I am going to share a story with you, bcs we're homies and I feel like I can tell you this, even though it is an embarrassing childhood memory. When I was about 12 or 13, I was standing in line to get a CD signed. Probably Korn or Green Day. Lame. Anyway, I was with a couple friends, and one of them suddenly squinted at my face and then laughed and pointed and said really loudly, "Oh my god, Hannah has a beard!" My beloved waxer at Harmony Spa recommended I look into electrolysis. She rents out her space to Khatuna, owner of Oxy Bella. So let me be clear: These are two totally different businesses operating out of the same space. They don't even share the front desk. Khatuna is AMAZING. This is professionalism and knowledge at a level that you just don't find a lot these days. She did a free consult, where she looked at my chin and discussed my heritage, my hair growth patterns, and my current strategy for hair removal. Plucking, ladies? It's a BAD THING. Apparently it can stimulate the follicles and cause even more growth. Khatuna begged me to tell everyone I know that if you're plucking, you should stop. And that was the thing I liked most about her. She was super honest, and very interested in teaching, not just treating. After our sessions, she sat with me and we talked about my progress and what I could expect. The electrolysis itself? Well it didn't tickle, that's for sure. It kind of feels like a bee sting. The needle going in isn't that bad, but then it feels like it gets super hot for a split second, so it's like a little pinchy-burny sensation. She works on a timer, usually 15 minute sessions. And trust me, 15 minutes is about all I could handle. Price came to about $75. Cash or check only!!! I've done two sessions so far. After the first, I had a tiny bruise on my chin--the result of my paleness and anemia, probably. It faded after a couple days. Both times I had mega redness, but that faded within an hour or less. Best of all, my skin was so smooth and even and lovely! After a while, the hairs that weren't killed the first time came in, and I just had them taken care of. I did not touch my tweezers between treatments! I may need a couple more sessions, but then I should have a permanently hairless chin!!! I feel so much better about myself and I'm really glad I found Khatuna. I'm already thinking about going to her for more sessions (permanently hairless bikini, anyone?) I can't speak to Khatuna's electrolysis ability because I only went to her about 5 times. Her personality made me uncomfortable and I couldn't continue the sessions. 1. She kept having this convo with me over and over again: "What is your ethnicity?" "Spanish." *disappointed* "oh, you don't look Spanish." "I mean, European Spanish." "Ooooh, the good kind!" *my obvious discomfort* "You know it's true." Gotta love some good old fashioned racism. 2. She would literally get mad at me and sort of yell at me whenever I was in pain during the sessions. So here's the deal. Having hair in weird places as a female basically ruins your self esteem. You feel unattractive and insecure every time you look in the mirror. I felt this way for a long time in my mid 20s as all the hormones did their crazy thing. Then I met Khatuna. I swear to god she has changed my life and the way I feel about myself. I have only seen Khatuna once out of my 3 groupon package. She was absolutely great in explaining everything + the importance of aftercare (aloe & SPF). I was hesitant about buying 30 min sessions, since I don't really think it would make a dent in my lush hair growths BUT Khatuna cleaned me up quite nicely in that time. This review is long overdue and so is my gratitude for Khatuna's work! She picked up the slack of the two previous electrolysis pro I used to go to and gave me back some hope! I saw results within 3 sessions (facial sessions). Hair grew back thinner and thinner and then not at all! I am biracial (black and white) and despite what I have read before I gave her a chance (also used to work in the same building, so made it easy) and never looked back! BEWARE!!!!!!! 1. If you are African American or a person with a non-white skin tone, then don't even think about going here. She will not give you any service. 2. If you want to go to someone who's trustworthy/professional, then again, don't think about going here, because she will lie about what service she does. I've never written a Yelp review, but I want others to be aware of this business.... I've had electrolysis done multiple times before with no issue. My favorite electrologist had moved away so I'm in search for a new one. She used the blend method, which I've found to be the most successful method. I decided to check out coupons on Groupon and found this business. About 1 month ago I had asked her what method does she do, and she told me the BLEND method. Nice! But I couldn't go to her that month for personal reasons. One month later, I had finally purchased the Groupon and contacted her asking for an appointment. She responds, "Please let me know what is your skin color, if you are healthy or taking any medication." I tell her that I am black, I am healthy, and I am not taking any medication. She replies back, "We do thermolysis method of electrolysis and unfortunately it's not good for skin type 6, which is black. You may scar or pigment from the heat, which is delivered in hair folicule." Huh? I'm not even skin type 6. So then I tell her that I've asked her a month ago what method did she use and she told me the blend method, and asked if her method had changed. And I also told her that I've gotten thermolysis done before but I didn't scar, though all of the hairs came back. It has been a day and I haven't gotten a response from her (I had sent the email mid afternoon too, and she was originally replying back promptly). Also a side note -- I've done a lot of research on electrolysis. You do NOT scar from thermolysis - yes you may get a few scabs but they go away. Khatuna is good at electrolysis, but don't trust her with vouchers. She does not respect the terms of those offers, and the room where she operates is the size of a closet, whose only access to fresh air is the door, which of course is always shut, so you can imagine the air quality in there and the heat that can develop. I've had much better. Last but not least, in my opinion tips are for people who are employees, not for independent professionals who can set their own fees. In my past experiences independent professionals do not accept tips even when they are insistently offered. It has happened to me with tour guides and massage therapists. Went in with a Groupon deal for chin extension electrolysis appointment. I have to say the place is clean, pleasant and the service is wonderful. Khatuna explained everything clearly, patiently and thoroughly. Plus she is sweet and genuinely seems to want to get to know you. She has a good bedside manner and is honest. I've had laser before (6 sessions with Deify) and my hair came back thicker because of it. Laser hurts a lot, but surprisingly electrolysis was not even as bad as a pinch in comparison. I need more treatments and I wish I had come here before trying laser hair removal. I loved her demeanor and expertise. I look forward to coming back and getting rid of my chin hair forever. Amazing results! I had been thinking about electrolysis for several years and made many mistakes before I found Khatuna. She's an excellent electrologist that cares about her clients as whole body patients. I've always felt insecure about my facial and body hair to the point of being embarrassed even to show a professional. About a year ago I was working at a spa and an Esthetician offered to give me laser for free. I thought "wow to never have to wax or thread my face again - amazing!!". It was a huge mistake. After several treatments the peach fuzz I had been concerned about turned into inch long dark whiskers. I was terrified. That's when I stumbled upon OxyBella and I really love the whole place. Khatuna even gave me ideas of natural products to heal rather than just Neosporin which causes me to breakout. Electrolysis isn't painless but because of the rapport we've developed I look forward to going to each visit. This is an amazing treatment!!! I'm on my 3rd treatment of the particle free dermabrasion and I already can see a big difference in my skin, especially for my sun spots which have become much more noticeable in my early 30's. I went through 5 different electrologists before I purchased Groupon for Oxy Bella Services. In different times I've been "working" on my bikini, armpits and now came turn for my eyebrows. Khatuna is exactly what I've been looking for. Such a delicate work requires a true professional as she is. Pros: -She makes you answer all the required questions before you can make an appointment and to fill up all paperwork before the treatment starts. On my experience not every one does. -Her office is nice and clean. She does everything in her ability to maintain relaxing atmosphere and keep you as comfortable as procedure allows. -VERY thorough. She didn't miss even one hair. - From aesthetic side she was kind enough to ask me about every single "questionable" hair, making sure that she doesn't ruin the desired shape. Cons: -I broke out quite bad after the treatment. I have oily skin on my forehead, however I know what I am suppose to do after treatment and I follow every step. I've been getting electrolysis/laser/you name it for several years now and have been frustrated that I haven't seen results. I am really really impressed with Oxy Bella. I've had 3 sessions thus far and am already seeing major results. Hair grows back much thinner and takes a while to come in (about 3 weeks in between sessions which is much longer than it used to be.) I will say...the electrolysis is the MOST painful I've ever had (and i've had a lot). Khatuna applies multiple pulses so it's more painful than just one shock. (I bought 2 30-min vouchers which she let me combine into a 1 hour session once I got there). I've now been going to her for about 6 months and best of all, seeing excellent results. Khatuna is absolutely wonderful and skilled at her profession. I am black, probably about the same color as Michelle Obama. Khatuna had me come in for a consult and explained the concerns that darker skin tends to hyper pigment. However I know in most cases hyperpigmentation is temporary. She did have lots of questions about my ethnicity but I think it was to get a better understanding of potential skin issues that can arise. Anyway she did a test area and told me monitor it and if I had no scarring or other problems make an appointment in two weeks. I didn't have any issues, I made my appointment and she had no problem accommodating my time needs. I have some (just a few that bothered me) troublesome hairs that were coarse and dark but she removed them all in about 10 minutes.
