Wanna just chill? Go for a walk and sit down and enjoy the afternoon " on a farm"? Actually a really good place to take your little folk or a date or just sit by yourself and enjoy the country feels, right in the middle of Oxon Hill. They have tables wherever you can sit and enjoy a coffee or snack. If you like chickens they got them too. Roaming around and enjoying their freedom. Goats, horses, pigs and cows were on the grounds as well. Cool place to visit. Educational relaxing and a refreshing change from the usual. Stop by. The staff are friendly and the peace and quiet atmosphere will do wonders for your mental health

This is a diamond in the rough. I remember coming here as a kid. Now I am fortunate enough to be able to bring my own kids here. This farm is under the National Park Service and allows people from the city to experience a rare farm in the metro area. The farm was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Ranger Craig and the other ranger were very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The park has a picnic area, restroom facility, the large white house on the hill known as the Mount Welby home, a barn, a feed house and a huge private parking lot. Some animals that you will experience are free roaming chickens, horses, cows, goats, and pigs. We came on a Saturday when they had all of their experiences running. First, the littles were able to learn about then chickens and then feed them. Then we took the farm tour, where the littles learned about the other animals and were given the opportunity to feed the horses, goats and pigs. We we also able to go into the main house during the tour and see the few exhibits in there and learn a bit about the farm and the Mount Welby home. The farm use to have a cow milking program, but they do not have a nursing cow, so that stopped. They are looking at either buying a pregnant cow or breeding a cow to continue the program, but there are no immediate plans to do so. One of the rangers pulled out some eggs from the chicken coop and showed them to my littles. A common question is can you keep the eggs. The answer is always no. The farm is not allowed to sell any of their animal products because that requires a special license, which they do not have. The farm is packed with history from being a plantation home during the War of 1812, to a hospital farm for Saint Elizabeth's Psychiatric Hospital. I enjoyed learning the farm's history and glad that this place is still around, especially in a time when farms are dying off. This is a free attraction that can easily take a couple hours out of your day and provide you and your little ones memories that will last a lifetime, all while learning a bit of history. I highly recommend checking this place out. Just be sure to check out their activity/event schedule, including feedings, before you go, so that you can maximize your trip.

We were here on a warm November afternoon. You can still see some animals out. Great place to bring your kids.

This is a strange location, just outside the DC border but inside the Beltway. The main attraction here is a farm which is run as a park, allowing kids (and adults) to see some animals up close. Beyond the educational part, a paved trail leads down to a little inlet off the Potomac, which is nothing particularly impressive but a decent place to get some activity in. One can walk into the surrounding neighborhoods, but unless I'm missing something, there is no connection whatsoever to the bridge which allows pedestrians to join the Beltway in crossing the Potomac, nor any way to go towards National Harbor. This significantly limits the value of this park, but it is still a nice place to visit.

This is a nice historical farm in PG county that had recently reopened after an extended COVID closure. You now have access to see the animals but any buildings are still closed. There's gravel parking and then you make your way towards the farm. They have sheep, goats, pigs, cows, horses, roaming chickens. We got to see the animals being fed so that was added fun. I don't believe any programs are currently running-maybe in summer? We spent about an hour and it was more because my son was enthralled with all the rocks he could throw and not the actual activities at the farm. BUT it's a short drive from several playgrounds, including Jones Point Park, so this is definitely a good stop prior to that on a sunny day!

This isn't the most expansive farm open to visitors, but it's free to visit. That's because it's owned and operated by the National Park Service. Rangers run the farm! I came last week on a field trip with a large group of third graders. Many of these students have never been to a farm before. They got to milk a cow. Me too! (A first for everything.) They saw chickens, horses, cows, pigs, and a mule. Perhaps their most favorite part was the wagon ride. We saw Virginia across the water! It wasn't much, but they were excited, and relatively well behaved. Plus hey, who doesn't like a day away from school?!

The Farm is tucked away off of I-395. I took my toddler daughter there on a sunny and hot afternoon and we must of missed all of the activities because there was hardly anything to do besides look at the Farm animals, which included the cows, the chickens, the pigs and the horses, who were all hiding out of the sun. It's a cute little farm to enjoy with the fam, when I imagine, there are activities to do with the animals and children. Maybe next time, we'll go earlier in the morning or check the website for activities first. Overall, my toddler daughter enjoyed herself and that's all that matters.

I actually saw this place on Google Maps while looking for something else. Since it was on the way I decided to stop by with the fam. We stopped in the Visitor Center and the ranger was very helpful. We spent an hour exploring - most of that time with the the horses and goats :) We also spotted a turkey and some chickens. There's a farm house on the property with a lot of historical stuff about the property inside so be sure to check that out. Best of all, it was free. I would definitely go back if I'm in the area.

    Checking out books in store.

Check the schedule for events. We had lots of fun milking Minnie the cow and seeing the other farm animals. Ranger Mitchell was terrific. My son loved her. It wasn't too busy and not too much to see, but it is great to take a toddler and so is close to the city. They also have some fun play activities in the main center. Only suggestion is not to use address in GPS. TURN on Bald Eagle Rd. We made mistake of listening to GPS and landed up doing a lot of loops to get there. Need to figure out how WAYZ can update their driving direction.

The park has a picnic shelter with picnic tables under it and a grill just outside of it. It has two picnic tables. One of the tables is rectangular and the other is a square table with a checkerboard on it. There is also a couple of picnic tables and a grill in a grassy area in the center of the park's circle. You will also find a nice full basketball court at the park and a nice paved trail passes through it. It is a really nice trail and very peaceful. The highlight of the park though, is its playground. The playground has a rubber mud free floor, which is in great shape. There are benches around the playground's perimeter where parents can sit and watch their little ones. The playground's equipment includes a small jungle gym with slides, a large net climbing structure with a slide. There is also a bank of swings with a toddler swing, An ADA compliant swing, and some traditional swings. This is a very nice park. I didn't know if I would make a special trip to visit, but it is still very nice. I ended up here because I had picked up some food from a carryout joint and needed a place to eat it. The park's picnic shelter was the perfect spot. So, if you are in the area, and looking for a park to visit. I recommend checking this place out.

There is lots of space to park, very clean, and beautiful to look at. My nieces loved the blue color. There's a jungle gym, slides, swings for big kids and toddlers. The size is on the smaller side so it might get boring after an hour. My rec is 30-60 minutes stay. Also it's in a neighborhood which is a bit inconvenient when driving through. Stop by if you're already in the area but I wouldn't make a special trip again.

I saw 2 15-inch Rodman Cannons, a house water trof and some collapsed cement structures. At the front of the park is a huge patch of green space with picnic tables under shade trees and a restroom structure. The Fort dates back to 1863, was constructed to defend the water approach to Washington DC and operated to 1878. It spans about 70 acres and sits 100 feet above the Potomac River. Along the backside of the trail (along the river) you can see Alexandria, The George Washington Masonic National Memorial, Mount Vernon and other monuments. The Park also has a small beach area to explore as well. I liked the placard, to the left as you enter the trails with the picture that has the superimposed image of what the Fort's gate looked like. I gave me a real idea of where the Fort was and you can really see where the gate would have been. To the left is also where you will find the 2 cannons. If you go to the right you will eventually hit the beach, The park is located off the water and has some nice, be it short nature trails. There are also some open green space. There was a guy in one of the fields letting his unleashed dogs running wild. Outside of the few remnants of the Fort, and some information placards, this is a decent and somewhat fairly maintained nature park. It is far off of the road and is very peaceful. I would recommend wearing long pants and a long sleeved shirt because some areas has some thick brush. Bug spray would not be a bad idea either. I like this park. You can just feel the history. I wish there was more of the Fort that was preserved, but oh well, the placards placed around the park do a decent job explaining where you are located in reference to the Fort. This place is definitely worth a visit. Being a nature park, it is not very accesible and would be very challenging for someone with mobility issues. I enjoyed my time at the park in addition to getting a little peace, I learned a bit as well.

I can't speak for the whole park as I have only really seen one area of the park on each visit. Picnic area B and I are very familiar, and I have come to like this part of the park. Maybe one day I will make it back out here and explore more, but this review at this time is for what I have experienced thus far. Picnic area B is a set of areas sandwiched between Battery Meigs and Battery Humphreys. A great area to have a big gathering as both ends have bathroom facilities for use and those can be very useful. The one thing that you do not realize is how close you are to the water. No matter where you are in this park you are a very short walk to the water. Picnic area B is fairly close to both the Potomac River and Piscataway Creek. There are also trails that will connect areas and take you along the waterways. Specifically for Area B, there is ample parking for any amount of people you may invite to an event. It is shaded, but not as shaded as you would think. Throughout the day, if you want to be in the shade you will either have to move or bring a way to keep the sun away. If you do plan an event here, be sure to clean up after yourself. Do not leave anything behind as this is a park that is patrolled and it is your duty to pick up after yourself.
