I am going to share a story with you, bcs we're homies and I feel like I can tell you this, even though it is an embarrassing childhood memory. When I was about 12 or 13, I was standing in line to get a CD signed. Probably Korn or Green Day. Lame. Anyway, I was with a couple friends, and one of them suddenly squinted at my face and then laughed and pointed and said really loudly, "Oh my god, Hannah has a beard!" Somehow, puberty had snuck up on me in a place where I wasn't expecting. My chin. But this wasn't the peach fuzz most girls are used to, this was a small scattering of dark, thick single hairs. Totally visible from a distance. Because God decided to bless me with almost translucently pale skin and mega dark hair. So, that night, I started plucking those bastards and never looked back. Thanks for listening. Anyway, as the years went on, I noticed something: if I skipped plucking for a while, the hairs were coming back with a vengeance. No longer the small scattering, it would be a veritable patch of hair. Waxing would yield the same results: my lip would stay light and fuzzy, but my chin just wanted to channel it's inner billy goat. Yay. Sexy. My beloved waxer at Harmony Spa recommended I look into electrolysis. She rents out her space to Khatuna, owner of Oxy Bella. So let me be clear: These are two totally different businesses operating out of the same space. They don't even share the front desk. Khatuna is AMAZING. This is professionalism and knowledge at a level that you just don't find a lot these days. She did a free consult, where she looked at my chin and discussed my heritage, my hair growth patterns, and my current strategy for hair removal. Plucking, ladies? It's a BAD THING. Apparently it can stimulate the follicles and cause even more growth. Khatuna begged me to tell everyone I know that if you're plucking, you should stop. And that was the thing I liked most about her. She was super honest, and very interested in teaching, not just treating. After our sessions, she sat with me and we talked about my progress and what I could expect. The electrolysis itself? Well it didn't tickle, that's for sure. It kind of feels like a bee sting. The needle going in isn't that bad, but then it feels like it gets super hot for a split second, so it's like a little pinchy-burny sensation. She works on a timer, usually 15 minute sessions. And trust me, 15 minutes is about all I could handle. Price came to about $75. Cash or check only!!! I've done two sessions so far. After the first, I had a tiny bruise on my chin--the result of my paleness and anemia, probably. It faded after a couple days. Both times I had mega redness, but that faded within an hour or less. Best of all, my skin was so smooth and even and lovely! After a while, the hairs that weren't killed the first time came in, and I just had them taken care of. I did not touch my tweezers between treatments! I may need a couple more sessions, but then I should have a permanently hairless chin!!! I feel so much better about myself and I'm really glad I found Khatuna. I'm already thinking about going to her for more sessions (permanently hairless bikini, anyone?) Highly highly highly recommended. If you've ever considered electrolysis, I think Oxy Bella is the place to go. And if you're plucking your face, STOP! read more

I can't speak to Khatuna's electrolysis ability because I only went to her about 5 times. Her personality made me uncomfortable and I couldn't continue the sessions. 1. She kept having this convo with me over and over again: "What is your ethnicity?" "Spanish." *disappointed* "oh, you don't look Spanish." "I mean, European Spanish." "Ooooh, the good kind!" *my obvious discomfort* "You know it's true." Gotta love some good old fashioned racism. 2. She would literally get mad at me and sort of yell at me whenever I was in pain during the sessions. She would get mad that I didn't show up an hour before my session so she could set a numbing cream. Because I have two hours of my life to dedicate to a single appointment, right? read more

So here's the deal. Having hair in weird places as a female basically ruins your self esteem. You feel unattractive and insecure every time you look in the mirror. I felt this way for a long time in my mid 20s as all the hormones did their crazy thing. Then I met Khatuna. I swear to god she has changed my life and the way I feel about myself. She's understanding and very warm and is the only person I would trust to touch my body with that electrolysis needle. She not only is excellent at her profession, she's honest and communicative. She understands your needs and does everything she can to make you feel beautiful while doing it. I've been seeing her since May and have had incredible results. I think I'm going to continue with electrolysis after this area is completed, mostly because I can't imagine going longer than a week without seeing her... but, also because I know the results will be perfect. Call her now, you won't regret it! She's the best. read more

I have only seen Khatuna once out of my 3 groupon package. She was absolutely great in explaining everything + the importance of aftercare (aloe & SPF). I was hesitant about buying 30 min sessions, since I don't really think it would make a dent in my lush hair growths BUT Khatuna cleaned me up quite nicely in that time. She was also a pleasure to get to talk to in general! While I can't speak for results just yet, I am pleased to say that I healed quickly and without hyper pigmentation. read more

Update: Did heal, just took a few months. My skin may have just been exceptionally sensitive during treatment or something. At Oxy Bella, you're getting stellar service, especially for the price. read more

This review is long overdue and so is my gratitude for Khatuna's work! She picked up the slack of the two previous electrolysis pro I used to go to and gave me back some hope! I saw results within 3 sessions (facial sessions). Hair grew back thinner and thinner and then not at all! I am biracial (black and white) and despite what I have read before I gave her a chance (also used to work in the same building, so made it easy) and never looked back! She was friendly enough and to be frankly honest, I was there to have this thing done by someone who knows their stuff and she simply did! The process took a few months, making appointments was easy for me and 2 years later I'm still hair free so those a WELL DESERVED 5 stars! read more

This place is clean and nice. Electrolysis is very efficient, I got rid of some hairs caused by laser treatment, that doesn't supposed to be there.. Khatuna cleaned them all. 5 sessions and bam like a baby.. Also did some facials, very professional job... Love love love it!!!! read more

Khatuna is good at electrolysis, but don't trust her with vouchers. She does not respect the terms of those offers, and the room where she operates is the size of a closet, whose only access to fresh air is the door, which of course is always shut, so you can imagine the air quality in there and the heat that can develop. I've had much better. Last but not least, in my opinion tips are for people who are employees, not for independent professionals who can set their own fees. In my past experiences independent professionals do not accept tips even when they are insistently offered. It has happened to me with tour guides and massage therapists. Khatuna makes it very clear that she is an independent professional and yet she requires a tip before letting you out. read more

BEWARE!!!!!!! 1. If you are African American or a person with a non-white skin tone, then don't even think about going here. She will not give you any service. 2. If you want to go to someone who's trustworthy/professional, then again, don't think about going here, because she will lie about what service she does. I've never written a Yelp review, but I want others to be aware of this business.... I've had electrolysis done multiple times before with no issue. My favorite electrologist had moved away so I'm in search for a new one. She used the blend method, which I've found to be the most successful method. I decided to check out coupons on Groupon and found this business. About 1 month ago I had asked her what method does she do, and she told me the BLEND method. Nice! But I couldn't go to her that month for personal reasons. One month later, I had finally purchased the Groupon and contacted her asking for an appointment. She responds, "Please let me know what is your skin color, if you are healthy or taking any medication." I tell her that I am black, I am healthy, and I am not taking any medication. She replies back, "We do thermolysis method of electrolysis and unfortunately it's not good for skin type 6, which is black. You may scar or pigment from the heat, which is delivered in hair folicule." Huh? I'm not even skin type 6. So then I tell her that I've asked her a month ago what method did she use and she told me the blend method, and asked if her method had changed. And I also told her that I've gotten thermolysis done before but I didn't scar, though all of the hairs came back. It has been a day and I haven't gotten a response from her (I had sent the email mid afternoon too, and she was originally replying back promptly). Also a side note -- I've done a lot of research on electrolysis. You do NOT scar from thermolysis - yes you may get a few scabs but they go away. Matter of fact, many experts state that you do not scar if you GO TO A GOOD ELECTROLOGIST. It's called overtreatment. Search it up if you don't believe me. read more

Oxy Bella - First message from a month ago - Hair Removal Near Me - Manhattan, New York

See all

Went in with a Groupon deal for chin extension electrolysis appointment. I have to say the place is clean, pleasant and the service is wonderful. Khatuna explained everything clearly, patiently and thoroughly. Plus she is sweet and genuinely seems to want to get to know you. She has a good bedside manner and is honest. I've had laser before (6 sessions with Deify) and my hair came back thicker because of it. Laser hurts a lot, but surprisingly electrolysis was not even as bad as a pinch in comparison. I need more treatments and I wish I had come here before trying laser hair removal. I loved her demeanor and expertise. I look forward to coming back and getting rid of my chin hair forever. Highly recommend this place! read more

Amazing results! My entire face was full of deep inner blackheads and scaring from acne, the dermabrasion has not only helped me with my blackheads but has also reduced my breakouts and post acne scaring. My skin barely has any blackheads left and is much smoother and evenly toned now. I'm extremely happy with the results. So far Khatuna is the only one who offers this kind of treatment with dermabrasion in NYC. I would highly recommend it to everyone and my friends because it's totally worth it! read more

I am coming to Khatuna for almost a year. She is amazing. She is true professional. Very sensitive to my needs. The results are great. The atmosphere is great, she works fast and not waisting any time. I am highly recommend her services. read more

I had been thinking about electrolysis for several years and made many mistakes before I found Khatuna. She's an excellent electrologist that cares about her clients as whole body patients. I've always felt insecure about my facial and body hair to the point of being embarrassed even to show a professional. About a year ago I was working at a spa and an Esthetician offered to give me laser for free. I thought "wow to never have to wax or thread my face again - amazing!!". It was a huge mistake. After several treatments the peach fuzz I had been concerned about turned into inch long dark whiskers. I was terrified. That's when I stumbled upon OxyBella and I really love the whole place. Khatuna even gave me ideas of natural products to heal rather than just Neosporin which causes me to breakout. Electrolysis isn't painless but because of the rapport we've developed I look forward to going to each visit. I have a few more sessions for my face and will definitely be using electrolysis on other areas. One thing I really like is that Khatuna explains everything simply and makes you feel comfortable. For me and I think for many women this is a very personal experience where you're exposing a vulnerability and it's nice to know that there's someone you can trust on the other end of the procedure. On another point, her billing process is different from other electrolysis locations. She bills by the time which always you to triage areas of concern and personal body timeless. Other places offer set packages based on certain areas of the body and a set number of sessions. I prefer the flexibility to be able to decide based on how my own body is reacting to the treatment. read more

Khatuna is simply AMAZING. She's truly an expert at what she does. The place is super clean and the prices are also great, especially for the quality you are receiving. Electrolysis is normally a painful process...but Khatuna makes the whole process seamless and nearly painless. I saw dramatic improvements with my facial hair and even my skin after just a few sessions. Wouldn't trust anyone else but Khatuna for electrolysis! Highly recommend. read more

I have experienced the work of several electrolysis practitioners over the years-- but I keep returning to Oxy Bella. No online discount deal can tempt me anymore... Khatuna is unsurpassed in her skill level. She is highly focused, accurate, thorough and mercifully quick without sacrificing any quality in her work. Highly professional all around. Her space is clean, bright and welcoming. Pricing very reasonable. All methods of hair removal have their pros and cons. Everyone's skin profile is unique. Electrolysis will permanently remove unwanted hair-- and what laser cannot-- and Khatuna educates us as to what is appropriate for our particular case, including what will and will not work, and why. Go for it! read more

This is an amazing treatment!!! I'm on my 3rd treatment of the particle free dermabrasion and I already can see a big difference in my skin, especially for my sun spots which have become much more noticeable in my early 30's. They are slowly fading away and my skin feels much more moisturized. People keep commenting on how I look younger! I also loved this treatment as Khatuna, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable, authentic and attentive. I could tell that she really cares about her clients and wanted me to get the most benefit possible out of her services. I am definitely going to continue with this treatment and can't recommend it more. Thank you, Oxy Bella! read more

I went through 5 different electrologists before I purchased Groupon for Oxy Bella Services. In different times I've been "working" on my bikini, armpits and now came turn for my eyebrows. Khatuna is exactly what I've been looking for. Such a delicate work requires a true professional as she is. Pros: -She makes you answer all the required questions before you can make an appointment and to fill up all paperwork before the treatment starts. On my experience not every one does. -Her office is nice and clean. She does everything in her ability to maintain relaxing atmosphere and keep you as comfortable as procedure allows. -VERY thorough. She didn't miss even one hair. - From aesthetic side she was kind enough to ask me about every single "questionable" hair, making sure that she doesn't ruin the desired shape. Cons: -I broke out quite bad after the treatment. I have oily skin on my forehead, however I know what I am suppose to do after treatment and I follow every step. Also I was healing for quite a while every time after my treatments at Oxy Bella. I'm not trying to say that it's electrologist fault. Definitely coming back read more

Khatuna is the BEST. I've been going to electrolysis for 2 years..before I found her, I tried out five different electrolysists, none of whom were as fast, informative, professional or effective as Khatuna. She actually cares about removing your hair, as much or even more than you do. There is basically no comparison: of course you can try to check out other places, but its a waste of time. You will want to come back to Khatuna! read more

Quick, efficient, experienced and most importantly non judgemental. 5 stars for this business. I finally found my spot. Highly recommend.

I've been getting electrolysis/laser/you name it for several years now and have been frustrated that I haven't seen results. I am really really impressed with Oxy Bella. I've had 3 sessions thus far and am already seeing major results. Hair grows back much thinner and takes a while to come in (about 3 weeks in between sessions which is much longer than it used to be.) I will say...the electrolysis is the MOST painful I've ever had (and i've had a lot). Khatuna applies multiple pulses so it's more painful than just one shock. But I really do think it's worth the pain. I'm excited to see the final results! read more

Rude and was literally yelling. Not professional at all in my opinion. Kept mentioning "groupon." Saw no results. Will never go back. Small clustered space. If you don't want to give discounted prices, don't sign up with companies like Groupon. read more

My first electrolysis ever. Khatuna explained everything to me and made me very comfortable. It was a very good experience I will defiantly be back again for all my hair removal needs. Plus the pricing is great you cannot go wrong. read more

I want to start off by saying that Khatuna is AMAZING!! I originally came to Oxy Bella using vouchers and both of my vouchers were honored without any problems. I am generally skeptical of vouchers but Khatuna was such a gem. I have been to other electroligists and she was the most professional and knowledgeable one I have found. She is very experienced and I still continue to go to her long after my vouchers were used. I started to see tremendous results very quickly with her, where as in the past it has taken me months to see progress. She is friendly and very accommodating. I have a busy schedule and she always tries to work with my schedule to make time for me. She is very thorough and her work space is very clean. I have been very happy with Khatuna and have recommended her to my friends. I plan on seeing her again in a few weeks for more treatments! read more

Harmony and Oxy Bella operate out of the same unit, as a shared type space. It is clean and calm. Khatuna is great, offers good suggestions for skin care. I did the oxygen facial, booked through Lifebooker. The service was outstanding and my skin felt soft, smooth, and clean. I've been here twice and have had the same experience, both were positive. No pushing of products at all. I would come back here for additional treatments. read more

Khatuna is awesome. She is SO generous and accommodating. She is also very knowledgeable and trustworthy. Even though the sessions are painful, I enjoy chatting with her and getting good work done. I would recommend going to her and sticking with her for all of your electrolysis needs! read more

I have been a client of Khatuna's for about 4 years. From our first appointment together, I knew that she was an unparalleled aesthetician. She took her time explaining in detail the benefits of the service I'd be having, patiently answering all my questions, and creating a warm and friendly environment. I was also truly impressed by her work ethic. Her quality standards are very high and she does not hesitate to spend extra time to do the job well. I've had permanent hair removal (and will be going back for more electrolysis) and oxygen facials with Khatuna and I keep going back because she truly is the best. I would highly recommend her services to both men and women. The results she achieves are well worth your investment. read more

I found Khatuna through one of those social deals websites. I decided to buy the electrolysis voucher and check her out. (I bought 2 30-min vouchers which she let me combine into a 1 hour session once I got there). I've now been going to her for about 6 months and best of all, seeing excellent results. She operates out of a rented room at a spa (Harmony Spa), so it's not a stand-alone location. Don't let that put you off- it's NYC- y'all know rent is expensive! She does very good work at a comfortable pace. I had been going to a lady who worked really fast, but I was not getting anywhere near the results I am getting with Khatuna. Aside from being professional and working efficiently, she also has a really good personality. I feel very comfortable with her. Def recommend! read more

I have seen Khatuna for seven treatments on my chin, and the experience has been very satisfactory. I've had a great deal of hair reduction so far, and all of my thick hairs have grown finer. She has great bedside manner and always makes me feel welcome and comfortable. I don't feel embarrassed when I'm around her because of her kind and sympathetic demeanor. The treatment she has given me is nothing short of life-changing. Yes, it's a little bit painful, but I know that the results are good. If you have any doubts, go to her for a consultation. read more

Khatuna is absolutely wonderful and skilled at her profession. I am black, probably about the same color as Michelle Obama. Khatuna had me come in for a consult and explained the concerns that darker skin tends to hyper pigment. However I know in most cases hyperpigmentation is temporary. She did have lots of questions about my ethnicity but I think it was to get a better understanding of potential skin issues that can arise. Anyway she did a test area and told me monitor it and if I had no scarring or other problems make an appointment in two weeks. I didn't have any issues, I made my appointment and she had no problem accommodating my time needs. I have some (just a few that bothered me) troublesome hairs that were coarse and dark but she removed them all in about 10 minutes. Her office is clean, she plays soothing music, and she is easy to talk to. I have since been back to her for a second treatment and I will continue to see her for any future needs. read more

I am glad I found Khatuna for my hair removal needs! She is a first-class aesthetician who I would recommend to anyone considering electrolysis, or even laser hair removal. Upon initial consultation, Khatuna informed me thoroughly of the electrolysis method and gave me honest expectations of a treatment routine (electrolysis, which is the only FDA-approved treatment for *permanent* hair removal, is not a one-shot deal--I've done my research too). I've gone to her for 5 sessions now. She is attentive to my ongoing concerns and personal observations with my treatment, which are in some areas of my body I would not be comfortable with just any random person treating. Her demeanor is friendly, relaxing and efficient. Her location is clean, luxe and cozy, and at a very convenient, easily-accessible central Midtown location. She works with my hectic schedule in arranging appointments. Anyone looking for a real professional in the city should book with her! read more
