Our fireplace would not turn on after 20 years of running it. I called Owens, and to my surprise it was going to take 3 months to get an appointment! It was worth the wait! Forrest was sent to us! I thought I was going to have to get a new fireplace. Forrest opened it up, took it apart, cleaned it all, told me the thermocoupler had built up carbon. He had it fixed in an hour. He was so kind. He was so educational. He sent detailed pictures to us of everything he did. He advised that in the future we might have to get a new part. Just to give him a call. Honestly one of the nicest technicians that has ever been in my home for anything. He made it so easy. I was sent a text by Owens that Forrest was coming and they even sent me a picture of him to know who he was before he entered my home. I've never had anybody send a picture before.  That was pretty cool. I highly recommend this company. I realize that there's some honest people left in the world, and it warms my heart. Had Owens Chimney come out to provide an estimate for a chimney cap while my wife was home by herself. The gentleman gave her 2 options/prices and she told him we'd discuss it and call them back the next day. The gentleman then left in his truck and my wife had to join a conference call for work. While she was on the conference call, the Owens Chimney employee returned, went directly back into our roof without speaking a single word, and installed the more expensive of the two chimney caps WITHOUT ANY SIGNED PAPERWORK OR CONSENT, and then left the house without speaking a word to my wife. Owens had the gall to send us an invoice for this unauthorized repair and is harassing us for payment for a service we never agreed to -- COMPLETELY UNETHICAL!!!! We reached out to Owen's when we first purchased our home. It took us darn near two months to get an appointment, but we waited patiently assuming they must be pretty good and in demand all based on some of the reviews here. When a technician finally came to service our fireplace and discuss the possibility of an upgraded replacement. I was unimpressed. He seemed intent on servicing the fireplace so he could collect his fee and would not discuss the notion of a replacement until he completely finished the fireplace service. At that point he brings up a website with fireplace replacement choices for me to look at. Perhaps it would have been better to show me the website so I could study it while he performed the service? Unimpressed is the best description I can come up with. Seemingly competent in the service provided, but certainly not worth the wait. read more

Because their services are in such high demand, we had to wait a couple months to get them to come by. But wow, it was well worth the wait! We could not be happier with the outcome and results from Matt's visit. He was very professional and extremely thorough cleaning the gas fireplaces, the glass, cleaned out all dust, adjusted per gas fireplace specifications, tested for any gas leaks, and rearranged logs and embers as needed. Be weary of contacting Owens chimney. We had them come out to clean our chimney and they basically told us that the inside of it had vertical cracks in it and that if we keep using it, it might set our house on fire! They also gave us a few hefty quotes to "fix" the issue (install new piping and extend the chimney or create a gas log fireplace). We got a second opinion and the second company found NOTHING wrong with our chimney and said that it hadn't even been cleaned. Apparently, according to the owner of the second company, Owens has a history of lying to their customers, showing pictures and videos that are not even from the chimney being inspected, and trying to trick customers into thinking their chimneys are in disrepair. read more

I called to get someone out to look at my gas logs as they would not turn on with the remote. The pilot was on and I was getting a red light on the remote. They suggested I may need batteries in the receiver which I never thought of. It worked and saved me money and them time! If I ever need repairs, they have a new customer. read more

They called the day prior to my appointment to confirm time, then on the day of the appointment the service tech called to say he was ahead of schedule. Unfortunately I have to leave a 1 star review after only getting an inspection. Techs showed up on time and we're professional, but that's where it stopped. I requested two specific quotes for wood insert and vent free log insert, was told I'd have it in 2 days. After 1 week I followed up with phone call, informed I was at the top of the list and have it right away. Another week later I called back, was told the owner would call to discuss...after no phone call I got a quote via email that wasn't for either of the options I requested. This company is great and trustworthy. The two employees that came to my house were courteous and knowledgeable. They arrived within the first 10 minutes of the hour window I was given. They fully answered all of my questions and seemed to know exactly what they were talking about. David, the employee who did the work inside my house, was friendly, funny, good with my 2 year old son, and quick with his work. When I had an issue later that day I called in and was put in touch with the owner. He spoke with David, and arranged a time for David to come out the next day. They arrived, profusely apologized for the issue (which turned out to be a defect in the damper they had installed - not something they had done incorrectly), and made it right. I really feel like they went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. Even though David was not the owner, I felt like he apologized and took the blame better than any owner I've ever spoken to. I doubt you'll experience any issues with this company, but I can say that when I did, they did everything they could to make it right. UPDATE: After the experience described below, the owner James Owens contacted me personally prior to the arrival of his technician to discuss the events. Being in business myself, I understand that no matter how hard you try, no business can ever be 100% perfect in their customer service. Sometimes things just happen. What really matters is how each business deals with situations in which they have not satisfied their own standards for customer service. And I must say that the way in which Mr. Owens handled my situation was as satisfactory as he could have possibly been. When the technician arrived, at 1:59 for a 2:00 appointment, he was as detailed and thorough as I could imagine a chimney service could be. He spend 1 1/2 hours cleaning, photographing,and inspecting the chimney. He invited me to get on the roof with him so that he could point out some potential problems with the now 60+ year old brickwork around the chimney flue. In all, the service was top-notch. And Mr. Owens provided these services to me complimentary to atone for my first experience with his company. He then called me after the service call to verify my satisfaction with the experience. I am impressed enough with the final results of the situation that I plan to have them come back later to perform some preventative maintenance to my brickwork. ORIGINAL POST: Well, I will have to say that my first experience was not as positive as most of the reviewers on here. I am getting a new homeowners policy which will require an annual inspection and cleaning of the chimney as a condition of the policy. So I scheduled an inspection for yesterday, with a promise of a 2-4pm arrival and a notification call at least 30 minutes prior to arrival. My wife was scheduled to work yesterday , but we have a deadline to get this completed so she decided to take time off of work yesterday to meet them. And I am sure that everyone on here now knows where this is going. When it got to be 3:30 and we had no communication, I called the office myself. After being on hold for several minutes while the person answering the phone researched the situation, she came back to me with this story: The employee that was scheduled to do my work was held up at an earlier job, and was not going to make it to my house. They were not only going to fail be there by the promised 4pm, but they weren't even going to make it that day at all. So my wife, a massage therapist, gave up about $300 of income to sit there waiting for Owens to show, and no one at the company even bothered to let us know that they were not going to keep their scheduled appointment. I had to call them myself to find this out. I do have a reschedule for tomorrow, and to be truthful, I have reservations about them doing the work at all at this point. But as stated, I have a deadline with the insurance company, and I don't know if I can get someone else in here in time. So I guess I will have Owens do the inspection that will now effectively cost me $465. The really sad thing for Owens is that they could have had my business every year, since this inspection is required for insurance annually. Oh well, time to find someone else for next year. read more

Ordered chimney chase towards end of August 2017 with a request for purchase and installation. On or around 10/25/17 my wife called Owen's and it took them an extended period of time to locate us in their database even though I had the same experience at the initial contact and covered all demographic information in depth. We have yet to have our 10/25/17 follow-up call returned with the status of our order. That is 16 days ago! Seriously considering canceling order. My fear is that if anything goes wrong after installation it would take months for them to respond. If you are aware of a reliable alternative, please pass it on. read more

Craig came this morning to do a chimney sweep (did a thorough, excellent job and left behind NO MESS), and noticed that we needed more maintenance on our chimney. He was kind enough to call David with Owens, and David was able to work our home in to his day's schedule. Really appreciated that I didn't have to take a second day off! Craig and David both arrived cheerful, polite and went right to work. Both took photographs of things I could not see from the roof, and explained everything / answered all my questions thoroughly. They are so knowledgeable, so polite and so hard-working. Years ago, when we moved into this house, we had Owens come to look at the fireplace. They said it would need extensive work. We said we'd prefer a wood stove and they were extremely helpful in providing the information we needed to decide on the right purchase. They installed it, and it has worked excellently all these years. We are getting a new roof, and the company we chose, Charlotte Pro Roofing actually took photos of the chimney during his roof inspection and brought them back down to show us. Mr Vasilevich showed details of how Owens installed the wood stove chimney properly and explained that so many companies can "look" like they've done it correctly, but have taken a short-cut to save them time and money --- and it means the chimney cracks and has to be replaced in a year. UPDATE: I called Owens and spoke with someone there and he gave me a full refund for this morning and would speak with the technician that they sent this morning. Due to the helpful customer service over the phone I am adding two stars back to the review of the original one star. ORIGINAL REVIEW: My husband and I recently moved into a new house and the fireplace was not working. My husband tinkered around with it ultimately figuring out that the gas was just coming out too fast and knew that he had to call a professional to fix it. Owens came up first on google search so we called them. He explained the problem and they seemed to understand on the phone. We scheduled an appointment. When the service guy showed up at the house he looked like he was 18. I have never had a repair person work on my house with less confidence. He kept taking pictures on his phone and walking outside to talk to someone because he clearly had ZERO clue what the heck he was doing. He spent over TWO hours at our house before he said that we needed to call someone at the gas company and replace our entire log system. Then he said we owed 165$ for the cleaning of the log system that we were going to have to replace (idiotic) and for all the trouble shooting work he did to figure out what was going on. We paid him to get him out of our house. We then called another fire place repair company and they sent someone over the same day. Within 5 minutes the guy said the regulator was never attached and it was sitting right next to the gas line downstairs. He then fixed the problem and got the fireplace working within 30 minutes. read more
