This was my first visit to "The Carthage Country Club" unfortunately it was only for a business…read moreluncheon and not a round of golf at this seasoned golf course that was built in 1965. If you've been to any of these smaller golf courses which are typically operated out of some aging building that could hardly be called a club house with a small pro shop to sign in and purchase a few of the bare necessities that you forget to buy at the local sporting goods store or in this case maybe it's a Walmart you're in for a big surprise as you approach the clubhouse from the highway. This newer modern club house that replaced what I would assume to be the original accommodations that burnt down in the recent past is nothing short of a dream come true for the new owners. Although I didn't take the full tour I was impressed with the parking lot, front entrance and restaurant. I must tell those of you who aren't very observant check out the legs on the dining room tables, the legs are actual rifles, my first thought after seeing this was "how fitting", this rural course I'm sure has an abundance of wildlife that is native to the area and during my few trips through the area camouflage seems to be the most popular dress in these parts. The restaurant features a simple menu for lunch consisting of hamburgers, salads and sandwiches. Steak and seafood are available Friday and Saturday evenings and after sampling a few of their homemade offerings for lunch I am sure it's definitely a wait on the weekend for dinner. The service was equal to the food quality which I found to be refreshingly simply but full of favor using quality ingredients. You definitely need to try this place out, the food preparation yelps passion and is priced very reasonable. I hope to return soon.

We came in the early 2000's when it first opened and it was very nice. On the website it has a video of the New Club House, well it's not there. They still have the temporary club house they had when they opened in 2001. Don't believe any of the pictures or YouTube videos about the course. The course is in OK shape but nowhere near a $100.00 course. We paid $95 for the senior rate and then were told if we wanted to go right back out and play another 18, it would be half of the regular rate!!! The course has mostly dirt cart paths and it is no longer manicured like we remembered. The worst part about the whole experience was what they call the "condominiums". Not even close. More like 1970's apartments. Furniture was some ridiculous futon type seating. Beds were horrible and the mattresses were sunk in the middle. No stove, no Full Size Refrigerator (small mini fridge), No pots, no pans, no plates, no glasses or utensils. Bathroom toilets were horrible. Toilet seats were peeling and they were the old oval shape seats and very low to the ground. It is very obvious that there has been ZERO upgrades and even good upkeep to this property since they opened in 2001. One good example; the front door knob put a hole in the wall and just patched the hole and left it with the white patch and didn't even texture it or paint it, just left it like that. The outside grills were not cleaned and they left some prongs and spatulas out on the grills dirty from whoever used it last. I know you may be tempted because of the website or some OLD reviews but DON'T DO IT!!!

We just did our annual guys's golf trip. Four of us. Just some notes on our experience. The…read moreaccommodations are about what you would expect with the exception that the keys didn't really work and we had to do some interesting things to get to our rooms. It was very disappointing that the bar/restaurant does not open until 11 AM. It would have been nice to have some sort of a quick breakfast before you tee off early in the morning. We found out after we booked the stay and play that the members have priority for early teetimes. Tuesday is the owners play so you have to wait for them. And the women's group gets out in front. Not to mention, we got bumped back on our tee time because a group just walked up and teed off in front of us. Then the starter shoved a twosome in front of us. We were supposed to play 36 holes that day and we only played 27. But we found out later in the day talking to some other stay and play groups, they had teetimes at 7:30 and 8 AM. Otherwise the course is pretty fun. Great shape. There's some offsite restaurants and sports bars that are not far they were fun. Probably won't go back. But just beware.
