim Hortons. I find that you need to pay attention while in the parking lot. There is steady business at the Timmy's, especially at the drive-thru, that you are competing with traffic to park across from it. There are limited spots in front of Supermoon, so parking further away is your better option. I backed into a spot. I also witnessed folks backing out of spots and dealing with Timmy's customers wanting to accelerate out of the plaza as quickly as the caffeine from their drinks was going into their bloodstream. It was interesting, but crazy and a tad scary. I placed an order online for four cheese tarts (two chocolate and two original ones) and a Mr Jigglesworth plushie. He is Supermoon's mascot. I have eyed getting one for a long time. At the store, I had the nicest woman help me with my order. I let her know that I was here for a pickup. Online on Supermoon's site, you specify the time and date when you plan on dropping by. She found my order that was ready in two branded bags. Yay! I paid with a debit card. I tapped and all was great. If you do get a cheesecake, remember to tear off the cardboard moon on the box's lid. If you collect ten of these cardboard moons, you get a free cheesecake. I am still not there yet, but I hope to get a free cheesecake before this decade is over. I love the cheese tarts. You get a lot of the creamy cheese filling. There's a hint of saltiness in the crust that I enjoy. I can't decide whether I like the chocolate or original more, which is why I tend to get both. They are delicious and consistent. Mr Jigglesworth is cute. I love his ears and Supermoon apron. He is a nice addition to my ever-growing plushie collection. I'm so happy that I have a closer Supermoon to visit. I hope to stop by again soon for new cheesecake flavours and more cheese tarts. (122)

I was recommended this place through my social media and I just happened to be in the area so…read moredecided to pop in and see what the hype was about. This place is located on the east side in a plaza with Tim Hortons and a supermarket called "The Ranch". Opening the door to this place you are instantly lifted away in the distinct aroma of Japanese Cheesecake goodness. The cake baking area is open concept so you can see all the magic happening right before your eyes. There was nothing cooking when I arrived but of course they were well stocked up in their shelves. The flavors on rotation included original, lemon raspberry and mocha and I ended up getting the lemon raspberry cheesecake and also a side of butter cookies. Honestly everything here looked well presented. There is nothing pretentious about this place and is an open book. Good solid Japanese style cheesecake. Which I would like to remind folks that I think this may be the only place in Newmarket that makes this stuff! Though uncle who-su may be one of the O.G Japanese style cheesecake places Supermoon definitely has a spot on my list now. They also have limited time flavors sprinkled through out the year so you should definitely check out their social media as well!
